This week's run is at Lair o' the Bear. The early group meets at 5:30pm; the
main group starts at 6:15pm. Meet at the parking lot.

Directions: The following is a link to a map and directions to Lair o' the Bear.

Run notes: If you are not familiar with the trails, please review the map in
advance. Link to map at
http://dtr.runuphillracing.com/Maps/Lair-o-the-Bear.html.

DTR runs are not races. We ask the faster runners to start slowly, to keep the
group together for the first few minutes. After that, we spread out and
naturally form smaller sub-groups and run different routes. The different routes
are designed so that runners of different abilities can start and finish at
about the same time. Please pick the appropriate route for you. Don't
necessarily follow the people in front of you. The sub-groups/routes are
approximately defined as follows:
5: sub-40 10km (road race time, not the pace run at DTR runs)
4: low-mid 40s 10km
3: high 40s to mid 50s 10km
2: mid 50s to low 60s 10km
1: mid 60s+

We ask experienced runners to wait at key intersections to help guide newer
runners.

Bring warm and dry clothing for after the run. Even in the summer, it cools off
quickly in the canyons when the sun goes down.

Everyone is invited to join us for dinner after the run. We will pick a nearby
restaurant.

Carpool: If you are interested in sharing a ride to/from any of the DTR runs,
please post a message on our Facebook page,

Hi my name is Dennis Vanderheiden founder and President of Athletes in Tandem, Inc  a 501 c 3 non profit located here in Fort Collins, CO.  We are hosting three trail races this year to benefit our mission of competing with and inspiring challenged athletes to participate in running events and triathlons in, primarily, Colorado but also throughout the country.

We would like to invite you to check out our races.

First up is a new event we're calling Courting Towers on June 2, 2012. It's an 8 mile and 12.5 mile courtship of challenging ascents, rugged terrain and scenic overlooks running one of Fort Collins' most treasured hills (Towers Road) for testing ones strength and stamina. The race begins and ends in the Soderberg Open Space in Horsetooth Mountain Park. The 8 mile race presents 1772 feet of vertical gain while the 12.5 mile gives you 3009 feet of climbing to look forward to.

Look for "Courting Towers" on Facebook for photos taking you through the course.

Trail map:
http://dtr.runuphillracing.com/Maps/GudyGaskillTrail-route.html
If you are not familiar with the trails, please review the map in advance.
This trail is easier to get lost on. Especially pay attention to where the
intersection marked with an "E". Make sure you turn there or you'll end up
running to Golden.
If you won't be staying with a main group, make sure you either know your way or
you have a trail buddy who knows the route.

Run notes:
Short - Going counter-clockwise, skip GG, turn left on the Beaver Brook trail
and just proceed to the climb.
Med - Start CC, turn right onto BB until you reach the east end of the Gudy
Gaskill trail. At the end of GG, turn left, rather than right up the climb.
Follow the service road all the way up. Shortly after going around the chain,
make a sharp right on Centennial Trail road. Follow the road back to school.
Long - Start CC, turn right onto BB until you reach the east end of the Gudy
Gaskill trail. At the end of GG, turn left, rather than right up the climb.
Start up the service road. May take trails off to the right on the way back, the
way we usually start the run.
If you are not familiar with the trails, please review the map in advance.

We usually suggest several routes of different length at each run. The different
routes are designed so that runners of different abilities can start and finish
at about the same time. Please pick the appropriate route for you. Don't
necessarily follow the people in front of you. The sub-groups/routes are
approximately defined as follows:
Extra-Long: sub-40 10km (road race time, not the pace run at DTR runs)
Long: low-mid 40s 10km
Intermediate: high 40s to mid 50s 10km
Short: mid 50s+ 10km

intersections to help guide newer runners.

Hey all,

Iffy weather this weekend, so we'll just meet and do Fairmount Trail.  Nice gravel trail so we can run it no matter the weather without having to resort to pounding pavement.

We'll start at Tony Grampsas and head out towards the reservoir and back.  I think the North Table Mtn trail construction is still going on, so I believe that the connection to the top is closed.  But we should get a good 7-8 miles in, and I am sure we can find a way to extend it for anyway who needs more mileage.

All abilities are welcome, as always.  The trail is out and back, so you can choose any distance that suits you.

*Meeting Spot*
Meet at Tony Grampsas Sports Complex at 8:00am.  North of 44th on Salvia.  Park by the baseball fields.  Map here.

Hope to see you all this weekend!

Even in the summer, it cools off
quickly in the canyons once the sun goes down.

Everyone is invited to join us for dinner after the run. We will pick a nearby
restaurant.

Carpool: If you are interested in sharing a ride to/from any of the DTR runs,

Alternate route to O'Fallon that avoids traffic on C470 and through Morrison
(there's a concert at Red Rocks tonight). Take I70 to exit 256, take a left over
hwy, then left onto frontage road, follow Grapevine over the hill to hwy 74,
right 3.6mi to the park. See map at

Hey everyone!

We are going to visit Elk Meadow in Evergreen this weekend for our Sunday morning run.  We'll start from the SE trailhead off of Hwy 74 and Lewis Ridge Rd.  The run will be 1.5 - 2hrs, but we will have various options for shorter or longer distances.  As always, all ability levels are welcome and we'll stop at points along the way to make sure no one gets lost or left behind.

Meeting Spot options:
1. Meet us at the SE trailhead (see map) at 7:30am
2. Carpool - Meet at the T-Rex lot off I-70 (map) to carpool at 7:00am

We'll probably adjourn to the Bagelry for post-run revelry and refueling after the run.

Good luck to everyone doing the Dirty Thirty this weekend!

XTERRA Beaver Creek Trail Run set for July 15

Top runners will earn free entry to World Championship race

June 15, 2012 – The second annual XTERRA Beaver Creek Trail Run is set for July 15 at the picturesque Beaver Creek Resort in Avon, Colorado.

This year’s XTERRA Beaver Creek Trail Run is open to runners of all ages and skill levels, and the race will offer points for the 2012 XTERRA Colorado Trail Run Series.

BeaverCreekStart2011.JPGTwo courses will be offered – a 21-kilometer long course and a 10K course. For the first time, the 21K race will serve as a qualifier for the 2012 XTERRA Trail Run World Championship. Every age-group winner from the XTERRA Beaver Creek Trail Run 21K will receive a free entry to race at the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship, which is scheduled for December 2 at Kualoa Ranch, Hawaii.

The courses at Beaver Creek/Bachelor Gulch wowed runners last year with its breathtaking views, and challenging climbs and descents. “This run had a little bit of everything - up, down, rolling single-track through aspen forests and incredible views of the valley all around," said Marc Lonac, who won the 21K race last year.

The Beaver Creek Trail Runs will be held one day after the XTERRA Mountain Championship off-road triathlon, so many of the world’s elite triathletes will be on site, and a few may even stick around to enter the trail run.

The 21K course offers a full 13.1 off-road miles, with a mix of single and double track terrain, gaining approximately 2,400 feet of elevation throughout the distance. In the 10K race, athletes will retrace the full XTERRA off-road triathlon run course from the day before, gaining approximately 1,300 feet of elevation.

The XTERRA Beaver Creek Trail Run will be the fourth of five races in the 2012 XTERRA Colorado Trail Run Series. Points are awarded to the top runners at each race in the series. At the conclusion of the season in August, each age-group champion from the overall series standings will earn a free entry to represent Colorado at the 2012 XTERRA Trail Run National Championship in Utah this September.

To register online for the Beaver Creek Trail Run, or to learn more about it, please visit http://www.xterraplanet.com/xduro/beavercreek.html.
