On Jan 28th, Discsports in Southern California ran the Ice Bowl in Paradise
charity event at
beautiful Whitter Narrows park this year. We had perfect weather and thanks to
Los
Angeles County Parks and Recreation signing on as a sponsor – we had a perfect
venue for
the event. Oversubscribed to 82 players we added 3 holes and played 21 holes
each
round. Not only was this DISC's biggest Ice Bowl ever – it was the most
successful. We
raised $3626 in charitable contributions to DISC and the Los Angeles Regional
Food Bank!
The help of So Cal Disc Golf was indispensable this year. Big thanks to Suzette
Simons, to
Jerry Ross for scorecard help and to Tita's John Kehrbaum for spotting at Hole
#13 both
rounds. So Cal donated some prizes and ran the CTP contest this year and was
able to
hand out membership packs and the cool new bag tags at registration. Homer
Vazira and
Chris Ginnaven helped with lunch supplies and set up. Robert Valenzuela helped
with
course preparation.
Our other sponsors chipped in to help us run a fun event that gave good value to
the
players and raised some good money too. Say thanks to Trader Joe's for
chocolate and
cookies, to Discovering The World for help with prizes, to Ventura Disc Golf
Club for the
cool jewel box calendars, and to Lawrence Halili for the neat basket Trophy for
our
Farthest Traveled – Steven Hines of San Luis Obispo. Thanks to The Park Bar and
Grill in
Burbank for the gift certificates awarded to John Babin and Mike McNamara to
honor their
commitment to coordinate installation of the Chavez Ridge DGC in Elysian Park.
Also
thanks to Cliff Towne and Roshan Reporter, Jon and Gail Freedman, C.E. Courtney,
Rags
and Bags (John Babin) and Discovering the World for their donations to DISC for
Chavez
Ridge DGC.
