Great news Disc Golf Fans!

Yesterday, the Lake Casitas Disc Golf course was granted an official 1 year
trial
by the Casitas Valley Water District Board of Supervisors with only one
dissenting vote.

Congratulations to the Ventura Disc Golf Club who showed up to the meeting in
force and
dressed nicer than I've ever seen them and to the Casitas Park Rangers Brian &
Rob who
championed our cause!

Now it is up to the rest of us to prove that they made the correct decision!

Also, for anyone interested in helping us celebrate, there will be a course
monthly this saturday at 10pm unless otherwise instructed.

May your Anheuser always helix!

The Ventura Disc Golf Club had a stunning piece of land along Lake Casitas
to use for 
their course - elevation, vegetation and super views of the lake. It was a
perfect venue for 
this year's Fling. 
First off we want to thank the Ventura Club for all their help to make
this a great 
event. Mel, Tom, and Greg for getting us those short tees and designing a
shorter course 
that would get us to lunch quickly. Greg for his added help with graphics. To
all the 
spotters - Kimbra and Billy, Dennis etc. � thanks! Thanks to our sponsors,
Discovering 
The World, Innova and Geotel. Chris Ginnaven for help organizing, Cliff Towne,
- the TD, 
Beth Verish, Erin White, Pat Sweeney and Chris Horn for Disc Arcade assist etc.

Now for the news. Everybody was excited at the player's meeting to hear
that DISC's 
proposal for a course in Elysian Park had been approved by the park advisory
group and 
that DISC had once again been asked to staff LAUSD's Summer Disc Sports
program., and 
a last minute flurry of entrants helped put the event into the black (over
$700!). We had 
one ace,�.and it was on hole #15 � the one that Geotel had $100 on! Our
farthest 
traveled player � Steve Ritenour of MD � hit it on the 2nd round. Yee haw! -
as we say here 
out west. Wally Moore and Chris Horn in Open were tied at the end of regulation
� in 
standard Fling fashion we had them throw a closest-to safari shot from the
campground 
to hole # 1 and Wally broke the tie, June 4th is John Babin's Birthday � it
was only fitting 
that his son would win Juniors and that John would break through with his first
Fling 
victory in the Advanced Masters division. Happy Birthday John! Congrats also to
David 
Hadder who rode his first round of 45 to a victory in the Advanced Grandmasters.
The best 
round on the short course went to Pro Masters winner Paul Mihalec with a 41 and
in the 
longer layout to the Open winner Wally Moore with a 43. Mini Accuracy saw
another victory 
for Pat Sweeney and Disc Shuffleboard went to Alan Fridge and Howard Tan won the
 
Telepathy Challenge with his mind meld with Advanced Women's winner Megan
Stroh. 
Winners received one of the special run of 25 Candy Starfires and more
than a third 
of the field got DTW Gift Certificates (spend these or face the dreaded curse of
gacked 
putts!). Prizes worth more than $325 were distributed to Disc Arcade winners
and as 
recognition gifts to the Ventura Club. Big Fun was had at the Fling IX.
