South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet emerged after the no-carb diet craze started to wane. Many people found that, though they could lose weight quickly follow no-carb diets like the Atkins diet; they couldn't eat like that forever. When they started eating carbs again, they gained all the weight back, and then some. The South Beach diet's claim that you can eat carbs, as long as they are the right carbs, was music to many dieters' ears. The diet soon became the most popular weight loss by carb management diet on the market.
Where did the South Beach diet come from?
Who came up with the South Beach diet? The person responsible for this weight loss revolution is Miami, FL, based cardiologist Dr. Arthur Agatiton. He designed the doctor to help his heart patients lose weight and increase their cardiac health. The basis for the diet is glycemic index, which rates carbs on how fast your body turns them into sugar. The faster your body converts the food to sugar, the worse the food is for your overall health and your weight. The South Beach diet plan requires dieters to stick to foods low on the glycemic index scale.
The South Beach diet takes users through three phases. The first phase is the most restrictive, and lasts for two weeks. It is designed to give you a weight loss boost. The second phase is for regular weight loss, and the third phase is for maintenance. By the time you have reached the third phase, you have hopefully learned the right way to eat, and can eat an unrestricted diet without indulging in the wrong foods.
