RE: DIEHARD CUBS GROUP BREWERS 5 CUBS 4, and El Cabayo

I say keep Pierre, and give him another shot. I still feel in my heart that
this teams' management is HORRIBLE! Get some coaches that know what they're
doing, and a manager that knows how to manage. Baker sucks. Period.

were some good plays. The idea came up of the Cubs getting Carlos Lee in the
off-season, and I am praying they do. He does so well at Wrigley- but I hope
that is not just because he is playing the Cubs when he is there!!! But I
would love to see him in our outfield next year, and maybe Pie. I dunno if
we can get a deal done to move Jones, but I am pretty sure Pierre is not
coming back. So- who is our leadoff hitter next year? Back to the drawing
board.

Spot starter Geremi Gonzalez worked five innings for the win and the
Milwaukee Brewers sent Mark Prior to his third straight defeat by
beating the Chicago Cubs 5-4 Thursday.

Gonzalez, who was 11-9 as a rookie with the Cubs in 1997 before arm
problems derailed his career, made the most of his first start for
the Brewers. He got the call when Doug Davis was scratched a day
earlier with a tight back.

Gonzalez (1-0) allowed three hits and two unearned runs with five
walks and six strikeouts to earn his first win as a starter since May
8, 2005, with the Red Sox.

Matt Wise, who cut a finger on his right hand when he caught it on
salad tongs Sunday, gave up a run-scoring double to Jacque Jones in
the seventh, trimming the lead to 5-4.

The Cubs had first and second with one out in the eighth, but Todd
Walker bounced out to first with the runners advancing before closer
Derrick Turnbow struck out Derrek Lee. Turnbow also pitched the ninth
for his 23rd save in 27 chances, striking out Ronny Cedeno with a
runner on second to end it.

The Brewers scored four of their five runs with two outs against
Prior, who also gave up a leadoff homer to Corey Koskie in the
second. Milwaukee won three times in the four-game series at Wrigley
Field, where the Cubs have lost 10 of 11.

Gonzalez's error with two outs in the fifth, when he missed Walker's
popped bunt in front of the plate, opened the way for the Cubs to
score two unearned runs. The right-hander walked Lee and Aramis
Ramirez to load the bases, and Jones delivered a two-run single --
just the Cubs' third hit of the game -- that made it 3-2.

Prior (0-3), who came off the disabled list June 18, allowed eight
hits and five runs with four walks and nine strikeouts in 5 2-3
innings.

The Brewers loaded the bases with none out in the sixth on a walk and
two singles before Prior struck out Damian Miller and Brady Clark.
But pinch-hitter Gabe Gross dumped a two-run single into shallow
left, putting the Brewers up 5-2 and finishing Prior.

The Cubs got a run off Wise in the sixth on Matt Murton's double-play
grounder.

Prior gave up a leadoff single to Rickie Weeks, who scored after two
strikeouts when Carlos Lee hit an RBI double.

Koskie's 11th homer made it 2-0 in the second, and the Brewers got
another two-out run in the fourth when Koskie walked, stole second
and scored on Miller's double.

Notes

Gonzalez had gone by the first name "Jeremi" throughout his major
league career. But when he joined the Brewers, he brought it to the
team's attention that it should be spelled "Geremi." ... Carlos Lee
had three hits and a walk. ... Cubs C Michael Barrett sat out the
final game of his 10-game suspension for punching White Sox C A.J.
Pierzynski last month and will return when the teams open their
second interleague series Friday at Wrigley Field. ... The Brewers
are 40-40, the 14th time this season they've been at .500. They
haven't been over the mark since May 29.
