I am interested, but late morning or early afternoon would be preferable. The low is supposed to be around 32, so would like to wait until it warms up a little??

The walk is in the evening, 5:30pm. I would never make any of the walks if it was 5:30 am. Hope you can join the group.

I apologize for being tardy with this report.....but my computer has been off-line with technical problems for a few days.
WOW....we had a beautiful day - 66 degrees, a scenic trail, 35+ terrific hikers & 3 dogs! It was great to have many first timers. 26 people arrived for breakfast in Cornell....Turk' s offers good food and generous portions. Remember them too when biking in the area next year. Steve said we had the largest group of people since he has been hosting this event. He asks that I include a big THANK YOU to all who participated.
Anyone interested in hiking the trail who couldn't go on the 7th...either get on one mile east of cty E on 245th. There is a small arrow on the left side of the road and then the trail is marked. Or head west from the parking lot on CC (on the right as you head north). Enjoy Firth Lake!

I have a pair of REI convertible hiking pants for sale. Women's size 2 (runs large), olive green color, UPF 30+. Hardly worn, excellent condition. I paid $60 for them, but will sell them for $30. Call 833-1941 if you are interested in taking a look at them.

Bob Hume addressed the (Altoona) City Council this evening and pointed out that the bike trail leading to the Eau Claire river has potential as a Canoe Launch. The trail could be modified slightly to allow vehicles access to the river with a parking area under the Highway 53 bridge. This spot begs to be a Canoe Landing. Bob, this idea is going to have to be nurtured (the squeaking wheel gets the grease). If you will champion it, as sure as the sun rises over LakeAltoona, I will help you. =============== ===============
Thanks. I lived near Houston for over 10 years before coming to Eau Claire. I will keep on riding. As for the slogan, "Don't mess with Texas", they like to leave it for interpretation. :D
James,
Thank you for the encouragement during the ride to Nelson and back. Don't think there are anything close to those hills in the area I will be at. But I will try to continue getting better for climbing. It's most rewarding.

Pak, So glad you began your Pie Rider outings at the Summer Solstice last June.....and continued to hang out. Are you from TX? Been there before? I was there a year ago when my youngest son got his wings in Corpus ....and also visited a family friend in Austin. It's a different place.....when I stopped at the first visitor center north of Dallas, they handed me a bumper sticker "Don't Mess with TX" - ya think it's about litter????. Hope this is a good move for you leading to much success. Keep on biking! Renee
Good luck to you, Pak. It was good meeting you - have fun riding in Texas!

Do they have pie in Texas? Probably called the BBQ Riders, instead.

Nice pics, Mark. Looks like princess pine--its own thing, not a baby tree. Great day to be out; I did an Ice Age hike and work outing with Superior Lobers.

Hi All, I posted some pictures (my first time) of the "09 Ice Age Hike." I left it open so that anyone can edit the pics. If you want to change the titles and add your name or correct the information, feel free to do so. The one pic of what I thought was a small pine tree is suppose to be a type of moss, according to my son. Someone else told me it was a baby pine tree. If anyone knows what it is, please let me know or go ahead and change it. Thanks, Mark Lorentz

Have a good trip to Texas Pak and remember Wisconsin!!! Very much enjoyed biking with you! Also, make sure Governor Perry does not pull Texas out of the Union!
Due to the weather and other reasons, I wasn't able to show up at the Pie Riders activities the past couple weeks. I would like to say goodbye to all of you in person but time doesn't allow me to do that this time. I have accepted a job offer in Dallas area (Plano, TX). I will be heading back to Texas later this week.
Joining the Pie Riders was the greatest thing happened to me in the past few months. I made many good friends and learned a lot from all of you. I will always be proud of being a Pie Rider. I hope I will come back visit this area in the future. When I do, I will definitely stop by.
If any of you ever come down to Dallas area, please let me know and I will try to be a good host. :D

Thanks to an invitation from Priscilla, the Dominski family joined her and Jon for a great NOVEMBER ride on the trail out to Caryville. Even the youngest member of the group, Dan (age 9), put on 18 miles at a solid pace out to the general store where treats were purchased for the kids. Gotta keep 'em motivated! We encountered many bikers and were passed up by John and Libby on their mountain bikes out for a country tour. Hope everyone enjoyed this beautiful weather!
I had a question as to the directions to the new Northwest Park. They are below.
As you know, money is short for development of this park. But, CORBA and the Ski Striders are moving forward with volunteer labor to the start the development of this park. This area has a large acreage to develop for mountain biking, cross country skiing, hiking, running, snowshoeing, inner tubing, and leisurely walks. It has a great look out with nearly 200 feet on elevation. With a vision of snow making so the CC skier can get an early start on the season.
So, if you are so inclined, take a walk in this area, but bring a compass or GPS, because it is large. The forest is open with large trees, a herd of deer and turkeys. And the overlooks are fabulous. And, when volunteers are needed for trail work, volunteer.
Directions
From 312, take Jeffers Road (CR F) north.
Take the first right (E Prairie Lane) to Arrowhead Drive
Turn right on Arrowhead Drive to Van Es Parkway
Turn left on Van Es Parkway to the circle at the end.
This is the temporary access. The main access will be from the west off Jeffer Road to the northwest corner of the park, after more land is purchased and a road is built.
The park is north of 312 (North Crossing), west of the river and Old Wells Road, and east of Jeffers Road. It takes up this entire area, except for the two housing areas.
Yesterday, A route of the future blacktop access to the lookout point was marked. It is marked with white flags if you want to explore and see the lookout point. Craig from CORBA has already plotted the CC ski and MTB trails. An inner tube slide is also planned in a back bowl.
The little digger you see below was purchased by CORBA to help build single track mountain bike trails. A trail was build at Lowes Creek previous to this project at Hickory Ridge. This machine is a great help, but there still is a lot of hand work needed to make a finished trail. The Mini X will be at Hickory Ridge for a few more weeks, and they are looking to volunteer help. Keep in mind, the trails they build can and will also be used by walker, runner, snowshoers, and dogs
