Super Ride VI: Notes of a first time observer...
by Kimberly R. Cox
The events are engaging, the spirit of competition is in the air, the
skill level is superior, and the
camaraderie is apparent.
All these things are true of Super Ride VI: The 2008 United States
Equestrian Drill Championship,
being held this week at the Texas Rose Horse Park.
In every barn can be found attentive riders of various age, caring for
their horses and fellowshipping
with one another.
Far from a cut-throat intensity, both spectators and participants are
engaged in a friendly environment
where the ?Hey yall's?, ?How ya doin's?, smiles and laughs are plentiful.
Not to be forgotten, this is also a competition in which riders have
achingly poured blood, sweat, and
tears into countless practices and rehearsal rides in preparation for
this special event.
Riders can be found shining boots, bathing horses, and brushing up on
last minute tweaks in their
routines.
Most apparent, there is a remarkable love between all of the riders
and their horses and the easy going
attitude of everyone in attendance that makes Super Ride VI so unique
and enjoyable.
