No, it only seems like it.

On 11/21/06 he signed an 8-year deal, he's only in the 3rd year.  It just seems
like it's been 15 years.  We have to put up with him until 2014 when he's 38 and
still whining that he want's to bat lead-off.  I now know why Torre wanted to
get rid of himi when he was the Yankees manager.

I said in a post about a year ago that a good friend of mine is friends with
Carlos Lee.  He has a kid that lives close to Chicago.  He wanted to play for
the Cubs to be near his daughter.  He personally called Hendry and asked him if
he could work out a deal to play for the Cubs.  Hendry told hom NO because he
was pursuing Sorry-ano.  Unbelievable!

Regarding your other post about Lee's .600 avg at Wrigley, in that time he was
also facing mediocre Cubs pitching. I always have misgivings about signing
someone who does great at Wrigley.... And then we wonder why they can't do it
against opposing teams when they're with the cubs

I don't know the exact quote, but it was something along the lines of Sorry
talking about Badley not giving 100%, and if he's not going to give 100% day-in
and day-out he shouldn't be on the team. And the Sorry commenced swinging at
balls that bounce on the plate, and only half-heartedly chasing down balls hit
near him.

Sucks, doesn't it?!  Hendry is a terrible judge of talent.  C-Lee is hitting a
sickening .600 at Wrigley!

Amen, Nat.

El Cabayo could have been the leader we needed, and an unselfish, consistent
left-fielder. Losing out on him probably was Hendry's worst non-move. Heck, I'd
have even taken Mags over Sorry-ano, but yet again, JH forget step #1, which is
"Remove head from rectum".

Remember when we had a LF'er who cared a LOT more about his team, than where he
hits in the order? I actually got one of his HR balls sitting on my shelf, which
I had to honestly fight for on Waveland. Even if Moises peed on MY hands, I'd
take him over Sorry any day.

Yeah, the only way we're likely to get rid of him is if we keep paying a
huge chunk of his contract for him to play somewhere else.

I don't know about you guys, but as the song goes, "I got $5 on it"!

Lol that's what the 49er's had to do to get Terrell Owens out of town. I think
the 9ers pay him the entire time he played at Philly. sometimes it is best to

A couple points to this thread:
Tom, when I was in Naperville last week, there was an article that said how MB
did not have a tight knit relationship with anyone in the locker room and that
people did not have his back. Most players did not say much, but AS made a
comment which basically said if he is not 100% for the team, we don't need him
here. Now Sorriano is whining that he was not notified beforehand by Lou that
he was sitting out the game.

AJ, I agree that a lot of players fatten up against us at Wrigley but Carlos Lee
is pretty consistent against most teams, and does not sttrike out that much for
a power hitter. Secondly, he is only signed to a reasonable 4yr deal.

Lastly, Charlie the deal's length is long but not unheard of as arod signed a 10
year deal and then midway through renegotiated. The issue is who we signed that
deal for and at what point in his career. Had we signed it 3 years prior and
were 6 years into it, then not as bad, but we are about a 1/3 of the way into it
and already have buyer's remorse.

Someone who isn't in his right mind, namely Jim Hendry. As you point out,an
athlete's career can come to an end just like that. It is insane to give players
10 to 15 year contracts when there is no guarantee they will remain healthy
enough to play out those contracts. Even 5 years is too long. A contract
shouldn't be any longer than 2 years. The Yanks were insane to sign A Rod to a
10 year contract as good a player as he is.-Jael

Can't we see if we can trade him to a team in the Japanese Professional League?
How about the Australian or Taiwanese leagues? Italy has professional baseball.
Just throwing out a few ideas.

Nice job killing the joke.
FYI, that's why he put a ;) in there. That means it's a joke. That also means
we/he doesn't need someone correcting him on his obvious sarcasm. (Again, the
whole ;) thingy)
But yeah, thanks.
Go Cubs!

But yeah, thanks.
Go Cubs!

All joking aside, I was fairly happy with most everything about today's game.
Lilly again pitched great at home, AS may not have crushed the ball but I really
liked his at bats today. Fuko had a bad 1st at bat, but he crushed his 2nd
chance; unfortunately Ludwich made a nice running catch. Baker had one bad
defensive play, but otherwise he was nice today. Really liked that DP. Theriot
made a nice play in the 9th that should have resulted in another DP and a less
stressful 9th, and finally Gregg came in and took 3 pitches to end the drama. I
thought MB had some nice swings and overall we played a decent game. My only
gripes are the following:
1. I would have left Lilly in the game, even to hit him as he was on cruise
control. Instead Lou went ot a a very questionable Marmol.
2. Marmol had a nice breaking pitch today, but had nothing on his FB again. Why
is LR able to work that out, as a consistent FB would make him nearly
unhittable. He looks like he is always overthrowing that pitch. Lou left him
in too long today, but luckily KG closed it out.
3. Pujols did not hustle out of the box in the 9th on that hit, and Buck all but
bent over backwards apologizing for him. Had that been anyone on the Cubs,
especially ARAM he would have gone ballistic complaining about the lack of
hustle ,,, yada yada yada .. yackety smackety. I hate Joe Buck more than any
other announcer. I would almost rather listed to Chris Berman .. and that says
a lot.

I think the 9ers pay him the entire time he played at Philly. sometimes it is
best to cut losses... However who in their right mind signs someone to a 15 year
contract. Pro sports career's can end in a heartbeat.

In the case of Marmol u give LR too much credit in his ability to make changes
to Marmol's performance.

thought MB had some nice swings and overall we played a decent game. My only
gripes are the following:

Marmol is odd this year. He seems to only have 1 pitch working at a time. Either
his FB is great, but he can't get his slider anywhere near the zone, or his
slider makes batters look awful, but he can't throw a FB near the plate, let
alone over it.
I don't know if it has anything to do with the WBC, but last season, all season,
he had both his pitches working well, every time out.

My only

Why is LR able to work that out, as a consistent FB would make him nearly
unhittable. He looks like he is always overthrowing that pitch. Lou left him
in too long today, but luckily KG closed it out.

I'm just saying that when Zambrano had mechanical trouble it took LR almost half
a season to figure out that he was throwing out of a different "slot".
Fundamental pitching mechanics tell you that when a pitcher drops his arm from
normal the pitch thrown tends to be high and the cause of the drop is usually
due to fatigue or injury if it differs from the usual delivery and is
consistent.
