I like your sentiments Jake, however the only thing I sort of disagree with is
the CP/Wlker for Pierre trade. I think htat would be fair becuase we would be
in essence trading two 1-dimensional players for one 2-dimensional player.
Pretty fair to me ..

Williamson and Rusch are essential to have around
considering the injury question marks that surround Wood
and, to a lesser extent, Prior. Statistically, Williamson
is an above-average, albeit slightly above average,
performer for his age. He also appears to be on the uptick
and I fully expect he will continue to become better under
the tutelage of Larry Rothschild.
I'm not sure about Burnett even though his stuff IS
way-nasty. His current stats and injury history worry me.
I'd be more interested in getting a lesser "big name" type
guy w/ via trade (don't have any names to throw out @ the
moment).
>>How about a Patterson and Walker deal for Pierre?
I can agree on Patterson and another player of average
talent but tend to think giving Walker would tilt the deal
in the Marlin's favor.
Also, an outfield of Nomar, Pierre, Murton would seem to be
a fairly weak throwing OF, wouldn't it? I know Murton
doesn't have a great arm...it is IMO average. I know for
certain that Pierre's arm is below average. Nomar has a
fairly strong arm but how much would he need to change his
mechanics if he were to play LF - that rock skipping
throwing motion doesn't seem feasible for playing the OF.
Just worrying about seeings lots of runners going 1st to
3rd on us w/ that proposed OF. Great thoughts however.
I DO want to see Murton getting regular playing time.
Echoing other comments...what else does the kid need to
do??? As long as he remains consistent and fundamentally
sound in the fall league I fully expect him to have every
chance to play regularly. The recent interview they had w/
Matt on Cubs.com reinforced my belief that this guy has his
head screwed on straight and knows how to exceed,
regardless of @ what level (minors, fall league, majors,
etc).
I hope this is what Hendry & Co. are thinking too or they
might have a few militant fans on their hands next year...I
know I'll be leading the lynch mob if Murton doesn't get a
fair shot.
I'm loving this discussion,
J.P.
