The reason that South EHS field is so torn up is that it just holds
several inches of standing water pretty much all winter. If you think
Roosevelt was swampy, you ain't seen nothing yet. Tugman is also high
on the swamp list, but anything is better than SEHS.
Personally, my feeling is that if we drop pickup to just saturdays for
the time being the fields will be just fine. If people are really
concerned we could also try finding out about southbank, or the soccer
fields by the footbridge to the mall down near chambers. Or we could
have a current student (like Josh) find out if there are any open
slots on the turf or the grass at Hayward.
The UO has also practiced at Cal Young during the winter in the past
and never heard any complaints - and practices tear up the fields a
lot more than pickup. While out of the way for us from the southside,
those fields aren't too bad.
So there are a lot of options if people feel like we need to make the
move.
