Dec. 5th (Sat.) Stain-glass making with Gloria & Doug with walk and soup.
Dec. 12th (Sat.) Irvine Park Stroll then to Renee's for food and camaraderie.

If anyone is looking for a place to ride their Mountain Bike without worry from
hunting, come on over to Menomin Park.
We have 170 acres, entirely within city limits. We have approximately 2 miles
of singletrack and over 4 miles of multi-use grassed paths.
The park has woodlands and prairie restorations. There are two ponds and Lake
Menomin.
No park fee. No trail fee.
Take I-94 west to Exit 45. Go south to the light. Turn west. At the
T-intersection turn South again. Go 1/2 mile. Turn west. Go 1/2 mile to the
park driveway.
There are three clusters of singletrack trails, South, Central, and North.
Difficulty increases as you go North.
Enjoy the trails.

Six brave souls did show up and bike on Saturday. Since everyone else biked to the VFW and I was the only person driving there (from Chippewa though), I clocked 26.6 miles. Thanks to Libby, Eleanor, Linda S-S, Bill and John for showing up and enjoying the ride. Personally, since I had on ski clothes, I wasn't cold, but others said they found the south wind chilly. It got to 48 while we were by Lake Altoona, but otherwise it was 46. We biked north awhile, then east to Brunel and St. Bridget, south on 110th to Q, then the lovely QQ back. There were orange clad hunters out, so Bill decided not to bike down to Big Falls to "check it out".... Sunday and today it was much warmer...so I am hoping others got to get out and bike one "last time". Looks like winter arrives on Wed.
After seeing the air quality alert for today, noon sounds like a good idea. I thought that afternoon 'fog' was unusual yesterday...yuch. Made for a great sunset at old Porterville tho'. If your on the trail just after 4 pm its a great place to watch as it sets just over the downstream river view.

Let's meet at noon at VFW parking lot on Starr Ave. We can make a circle close to the city to avoid any big guns out there and if anyone has blaze orange...wear that too. Should be 53 tomorrow....and probably the very last day of biking this year!

Ho ho ho Everyone....Diane Harp and I are again hosting the annual Holiday Walk and [no car] light show in Irvine Park on Saturday night, December 12 this year. We will walk late afternoon/early evening, enjoy the holiday lights in the park and then get together for food and merriment! Look for details in your inbox early in December. Mark your calendars!

Just a reminder to anyone planning to ride tomorrow. It's opening day, so you
might want to keep that in mind when a setting a route. Also, and perhaps more
importantly--wear bright-colored clothes. (A patch of blaze orange on your
person or your bike will help make you easier to see.)
Enjoy & stay safe
I am interested, but late morning or early afternoon would be preferable. The low is supposed to be around 32, so would like to wait until it warms up a little??

The walk is in the evening, 5:30pm. I would never make any of the walks if it was 5:30 am. Hope you can join the group.

I apologize for being tardy with this report.....but my computer has been off-line with technical problems for a few days.
WOW....we had a beautiful day - 66 degrees, a scenic trail, 35+ terrific hikers & 3 dogs! It was great to have many first timers. 26 people arrived for breakfast in Cornell....Turk' s offers good food and generous portions. Remember them too when biking in the area next year. Steve said we had the largest group of people since he has been hosting this event. He asks that I include a big THANK YOU to all who participated.
Anyone interested in hiking the trail who couldn't go on the 7th...either get on one mile east of cty E on 245th. There is a small arrow on the left side of the road and then the trail is marked. Or head west from the parking lot on CC (on the right as you head north). Enjoy Firth Lake!

I have a pair of REI convertible hiking pants for sale. Women's size 2 (runs large), olive green color, UPF 30+. Hardly worn, excellent condition. I paid $60 for them, but will sell them for $30. Call 833-1941 if you are interested in taking a look at them.

November 13, 2009* News from the Uncredentialed, Uninhibited & Unpaid
Bob Hume addressed the (Altoona) City Council this evening and pointed out that the bike trail leading to the Eau Claire river has potential as a Canoe Launch. The trail could be modified slightly to allow vehicles access to the river with a parking area under the Highway 53 bridge. This spot begs to be a Canoe Landing. Bob, this idea is going to have to be nurtured (the squeaking wheel gets the grease). If you will champion it, as sure as the sun rises over LakeAltoona, I will help you. =============== ===============
Thanks. I lived near Houston for over 10 years before coming to Eau Claire. I will keep on riding. As for the slogan, "Don't mess with Texas", they like to leave it for interpretation. :D
James,
Thank you for the encouragement during the ride to Nelson and back. Don't think there are anything close to those hills in the area I will be at. But I will try to continue getting better for climbing. It's most rewarding.

Pak, So glad you began your Pie Rider outings at the Summer Solstice last June.....and continued to hang out. Are you from TX? Been there before? I was there a year ago when my youngest son got his wings in Corpus ....and also visited a family friend in Austin. It's a different place.....when I stopped at the first visitor center north of Dallas, they handed me a bumper sticker "Don't Mess with TX" - ya think it's about litter????. Hope this is a good move for you leading to much success. Keep on biking! Renee
Good luck to you, Pak. It was good meeting you - have fun riding in Texas!
