I am reading this email a little late and wish to extend my condolences to you. While I didn't know him, my heart goes out to you for losing your best friend and biking buddy.

Dear Judy, I was just shocked to read your email. I am so sorry for your loss. I didn't know Jon well and had really just visited with him once at a breakfast ride a couple of years ago. I enjoyed my visit with him and he sure loved biking. I think if any of us had a choice in how we leave this world it would be doing something which we love and he did that.
It must seem like your world has just stopped but you will find the strength to carry on. You are so fortunate to have had 23 years of wonderful companionship. Cherish the good memories.
Hopefully I will get to ride with you again someday. You have been in my thoughts and again I am so sorry for your loss. Rene' Kurth

My best friend, buddy and life companion died today at approximately 1:25 p.m. while riding his bike and preparing for the Stanley Time Trial. Jon had a heart attack mid-way thru his ride - it appeared that he went off the road and into a grassy area where he was found by a medical professional who was on her way home from work. She administered CPR until para medics arrived. Jon always said the Pie Riders were a great group of people to be around. Thanks Bob Swanson for hosting the ride on July 4th - our last one together. Jon loved the course, the great food and the camaraderie with our special friends that followed. He was planning and looking forward to the Memorial Ride for Tim Dusick in a few weeks. Jeff Sorenson agreed to make sure this event happens - thanks, Jeff.
With much sadness but grateful for the 23 years I spent with Jon, it is time to say goodbye.
