My best friend, buddy and life companion died today at approximately 1:25 p.m.
while riding his bike and preparing for the Stanley Time Trial. Jon had a heart
attack mid-way thru his ride - it appeared that he went off the road and into a
grassy area where he was found by a medical professional who was on her way home
from work. She administered CPR until para medics arrived. Jon always said the
Pie Riders were a great group of people to be around. Thanks Bob Swanson for
hosting the ride on July 4th - our last one together. Jon loved the course, the
great food and the camaraderie with our special friends that followed. He was
planning and looking forward to the Memorial Ride for Tim Dusick in a few weeks.
Jeff Sorenson agreed to make sure this event happens - thanks, Jeff.
With much sadness but grateful for the 23 years I spent with Jon, it is time to
say goodbye.
Our hearts go out to you Judy. Jon was one of the best and he will be sorely
missed. We are so very grateful to have been able to spend time with him.

I re-read your email three times and I am so saddened by your news of Jon. I always thought he is the most considerate and gracious person person and rider. His cycling speed and skill level held me in awe and hence his participation in the time trial today.
I so hope he did not suffer and in fact was doing something he loved.
I will be thinking of you; please know that we will all miss Jon very much and everyone is here for you. These next few weeks will be very sad for you, but let's celebrate Jon's life and the joy he brought everyone.

You have our deepest sympathy. Lane was reminiscing about
their ‘epic’ rides together and he was hoping to be able to ride
more with him this summer and fall. Jon will be missed. Please let
us know if you need anything. Linda and Lane

Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I hope Jon wasn't in much pain. What a way for him to go doing what he enjoyed. If there is anything we can do for you please let us know.

Judy, I am so shocked and sorry to hear about Jon. I had missed riding with him earlier this season and so enjoyed doing so again last Thursday night . He was always so considerate of those he rode with ,no matter their strengths or weaknesses . Our best to you Judy. Bill

I am so sorry for your loss. I never got to know Jon very well, but the few occassions I had to visit with him on rides always made me know you had a good one. If I can do anything let me know.

I only met Jon once, but was incredibly impressed by his strength, but more importantly, by his kindness. This is a huge loss for you (and for the group), but I pray for your strength as you go through it.

Judy,
Jon was so kind and helpful to less experienced riders (like me). You are
in my thoughts during this sad time.

Dear Judy, I was just shocked to read your email. I am so sorry for your loss. I didn't know Jon well and had really just visited with him once at a breakfast ride a couple of years ago. I enjoyed my visit with him and he sure loved biking. I think if any of us had a choice in how we leave this world it would be doing something which we love and he did that.
It must seem like your world has just stopped but you will find the strength to carry on. You are so fortunate to have had 23 years of wonderful companionship. Cherish the good memories.
Hopefully I will get to ride with you again someday. You have been in my thoughts and again I am so sorry for your loss. Rene' Kurth

I am reading this email a little late and wish to extend my condolences to you. While I didn't know him, my heart goes out to you for losing your best friend and biking buddy.
