Of course before beginning any major trail modification or additions, we will
need to seek authorization from the appropriate land owner.

No room at all, really? Whenever I ride along that road section I look
down and think about where a trail could go, and it always seems like
there is at least a narrow strip of trees between the road and the lake
shore. The challenge seems to be more that some parts of that section
slope down to the lake very steeply and it would take a huge amount of
work to put a flat trail in through those parts.

I'd be up for trying, though. Maybe sometime we could go out there and
walk it and toss some ideas around.

I got to be the Last to mountain bike on Gold Lake trail (Nov 4th) and the First to cross-country ski on Gold Lake trail (Nov 14th).  Both trips I saw bear tracks in the snow there was some snow on the Nov 4th ride.  I saw the bear tracks on Nov 14th by the turn out to the Upper Marylyn trailhead in about a foot of snow.  I'm looking forward to the cross-country ski season so I would like to post the next event anyway if anyone is interested.  Chasesbearwithskies Allen
"Jan 2nd and 3rd, 2010 Fuji Shelter to celebrate the New Year." (Full Moon Dec 31st)
Other events to come I hope.  Maiden Peak Shelter overnight trip (see the new wood shed I helped with).
DOD ski trip for all those who like to X/C ski.

The section of road between the picnic tables and the boat ramp will be tough to
avoid. There is no room for a trail between the road and the lake. I don't know
if the land north of the road is owned by the Army Corps or not, but if so, it
would be best to build trail above the road.

Yes I was thinking it would be pretty hard to make that "lift" up on the
outbound direction...I did not ride it as I missed it being there....he had
also but some rocks down in one of the little drainage "creeks" and a piece
of plastic pipe....I still would like to connect up the trail section so you
do not have to go out onto the road....

Yeah we noticed that someone has been doing trail work out there, must
have been the guy you met. That route around the stream crossing is
going to need some treadwork I think, it's pretty chewed up right now
and also unrideably steep in the outbound direction, at least on a SS. I
was *just* able to clear it coming back the other way. Maybe it will
become easier as more people ride it.

Rode North Shore Saturday with Paul, Eric, & I am ashamed to say two other gents that I cannot remember their names..two dogs too…We also met a guy who had been doing some trail work/revisions over the last day or two (for one a pass around for the first creek crossing that one normally has to get off and hike-a-bike)….So Roland…get your chainsaw out..there were several downed trees that will need a chain saw to remove…3 or 4 good sized ones back of Signal Point boat ramp, a couple from there up to the road.

From School Creek up to saddle where we turned back and all the way back down to the road was clear of downed trees…leafy but pretty darn fast…trail traction was very good. Great day for a ride! Got some cookie pictures!

Props to all who represented! And thanks Matt for keeping these opportunities
in front of the MTB community.

If anyone has not please take a few moments to take the Ridgeline survey found
here:
http://tiny.cc/lTRNm
You do not have to live in Eugene to participate. Taking the survey will help
further represent our interests and needs when the results are tabulated.
Thanks! -Adam.

It was a beautiful day to be out on Spencer's Butte, improving our local trails. Six members of the DOD came out and worked with about 10 other volunteers on the main trail to the Spencer Butte summit. Today's project was a bit different than our normal trailwork jobs. We spent the morning planting native ferns and shrubs next to the new rock bridge that was recently built, and planted more plants to block off rogue trails that have formed. It was a great opportunity to talk to our co-volunteers about the past efforts of the DOD, and educate them about MTB concerns. Getting to know other trail users is great, and I feel we all walked away appreciating eachother's perspectives on trail concerns.

Hopefully, we can continue to make a presence at these projects, as I think our efforts will really help convince people that MTB riders are an asset to Eugene's trails, not a threat.

Thanks to Steve and Candy and Bad Chris and Timmy and Tyler too!

Also, for those interested, there will be a sneak preview of the newest section of the Ridgeline next Sunday. I plan on doing a couple of hours of work at Whypass, and then heading back for this event.

Walking Tour of Arlie Ridgeline Extension
Sunday, November 22nd at 2:00 pm
Meet at upper LCC parking lot, end of Eldon Schaefer Drive.

This will be only a walking tour of the western portion of the park.
We will either walk the entire loop road or we will do an excursion to
the upper park area at the western edge and then return.
Come to see the various habitats and new views that this recent acquisition affords. Get ideas for the planning process that is underway and see opportunities for habitat restoration projects.
We will finish in 3 hours or less but feel free to leave as you needed.

I can't make this. I am on taxi duty. The girls have volleyball games at the
same time, but across town from each other. I am planning on doing some trail
work or exploring Sunday at Whypass if anybody cares to go.

Very encouraging Davey - making the guy pray his soul that he lands safely on the runway, than on the sackway...! Okay, folks here's how Davey see it, Whypass is more scarier than, I thought - Cathedral, should cherish the hoppin' bunnies with wheels, but, I had once heard there was hell's trail and there's goonies trail, than, there was ballistically insane trail - which was supposedly named after doctor death. But, sarcastically, Davey and Brockovitch conspired to twitch the known facts that Whypass should never be done by beginners or first timers!

Hmm...., now where have I heard that before? Brockovitch himself! Obtw, there was another trial called "Running Scared" and "Cannonball Run", supposedly this trail had Loni Anderson looking for a cool ride?

FYI there is a trail at Whypass called "Cathedral." Not a bad place to do some worshiping; you can even do a little while in the air.

I would like to be a part of the Ridgeline trailwork, but at this point other priorities conspire to keep me away. (No, I'm not riding my bike.) If things loosen up I'll be there, but that's unlikely.

So is any one else planning on going to this?

In case you haven't been up to Spencer Butte, the parking lot is located on the east side of South Willamette Street about 1 mile south of W52nd Ave. Not the little parking lot under the power lines, but the big paved lot.

I hope to see a few of yall out there.

I am encouraging the local MTB community to make more efforts to build relationships with the other trail users in town, and this will be a great opportunity to work side by side with Obsidians, Friends of Ridgeline, and City staff. We can show off our trail maintenance skills, and show that we care about our local parks.
