+ Tuesday speed workout

+ Other DTR affiliated runs: Sat Evergreen, Sun Golden

+ Talks, Clinics, and other Non-Race Events

+ Other area clubs and runs
+ Discounts for DTRs

TUESDAY SPEED
Join us every week for speed work on trails. Look for a separate
e-mail, with the location, Mon evening, or Tue during the day.

This is for runners of all abilities. (The only exception is for
beginning runners or those coming back after a long lay-off. You
should build a good base, with lower effort, and gradually longer
runs, before you start doing speed work.)

The workouts are designed typically with the hard efforts on up hills
or non-technical terrain. The group stays in a compact area (e.g.,
short loop), so no one will get left behind. We run for time, starting
and finishing together.

THURSDAY RUN
Run Location: South Table Mtn. Meet at the NREL lot. The main group
will start at 6:15pm; the early group at 5:30pm.

Run notes: There should be a new map and route description up on the
web site by Wed. This is a fairly easy run physically, but the route
finding can be difficult. There are numerous social trails, no trail
signs, and few landmarks. If you haven't run here before, please bring
the map and notes with you. We will try to make sure that everyone has
a veteran to run with. There are not bathrooms or changing facilities
at the trail. The closest bathrooms are at the Denver West shopping
area (just the other side of I70), or the Marriott.

Reminder: Everyone is invited to join us for dinner after the run.

Thursday is May 3. Does anyone want to host a Tres de Mayo potluck party?

information about DTR, including FAQs, please go to the link below.

This Tuesday's speed workout will be at Chief Hosa. Meet just below
the lodge. We'll leave at 6:10pm.

Warm-up: Jog together, up the road to the right of the lodge. At ~0.7
mi, at the 3-way junction, go left, down the fairly steep dirt road,
to the bottom, near I-70. Alternatively (i.e., if you are late), you
can take the flatter road to the left of the lodge, ~3/4mi, and meet
us at the bottom of the hill.

Workout: Hill repeats on the steep dirt road. From the bottom, run
hard (a little faster than 5km race effort) up the hill. Run either to
the 3-way junction or 2:30, whichever comes first. Jog back down to
the bottom. Repeat for about 25 minutes, however many repeats you can
get done in that time (3-6 for most people).

Then, we'll jog together back to the cars.

Everyone is welcome to the speed workouts, regardless of speed or
ability. We stay in a compact area, so no one will get left behind.
The only exception is for beginning runners or those coming back after
a long lay-off. You should build a good base, with lower effort, and
gradually longer runs, before you start doing high intensity training.

Bring a warm clothing for the warm-up and cool-down, and water, if you
want, to drink between the repeats. You can leave the extra clothes
and water on the side of the trail where we do the workout. Bring dry
clothes to change into after the run.

If you are unfamiliar with Chief Hose or need directions, please go to
http://dtr.runuphillracing.com and click on maps.

Join us this Sunday morning for a group run on Oh My God road.

OMG The road goes from Idaho Springs to Central City. It's a chance to
get in some good climbing and elevation without dealing with snow.

OMG is ~5.8mi & 1,800'+ up, then back. It starts at 7,500', and tops out at
9,340'. The bottom ~3/4 mi is paved. There's another ~1/2mi paved at the top.
The rest is a dirt road. It's non-technical, so you can use road shoes. You can
turn around before the top if you don't want to run that far (you can also go
longer). We'll decide as a group how long (time) we want to run so that everyone
finishes at about the same time.

OMG is the site of a race that RMRR used to put on, and that I used to
direct. Different versions of the race went 8 or 9 miles.

Meet at the Cold Spring Park-n-Ride at 8:00am. 4th and Union, in
Lakewood. Take 6th ave. to the Simms/Union exit. Go south. Take the
first left at 4th, then left into the lot.
http://www.rtd-denver.com/parknride/index.html

If coming from Evergreen, we'll pick you up at the bottom of Floyd
Hill (jct of hwy 65 & I70), at 8:30am.

Run location: Start on the bridge, at 23rd ave. and Colorado Blvd., in
Idaho Springs. Take I70 W to the first Idaho Springs exit, #241a. This
lets you off onto Colorado Blvd., the main street. Continue W for
about 0.8mi to a park (grassy area) on the right, just past the
Safeway on the left. Park along the right.

TUESDAY SPEED
This Tuesday's speed workout will be at Forsberg Park on Green Mtn. If
it's rainy, we'll go to Red Rocks, Trading Post. We will start at 6:00pm.

Directions: Forsberg Park is located at 16200 W Alameda Parkway,
Lakewood. It's along the west extension of Alameda, ~1mi west of the
junction with S. Bear Creek Blvd and Jewell Ave, and ~1/2mi E of C470.
Look up the directions for Green Mtn on the DTR site. Then:

From the north, continue past the Rooney lot, ~1/3mi, to the stop
sign. Turn left. Cross over C470. There is a large sign for the park,
and a sign for the City of Lakewood. Park in the dirt lot on the right
(past the construction area).

From the south, follow the directions up Rooney Rd to Alameda. There,
turn right to the park.

The workout will be hill repeats – a series of short, hard uphill
sprints, with a long recovery. The goal is build power for the hills
and develop the fast twitch muscle fibers. We'll do the repeats for
20-25 minutes, including the rest interval, however many you get done
in the time. Everyone will start and finish at the same time, and run
back-and-forth in the same location.

Workout location: From the Forsberg lot, carefully cross Alameda, to
the north side, and access the Green Mtn trails through the fence
opening to the right. For a warm-up, we'll jog out-and-back on the
trail, to the left. For the repeats, we'll either be running on the
hill straight up from the opening to Alameda, or, more likely, up the
trail to the right a bit. Look for us about 100 yards up to the right,
by the fenced off area.

The speed work is for runners of all abilities. The group will stay in
a compact area, so no one will get left behind. The only exception is
for beginning runners or those coming back after a long lay-off. You
should build a good base, with lower effort, and gradually longer
runs, before you start doing speed work.

Bring a warm clothing for the warm-up and cool-down, and water, if you
want, to drink between the repeats. You can leave the extra clothes
and water on the side of the trail where we do the workout. Bring dry
clothes to change into after the run.

If you are unfamiliar with the trails at Green Mtn or need directions
to the lot, please go to http://dtr.runuphillracing.com and click on maps.

++++++++++
THURSDAY RUN
Run Location: Mt. Falcon, UPPER LOT. The main group will start at
6:15pm; the early group at 5:30pm.

Run notes: Everyone should take the Parmalee trail, the first right.
From there, slower runners should go back via the Meadow and Castle
trails. Intermediate runners should do the inner Old Ute loop. Faster
runners should do the Devils Elbow loop. We usually run these
counter-clockwise. Please review these options on the map.

Bike/run from the bottom: Start early and mtn. bike or run up from the
bottom. We'll have to start no later than 5:15pm in order to make it
to the upper lot in time, without going too hard.

SOUTH TABLE MOUNTAIN
TONIGHT, WED, Jefferson County Open Space (JEFFCO) is holding an open
house to talk about and get input for plans on developing South Table
Mountain. The meeting is from 6-8pm, at the American Mountaineering
Center, 710 10th Street, Golden. More info on the meeting at:
http://jeffco.us/openspace/openspace_T56_R148.htm

It's important that they hear from trail runners. JEFFCO is great
about working with the public. However, they can't make plans for what
they don't hear about. Some of the past meetings have been attended by
lots of neighborhood activists and conservationists, and mountain
bikers. While their wishes are important, it's also important that
they hear from trail runners.

South Table is very convenient, and is one of the few "real" trails
that doesn't require you to start up a long steep uphill. I think it's
also a trail that lends itself to night usage; officially, all JEFFCO
parks close at dark. However, with our input, they might be willing to
open some of their parks at night.

THURSDAY RUN
Run Location: Bear Creek Lake Park. The main group will start at
6:15pm; the early group at 5:30pm.

I (Adam) am going to need a ride to/from the run, not necessarily from the same
person. I live in Park Hill. I can meet you near downtown or Cherry Creek, etc.

Run notes: Once again, the forecast calls for rain/snow. And I thought
May was the cruelest month. If it's wet, we'll run the roads and bike
paths in the park. WE DON'T RUN ON MUDDY TRAILS! If it's dry, we'll
run the trails in the park. Be prepared for either. PLEASE READ THE
MAP & ROUTE DESCRIPTION if you haven't run here before. The trails can
be confusing. You might want to bring the map with you. The road/path
route is fairly straightforward. You can also get more info at

TUESDAY SPEED
This Tuesday's speed workout will be at Green Mtn. Meet at the Rooney
Road lot, ready to run, at 6:00pm.

The workout will be hill repeats, ~30-40 second hard uphill sprints;
walk down for a full recovery, ~1:30. Repeat for 20-25 minutes,
however many you get done in the time. Everyone will start and finish
together.

Start with an easy jog warm-up to the hill, ~10 min. Then, the
repeats. Then an easy jog back to the cars.

On the repeats, run hard for ~30 seconds. Only go hard until your form
starts to break down, and maybe a few strides more. Don't try to make
it all the way to the top. Then, walk/jog easy to the bottom, and repeat.

Workout location: From the lot, run up the paved path and across the
bridge. Continue straight, up the service road (wide dirt), for about
300 yards. Take the single-track trail to the left. The trail starts
flat, then there's a steep drop, followed by a steep climb, then
another steep descent. Regroup at the bottom of the secend steep
climb. The hill repeats will be on this second hill.

Bring dry
clothes to chang into after the run.

If you are unfamiliar with the trails at Green Mtn or need directions
to the lot, please go to http://dtr.runuphillracing.com and click on maps.

I (Adam) will not be there. Mike Robbert will lead the way.

This evening's run will be at Red Rocks. We will not run at Apex.

Recent reports are that "APEX IS MUDDY!" DTR does not run on muddy trails. Running (or riding/hiking) on muddy trails speeds erosion and damages the trail for future users.

Also, there's a chance it might rain/snow this evening.

Meet at the Trading Post. If it's dry, we will run to and on the Matthews Winters trails. If it's wet, we'll stay on the roads around Red Rocks (hilly, little traffic).

write their Start Time, Number of loops planned, and split time on
your way by. That way, any runners that start later can have an idea
of how long they need to wait for a running partner.

Where: Waterton Canyon Lot, the second one (directly across from
Waterton Canyon, but we will be exiting the lot in the opposite
direction, into Chatfield.) There is a very posh shit-hole, complete
with a permanent structure, TP and chilly updrafts at the start,
another one about 100 yds from the start and another about 2.5 miles
out. Lots of trees and leaves after that."

This Tuesday's speed workout will be at Green Mtn. Meet at the Rooney
Road lot, ready to run, at 6:15pm.

We will start with a ~10min easy jog warm-up. The workout will be hill
repeats, ~30-40 second hard uphill sprints; walk down for a full
recovery, ~1:30. Repeat for 20-25 minutes, however many you get done
in the time. Everyone will start and finish together. Then, ~5-10 min
cool down back to the cars.

On the repeats, run hard for ~30 seconds; don't try to make it all the
way to the top. Once your form starts to break down, it's time to
stop, return to the bottom, and repeat.

The speed work is for runners of all abilities. We will stay in a
compact area, so no one will get left behind.

Bring dry
clothes to chang into after the run.

If you are unfamiliar with the trails at Green Mtn or need directions
to the lot, please go to http://dtr.runuphillracing.com and click on maps.

I (Adam) will not be there. Look for Mike, Mike and Joe to lead the way.

THURSDAY RUN & FIREWORKS

This Thursday is the annual E-Days fireworks show at the Colo School
of Mines (CSM). This is the best fireworks show in the state. Think of
students, smart engineers, given free reign to blow stuff up as a
school project. The show takes place at the CSM stadium, in Golden,
near 12th & Birch. It starts around 9pm, and goes for about 30
minutes. It's free. Bring warm clothes to change into after the run.
If you can't make the run, just show up for the show.

Run Location: Chimney Gulch/Lookout Mtn. The main group will start at
6:15pm; the early group at 5:30pm.

Run notes: The forecast calls for a chance of rain/snow. We'll run the
trail if it's dry, the road if it's wet. WE DON'T RUN ON MUDDY TRAILS!
Be prepared for either. Both routes (road and trail) are fairly simple
out-and-backs. Sometimes we go up the trail, and down the road. The
road route is ~5 minutes longer to/from Windy Saddle. Bring a watch so
you know when to turn around. Sunset is at 7:22; civil twilight at
7:49. If you haven't run here before, PLEASE READ THE MAP & ROUTE
DESCRIPTION.

I am not sure where on the mtn we will do the hill repeats. The forecast, though
warm, is for 20-25mph winds. There are several good hill locations to choose
from there. Based on conditions and wind direction, I'll pick a location that's
somewhat sheltered. If you are late, you can call my cell phone to find us,
303-870-0487.

Bring a wind breaker or warm top for the warm-up and cool-down. Bring
water, if you want, to drink between the repeats. You can leave the
jacket and water on the side of the trail where we do the workout.
Bring dry clothes to chang into after the run.

I'm calling off the Sharptail Ridge run tomorrow (Sunday 3/25/2007).
I didn't go out there, but I believe there has been enough rain that
the trail will be in bad shape; The mud on that trail is the kind that
sticks to your shoes and the fact that horses use it doesn't help.

Perhaps later in the year.

Hi, I'm Scott McFarlane and I run with the 5:30 group on Thursday nights.

I'll check the Sharptail Ridge trail on Saturday if we end up getting rain; this
trail doesn't drain well. I'll send another message on Saturday if it's
cancelled.

-- For those not running the Bataan Death March Memorial at White
Sands on Sunday,

We ran Sharptail Ridge last year in March. The trailhead is located
on Roxborough Park road South of Titan road (and Chatfield Lake) and
east of the entrance to Roxborough Park. We'll start the run at 9:00
this Sunday morning.

To get there from the east:

Take 85 (S Santa Fe) south from C-470 to W Titan Rd. Go west until
you get to N Roxborough Park Rd. Turn left (South) and continue until
you find the trailhead which is just before a 90 degree turn in the road.

From the west:

Take Wadsworth south from C-470 past Chatfield lake and turn left on
Waterton road just before Lockheed Martin. Follow Waterton road past
the Waterton Canyon parking lot to N Rampart Range Rd. Turn right
(south) on N Rampart Range road and follow it to N Roxborough Park Rd.
Turn left (east) there past the Roxborough state park entrance and
follow the road just past the 90 degree turn where you'll find the
trailhead on your right.

A google map with the approximate trailhead location is available here:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=39.45289,+-105.05474+(Sharptail%20Ridge%20Trai
lhead)&iwloc=A&hl=en

Info and a map are available at:

http://www.douglas.co.us/openspace/Sharptail_Ridge_Trail_System.html

The run would be an out and back with a loop at the end depending on
how far you would like to run. The loop is called the Swallowtail
trail. This trail is approximately 4.4 miles from the trailhead and
the full loop is about 3.3 miles. This loop can be short-circuited in
the middle (upper and lower loops) for a slightly shorter run. Based
on these, the full run would be 12.1 miles but any shorter distance
could be run since it is an out and back. You can get to the Colorado
Trail from there so longer runs are available :).

Hope to see you there this Sunday.

Scott McFarlane

THURSDAY RUN

left to the lot. The main group starts at 6:15pm; the early group
meets at 5:30pm.

Run notes: This is a good run for beginners. It's one of the flatter

TUESDAY SPEED
Tuesday evening speed work returns next week, weather permitting. It's like a
track workout, but on trails. We do the hard stuff on uphill or low-technical
flat trails (no sprinting down Falcon or the Hogback). We stay in a contained
area, short loops, so that everyone stays close regardless of speed. All
abilities are welcome. You gotta train faster if you wanna get faster.

The early season will focus more on strength - hill sprints and short intervals.
Later on, we'll start adding some longer intervals. We may try some bike/run
combo intervals (optional) for those training for Xterra races.

Welcome to the 8th season of the Denver Trail Runners (DTR). Has it
really been that long? What started as a small group of friends, and
have grown to over 1,300 (on the list). Wow!

Where/who are all of you? Come out and join us. What would happen if
1,300 show up for a run? We'll worry about that when/if it does
happen. Typically, we get about a dozen over the winter, and 30-40
over the summer. If you can't make it on Thursday evenings, suggest
another day/time. With 1,300+ people, there's plenty of time for other
group runs in DTR.

Want to learn more about DTR? Read the story/interviews in this
month's Rocky Mountain Sports Magazine.

Reminder: DTR is self-service. This includes joining, leaving, and
changing your e-mail. Follow the instructions at the bottom of every
group message, and at the Yahoo site.

THURSDAY RUN
Location: Hogback/Matthews Winters. This has become the traditional
location for our season kickoff. The main group starts at 6:15pm; the
early group meets at 5:30pm.

If it rains, the run will be moved to Red Rocks, start at 6:25. This will give
you time to check in at the Hogback first. Red Rocks is a short drive. Turn left
when exiting the Stegosaurus lot. Go ~1-mile down the hill. Turn right into Red
Rocks. Follow the signs to the Trading Post.

Run notes: If you haven't run here before, PLEASE READ THE MAP & ROUTE
DESCRIPTION. Remember to bring a watch. Sunset is at 7:07; civil
twilight at 7:37. Make sure you finish before it gets dark. If you are
a slower runner, consider starting in the reverse and going
out-and-back on the Matthews Winters side only. If you start on the
hogback and it takes you 30 min (starting with the main group) to get
to the road, you should turn around and retrace your route back to the
start; you won't make the loop before dark. If it takes you 35 min to
get to the second road crossing, where you enter Red Rocks, you should
skip the rest of the trail and run up the road to the finish.

THURSDAY RUN
Location: South Table Mtn. Meet at the NREL lot. The main group starts
at 6:15pm; the early group meets at 5:30pm.

Run notes: PLEASE READ THE MAP & ROUTE DESCRIPTION. There are no trail
signs, very few landmarks, and tons of unofficial trails. The route
description is good, although the map doesn't reflect some of the
trail changes. I'll try to get it updated by Thursday, but no
promises. The NW section of the top is private property. We need to
respect that and stay off of the purple and green marked trails. In
the middle section, we will follow the blue line, not the parallel red
line (it's behind a fence). If you are new, we'll try to make sure you
have someone experienced to run with, and/or stop and regroup.

Mtn Bike: Meet at 4:45pm and mtn bike for about an hour.

Sunset is at 6:00 pm; end civil twilight is at 6:27. Daylight Savings
Time begins this Sunday morning. We should be able to complete our
runs without lights starting next week.

with staggered start times for the different categories. You can check

We will still meet at Green Mtn today. We will run the trail if it
hasn't warmed up, melted and got muddy. If we go on trail, be prepared
for your feet to get cold and wet. Alternatively, we will run a road
course from there. Either way, it is supposed to be windy. Dress
accordingly and bring eye protection.

Road alternate: Head up the path from the parking lot, and across the
bridge over C470 to the bike path. Go right, down the paved path,
~2mi, to Morrison. Go right on Morrison Rd, into the town. You are
better off crossing the road and taking the bike path. Then:

Short: Just as you enter the town, stay right at the Y, before the
white, spanish building. Run up the road ~1.5mi. Please keep your
light on and run facing traffic for safety. Take the first road on the
right, up and over the hogback. On the other side, at the bottom of
the hill, take a left on Rooney Rd. It's ~1/3mi up to the parking lot.

Intermediate/long: Continue through the town of Morrison, past the two
traffic lights, ~200 yards past the elementary school. take the next
right into Red Rocks. Follow the roads up through Red Rocks to the
road over the hogback. Experienced runners will know the way. If there
are newer DTRs, please wait at key intersections and help guide them.

THURSDAY RUN
Location: Green Mtn, Rooney Road lot. The main group starts at 6:15pm;
the early group meets at 5:30pm.

Run notes: This will be our first time on a real trail in a long time.
Be prepared for a variety of conditions. Reports are that the trail is
dry and in good conditions. We'll see what happens with the storm on
Wed. If there is significant accumulation, the run will be changed to
Red Rocks. Check for a message on Thursday, or use your judgment.
If/when you encounter mud, please stay on the trail – either run
through or jump over the mud. Do not go off trail! This expands the
trail footprint, leading to increased erosion. PLEASE READ THE

bottom of the hill, at the light, at hwy 65, turn left, then right

Registration for Pikes Peak is this this Thursday, March 1. This is
for both the Ascent (Aug 18) and the Marathon (Aug 19). Registration opens at
8:00am. I suspect that both races will fill within a few hours.

In order to get in, you need to be online at 8:00am MST. I'm guessing
that the servers will be overloaded at 8:00am, so you may need to
reload the page numerous times to get in. So, even if you are online
at 8:00am, it may take a while until you can actually register. And,
even then, you may still get shut out.

Let us know if you want help registering - you want to register for
the races, but are unable to dedicate a few hours on Thursday morning.
And, let us know if you are able to be online and help others to
register on Thursday.

FEATURED RACES
*2/25; Run the Register Stair Climb
Denver Trail Runners is putting together teams for the race. The race
is up 47 floors, 1,014 steps, in the "Cash Register" building (Wells
Fargo Center), downtown Denver.

We can still use additional people for the DenverTrailRunners team.
Please sign up soon, and add yourself to the DTR team.

Running up 47 floors takes a bit longer than running a mile, and is a
lot harder. It will seem so easy at the start, but become very hard,
very quickly. Last year's winning time was 6:10 men, 6:41 women. There
will be lots of non-competitive entrants, so if you prefer to walk, or
just raise funds, please do so too.

*3/17; Run Through Time Marathon & Half Marathon; Salida. This is a
fun race almost all on dirt, with plenty of climbing. There is good
road and mountain biking too, depending on the weather.

THURSDAY RUN
Location: Lookout/Chimney Gulch. The main group starts at 6:15pm; the
early group meets at 5:30pm.

Run notes: You can run either the road or trail. The road is a good
option if you don't feel comfortable on a snow/ice covered trail at
night. There's not much traffic. Please bring reflective gear and/or
lights to make sure you are easily visible to cars. You'll need
traction devices (e.g., screwshoes) for the trail. Often, in the
winter, we'll go up the trail, then down on the road. We'll see how
the conditions are on Thursday. The road is almost a mile longer than
the trail, to/from Windy Saddle, so please judge your time accordingly.

The USA Cross Country Championships & World Cross Country Team Trials
is this Saturday, in Boulder. Most of the top US runners will be there.

Many of us are going to watch the races. I encourage you to join us.
We'll meet before the Open Women's race, at about 12:15. That race
starts at 12:30. We'll meet by the table (I don't think they'll have a
tent) for the US Trail Championship race (June 30, Steamboat),
Steamboat Running Series, and/or AATRA (All American Trail Running
Association). It'll all be at the same table; I'm not sure which of
these banners they'll have. If I'm not there, and you're not sure if
you're at the right place, ask for John Chapman (original DTR, now in
Steamboat), late 40s, dark hair, 5'10"-ish, and/or Nancy Hobbs (Exec
Dir of AATRA), very short, 40-ish.

After the races, we may do a group run in Boulder. Bring your running gear;
it'll probably be a dirt road run, not trails. We'll see what the interest is.
If we don't run, or maybe in addition to, we may go eat together in Boulder.
Meet back at the same table after the Open Men's race, that'll be about 2pm. If
the group doesn't decide to run together, or you want to run separately, I can
direct you to some good locations in Boulder.

There are six races at the event begin at 9am with the Master Women's
8k race, and finishing with the Open Men's 12k race at 1:15pm. The
course is a spectator friendly 2k loop.

Race details and directions at http://www.boulder2007.com/

The event is supposed to be shown on ESPN2 on Sunday. More info about
that, as well as a contest to predict the winners, at

THURSDAY RUN
Location: Bear Creek Lake Park (T1, P1, N2). Early group meets at

Run notes: We'll probably stick to the road and bike path again, but
we'll see how much the snow melts and how wet the trails are.

Join us this Saturday, Feb. 3, for snowshoeing at Deer Creek. Meet by the trail
map, ready to start at 9am.

Expect it to be cold, but bright and sunny. The forecast calls for
blustery winds. However, once we get up the trail a bit and into the
trees, Deer Creek is pretty well protected. Deer Creek holds snow well
in the winter, and I've gotten reports that the snowshoeing has been
good there. There are lots of trees, so it will be colder in the shade.

Dress in layers. Wear gaitors - I expect the snow to be fairly deep
higher up. Wear warm shoes, perhaps waterproof, with warm socks.

We'll decide how long, and at what effort, as a group, at the start.
I'm guessing we'll be out about 2-2.5 hours, but there will be options
to go longer or shorter. I'd like to get up to the Red Mesa loop. It's
a lot slower going in the snow, so you can't compare your running times there.
Once we get up higher, where we're breaking trail, it's fairly easy to keep a
diverse group together on snowshoes. The stronger runners will do the extra work
breaking the trail, and the slower runners can follow behind with much less
effort.

I do have some extra snowshoes. I'll reserve them for the first people
who respond at this address, runuphillracing@...

ratings, please follow the link below to maps, route descriptions,

Thursday's full moon run will begin at 6:15pm. Sorry for missing that
in the original message. I'll have to fine the author and editor. :)

When you get there, park along the side of the road, to the left of
the "Y". Then, meet at the "Y", at the bottom of the hill, for the start of the
run.

THURSDAY RUN
Location: Chief Hosa (T1, P2, N2). Full Moon 10:46pm; moon rise 4:54 pm.

Run notes: This is a full moon run. That means a social run, not a
workout. We will try to keep everyone together, and stop and regroup
at key intersections. It should be a very easy pace for faster
runners; a comfortable pace for intermediate runners; slower runners
might have to run somewhat hard, but we will wait for you.

Traditional route: Start up the road to the right of the "Y". There's
a 3-way junction about 2/3 mi up. REMEMBER THIS JUNCTION FOR THE WAY
BACK. You come to a paved road 2 mi up. Go left on the paved road.
Cross the chain after ¼ mi, onto the dirt road. It's another 1mi+ to
the top. This section may be covered with snow. There's a dirt lot at
the top. At the far end, take the short trail up to the flagpole.

Return back down the same way. For faster runners, at the 3-way
junction (mentioned above), go right. This road drops steeply to I-70.
Follow the road left at the bottom, and continue to the finish. This
way is about ¾ longer. Slower runners should stay left at the 3-way,
and return the same way you started. Please pay attention. It's easy
to end up going the longer way by mistake.

The road to the top may have too much snow and may be un-runable.
Kendra will give us a road conditions report. In that case, at the
paved road, go right instead. Run down the hill until you are about 30
minutes from the start. Then, turn around, run back to the paved/dirt
junction, go left, and return to the finish.

FEATURED RACES
*2/25; Run the Register Stair Climb
Denver Trail Runners is putting together teams for the race. The race
is up 47 floors, 1,014 steps, in the "Cash Register" building (Wells
Fargo Center), downtown Denver.

There's a practice session on Feb. 11. You must be registered in
advance, and must RSVP, to participate in the practice session, Only
the first 400 will be allowed to the practice session. We still need
people to sign up for the DenverTrailRunners team. Please sign up
soon, and add yourself to the DTR team.

Justin Little is leading the team, and will coordinate a DTR group for
the Feb. 11 practice session. If you have registered for the race, and
signed up for the practice session, please contact Justin at
big_jlittle@...

Running up 47 floors is a bit longer than running a mile, and a lot
harder. Last year's winning time was 6:10 men, 6:41 women. If you can
run 1 mile faster than about 6:50, you should sign up in the "elite"
category. That allows you to start early, so you won't have to fight
your way around lots of slower walkers. There will be lots of
non-competitive entrants, so if you prefer to walk, or just raise
funds, please do so too.
