All-star lineup at Super Ride VII:
The 2009 United States Equestrian Drill Championship
The National Championship of mounted drill team and color guard competition will
be held June 25th, 26th, and 27th at the Texas Rose Horse Park located just
minutes from Lindale, TX.
Super Ride VII : The 2009 United States Equestrian Drill Championship (USEDC)
will be blessed by world class musical performances by local favorites Finding
Shade and by internationally known blues artists Curtis Salgado and Alan Hager.
The City of Lindale is the host community and title sponsor of the 2009
championship. Area restaurants, hotels and specialty shops are a short drive
from the competition venue. To better serve spectators and competitors, several
local merchants offer delivery to the horse park.
The USEDC competition will begin each day at 7:00 a.m. and run throughout the
day.
Thursday, June 25th will present mounted color guard units, quad teams and
several mid-level drill team divisions.
Friday, June 26th will showcase novice drill team divisions, rodeo teams and
gaited horse competitions during the day, with the Second USEDC Ride of
Champions highlighting the evening performance.
The USEDC Ride of Champions is open to USEDC Open Division National Champions,
Reserve Champions and Second Runners-up from previous Super Ride competitions.
Saturday, June 27th will feature the flash and creativity of mounted theme
divisions and culminate with competition for the USEDC National Open Division
Drill Championship.
A very special musical showcase featuring Messrs. Salgado and Hager has been
confirmed for 3:00 p.m. Saturday (June 27th).
A native of the Pacific Northwest, vocalist and harmonica virtuoso Curtis
Salgado is a seasoned performer whose credits include work with numerous
luminaries including: Robert Cray, Muddy Waters, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Albert
Collins, Bonnie Raitt, Carlos Santana, The Stilettos and Roomful Of Blues.
A friend of the late actor, John Belushi (1949 ? 1982), Mr. Salgado is credited
as being an inspiration for the immensely popular comedy act, band and motion
picture ?The Blues Brothers? which cast Mr. Belushi and the multi-talented Dan
Aykroyd as the unforgettable Jake and Elwood Blues.
Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, guitarist Alan Hager attended the Berklee
College of Music in Boston, MA (where he studied with the legendary jazz
guitarist Pat Metheny) and later the prestigious New England Conservatory.
Graduating with a bachelor of music degree, Hager began a teaching career that
continues today.
While living on the East Coast, he performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra,
the Boston Opera Company and numerous chamber music ensembles.
Returning to Oregon in 1988, Hager reunited with longtime friend Terry Robb , a
blues artist, composer and producer ? who has also collaborated with Curtis
Salgado. For over twenty years Hager has performed with Robb and with blues
harmonica player Bill Rhoades.
The well regarded county/rock band Finding Shade will perform at the Super Ride
for the fourth time.
The documentary film ?The Spirit of Aachen? will be shown on Friday evening,
June 26th at approximately 8:00 p.m. - immediately following the USEDC Ride of
Champions competition ? in the VIP area (above the main arena) at the Texas Rose
Horse Park. Shot on location at the world famous CHIO Aachen: World Equestrian
Festival in Germany, this compelling program presents an unbiased
?behind-the-scenes? look at the premier event of equestrian sport.
Prior to the Saturday evening awards ceremony, the United States Equestrian
Drill Association (USEDA) All Star Team will perform. The forty (40) member team
is comprised of top juniors and young riders from USEDA member organizations
throughout the country.
Competition throughout Super Ride VII is expected to be first rate, as many top
teams return to the competition and several newly qualified teams make their
first appearance on the national stage. The Canadian Valley Rangerettes, the two
time National Open Drill Division Champions will seek to repeat, as well as to
retain the SportsQuest Cup ? awarded annually to the winning team in the USEDC
Ride of Champions.
