Do you want to hang out with other drill team people?
Do you like fellowship, brotherhood, comraderie, fun

reading about it.(she wrote it so beautifly) We had drill practice
just on what it would be like. It was one of the best practices we've

Hi, My name is Lori and Im the drill instructor for the Arizona
Youth Rough Riders here in Apache Junction AZ.
I want to thank bbcady for posting this site on her drill team site
(Rodeo City Riders).
I am just getting myself and the team back into the swing of
things. They have had a long summer and fall vacation. Though I am not
in the mid-west..I will surely be checking this site out quite often.
You all have expressed the love and spirit of drill teams...so much
better than I can put into words...( I get weepy when reading
everyones descriptions). I'm a big baby when it comes to drill (Just
ask anyone who has ever heard me TRY and introduce my team). The one
thing that stands out when I speak to parents ,friends,family..ect.
is that they all comment on the the morals and life lessons being
taught through drill. People read about
teamwork,responsibility,horsemanship,leadership,TOLERANCE,acceptance,
these are only words utill you as a teacher and a parent or anyone
who are around these kids sees what drill team has taught..(long
after the drill has stopped).I have seen honor with a kid who felt
they weren't anyone special. There is nothing better than that!
Good Luck with you club!

Because Mid-America EDT is new, it has no
organizational president or director, handbook,
by-laws or other rules of authority, but has a mission
statement. It does not discriminate against belonging
to any organization. I was disappointed to learn that
there is another drill alliance who's director does
discriminate for these reasons. Oh well, just one
little pot-hole in promotion of Drill Teams in
Mid-America. Here's whats happening with Mid-America
Equestrian Drill Teams promotion in January: A lecture
will take place in SC to equestrian youth and youth
leaders from all across USA. An extra hand-out at
this lecture will include your e-mail address as a
contact person to be a possible mentor to a new team
in your locale. If you do NOT WANT to appear on this
list, please e-mail me privately. The hand-out will
also include businesses such as tack shops,
photographers, uniforms, gifts, etc. and their
web-site addresses.
We are promoting Drill Teams and drill team fun. In
addition to the Handout, there also will be a pamphlet
available with a Resource page. It will be a good idea
to have your team name listed.
In February, there should be an established web site
for Mid-America Equestrian Drill Teams with links to
your page if you so desire.
So, who's ready to get the ball rolling on a Winter
Roundtable discussion near the end of February? Please
respond.
Thanks.Pat.

I am in support of any organization which remembers that the main goal is to
ride and have fun with your horses. Networking to share information for the
betterment of all drill team riders is the ultimate goal. Too many years, I have
seen many different organizations in all facets of the horse industry-including
some drill team organizations rise to prominence and then fall to the ground in
a sea of politics. We sometimes forget that our ultimate goal is to share
knowledge and ride our horses. If we keep communications open & enjoyment as the
ultimate goal, we will all have more fun.
We need to remember that there are many different types of drill teams from
English to Military to Western and many types of horses - from stock horses to
gaited. They all can perform drills quite well in their own disciplines.
Remember; drill teams originated out of military manuevers first and became a
part of the western culture and rodeos later.
I would just like to see everybody spend more time with their horses and passing
information with each other than they do trying to figure out who makes the
rules.
wlw-Indiana
I'm looking for the CD "Country Guitar Thunder" that Janelle said
contained some good music to drill to. Has anybody seen it? I also
found copies of old military drills that I had misplaced. I had
borrowed a whole book once and copied only about 8 pages, before
returning it. I am now looking to purchase the book, called "Military
Drills", written in the 30's or 40's.
NOTE: PK Williams will be speaking next month at a youth symposium to
an audience from all across the U.S. The Handout being prepared will
contain drill team names and contacts to be (e-mail) mentors for new
teams, teams with problems or existing teams. It will also contain
business names catering to horses & horse people. IT IS PART OF THE
FREE PROMOTION AND NETWORKING THROUGH BEING A MEMBER OF MID-AMERICA
EQUESTRIAN DRILL TEAMS. This is what Mid-America Equestrian Drill
Teams is all about....Networking toward Unity. There is no
discrimination against belonging to any other organization. Reminder:
Being a member of Mid-America/Drill TeamsUSA requires no fees or
rules of authority. The goals are to foster and encourage a unified
community of drill teams within the horse industry of the Midwest
states. Hopefully, your goals are the same. Because we are new, it is
FUN FIRST! Laughing is good exercise; it's like jogging on the inside.
HO! HO! HORSES!....HAPPY HOLIDAYS.
Please pass on this information to others who may be interested.
Don't forget to take the poll quiz. These questions lead to good
information down the road for setting uniform standards all across
America. I have lots more and a couple I would even like to send out
to every drill team from the east to the west coast as part of a
National Survey.
I was writing my Bio for a lecture I will be giving in January and I
thought how I would like to hear everybody's comments on how he/she
first got involved with horses and ultimately led you to riding on a
drill team. Here's mine: Now, your turn.
Born on a Wisconsin dairy farm, Pat began secretly riding dairy cows
at age 3. She got her first horse at age 11 - soon after her parents
found out. Since then, Pat has trained, shown and has been actively
involved with horses for many years. She currently volunteers at
SMILES, a therapeutic riding center for the disabled. Her recreation
and her devotion is with the horse.
Pat "discovered" drill riding in 1986 watching the Indianapolis Horse
Patrol Drill Team of which her husband, Wayne was a member. Pat and
Wayne since developed the Kettle Moraine Rough Riders Drill Team of
Wisconsin which has appeared in events such as the Pegasus Parade,
Equitana USA 2001, the Midwest Horse Fair, the Tennessee Volunteer
Horse Fair and many horse expos from Green Bay, Wisconsin to
Murphreesboro, Tennessee. This team was featured in Western Horsemen
magazine in 2000. Pat continues in drill, has written articles on the
sport and is a drill team judge for both Shriner Drill and Open
competitions.
We are based out of, BUT NOT LIMITD TO Wisconsin. This is to inform
you that a M-A EDT booth will be at Horse-A-Rama in Manitowc, WI in
April to promote Drill Teams in Mid-America. A Wisconsin Drill Team
will put on an exhibition and a clinic. All Drill Teams who have
joined Mid-America will be promoted at the booth as well as
businesses. There is a possibility of an invitational drill
competition with invitations being sent to only KNOWN Midwest area
drill teams.
Don't keep your drill team a secret, join Mid-America Equestrian
Drill Teams and GET RECOGNIZED!
Pass this on to others who may be interested.
Enter your vote today! A new poll has been created for the
DrillTeamsUSA group:
During your drill season, how often do
you practice between events.
o Once Per Week
o Two or More Times Per Week
o No more than Two times per month.
o Don't need to practice, we are perfect.

Tough? Let me tell you why, It was very muddy, cold and a 25 mph
wind. Not one person complained and they had fun doing it. They had
red mud on everything. The whole time I heard people saying this is a
tough bunch of Cowgirls.
Then.................................
They loaded up and went home, unloaded and cleaned the mud from
clothes, horses, tack and themselves.
Then.................................
They loaded up and drove to another Rodeo that evening, did a short
practice in the cold and wind, Put on their uniforms and did pivots
for the grand entry and performed an hour later. The performances
were great and the team had a lot of fun.
Brag?................................
The Captain is my Wife and my 10 y.o. daughter also rides on the team.
Proud................................
I am really proud of them and the team that is only starting it's
fourth month.

Since this is a new group, I am excited to see the enthusiastic
response. Brag about your team as much as possible. No kidding.. we
love to read about it!
Teams must develop an affiliation with each other for unity and
strength, promotion of the sport and strive to enhance the value &
wholesomeness of taking part in or watching a drill team perform. By
belonging to Mid-America Equestrian Drill Teams and with each others
help we can provide each team with advancement to become bigger and
better. Riders who are not on a team, but want to be can find a drill
team in close proximity to where they live will be able to find it
here. Or, they might want to start their own. Go for it! We will all
be there to help and be as close as your computer.
Many horse events - even horse shows want to keep a full day of
activities going and do not want lull time. This is where the local
drill team can fill in. New teams -this is where to get your "feet
wet". We call it Dress Rehearsal! The possibilities are endless!
Ghostriders of Texas - Congratulations on your team advancement.
Your team is fairly new. Tell us how you started, what you did to
promote your team and what you are doing to keep up your team spirit.
How often do you practice? Do you have a person in charge of PR? Are
there other teams in your area that you can call friendly rivals?
We need your help:
In one or two short sentences, we need a statement that SAYS IT ALL
in regard to riding drill or belonging to a drill team. The statement
(s) will be used as the promotional effort to appear as a heading to
newspaper and newsletter articles and any nook and cranny that we can
get into. It should also capture the general horse owning public
attention in order to help the growth of drill teams all over America.
Submit your statement(s). Also, send in the names & addresses of your
local newspaper and horse publications so w can start riding into the
hearts of everyone. Spread the word! Thanks! PKW

Hello, I belong to a Drill Team just starting out in Michigan. We are
about one hour north of Detroit. We have a very experienced Coach
that moved here from Texas and are very lucky to have her! If you are
interested in joining, please email me privatly for more information
on our team.

Hi Everyone!
I live in central Wisconsin and belong to the Rodeo City Riders
(based out of Manawa). We are a fairly new drill team although the
club has been in existence for many years (35+). I have to say that
we really envy all you teams that are able to ride throughout the
year! Check out our website at
http://www.geocities.com/rodeocityriders
Lots of photos!
The Ghostriders are from Wills Point Texas east of Dallas. This team
was formed in August of 2001 and has 20 riding members with more
joining soon. If you are interested in joining this fine organization
e-mail the Captain at Ridethatponyfast@... We have riders age 9
and up. The team has rode in parades and are already performing in
rodeos. Check out the Ghostriders at
http://theghostriders.homestead.com
It will be very exciting to watch this entity experience growth. I
am very excited about the thought of being able to attend competition
in our central location. I know that out west they have several
competitive events for drill teams but would be so nice if we could
have them in the midwest. I belong to TOPS SPOTS Drill Team based
out of Deer Creek, IL and we ride Black/White Spotted Saddle
Horse/Tennessee Walking Horses.
What do horsemen/women like to do most during times when they are
unable to ride? In most cases, it is to talk, read or think about
horses. Have you ever met someone new and learned that they have an
interest in horses also? Did you notice an immediate bond with that
person? You can get that here on Mid-America Equestrian Drill Teams
discussion Group. Issues surrounding drill riding, horse care,
horsemanship, drill team and other horse events can be found in one
location. Tell others to join in on MID-AMERICA EQUESTRIAN DRILL
TEAMS for a good ride!
The primary purpose of this Group is to gather as many drill teams as
possible to develop a cooperative in sharing ideas, resources and
enthusiasm in drill riding. It's central location is in the MidWest
with contacts who can be in close proximity to you.
As Mid-American Equestrian Drill Teams grow, we will hold local
Playdays, Winter Roundtables, and Competitive events.
There is no age discrimination, no other affiliation discrimination
or no strict rules to follow. It's secondary purpose is to have fun
and meet other drill riders.
