We are running again this Wed  at Green Mountain if anyone is interested in joining us. We will be running from the Florida lot on Alameda at 5pm on Wed.

The Florida lot/trailhead is marked FLA on the map at the following link:

http://dtr.runuphillracing.com/Maps/GreenMtn.html .

I will be driving a Red Blazer. We will be running 45 mins to 1 hour at a conversational pace and meet up along the trail if we get spread out, no one gets left behind.  Due to the time change this past weekend make sure that you bring a light, some of our run will be in the dark.  We will also talk about moving the run from 5pm to 4:30pm to try and take advantage of what little daylight we can for the next 2 months.  If you have any thoughts on this and can not make the Wed run drop me an e-mail.

Come on out and join us. Feel free to drop me an e-mail if you have any questions.

Shad

Hello everyone. I qualified for Boston at the Denver Marathon. I have
registered for the race but am seeking a fellow, male, runner to split
hotel costs. I am planning on staying Sunday and Monday nights. I am
thinking about looking for a hotel on the T, so I can get to the start,
finish, expo, etc. without a car, but also without paying the price for
a downtown hotel. I have made no room reservations at this time, but
will be doing that soon. We can discuss details if you are
interested.

Thanks,

Eric

This week's run is at Red Rocks. Meet at the Trading Post. The early
group starts at 5:30pm. The main group starts at 6:00pm.

After this week, we will move the start time of the main group back to
6:15pm. We'll maintain this until daylight savings time starts again.

Run Notes: There are both road and trail options. Anyone running the
trail should bring a light. The Matthews Winters trails are pretty
rocky in places. The RR roads are mostly traffic free and have some
nice hills.

For more info about lighting, read the great info Jeff put together
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/DenverTrailRunners/message/1043

DTR runs are not races. Once we're into the run, we spread out and
naturally form smaller sub-groups. Please regroup at key
intersections. Those experienced DTRs, please help guide the newer
runners.

Bring warm and dry clothing for after the run. It cools off quickly
once the sun goes down.

Everyone is invited to join us for dinner after the run. After the
run, we will pick a nearby restaurant to go to.

Carpool: There's a regular carpool group for those of you who live or
work near downtown. Meet at the corner of 9th and Elati, by Denver
West High School, at 5:10 each Thursday. We will alternate who drives.

We are moving the run this week to APEX if anyone is interested in joining us. We have decided that about once or twice a month we will be moving the run from Green Mountain to other trails that are close by.  We will be running from the main lower lot at 5pm on Wed.  The route will be decided on the group that shows up.

This week's run is at Lookout/Chimney Gulch. The early group starts at
5:30pm. The main group starts at 6:00pm.

Parking notes: Meet in the dirt lot, at the first horseshoe curve,
just past the pillars. There's a bathroom at the park, just down from
the pillars.

Run Notes: Lookout offers both trail and road routes. Over the winter,
sometimes, we'll go up via the trail, and down via the road. This is a
good option for those without lights or uncomfortable on trails at
night. Road traffic is fairly light. Sunset is at 6:10, twilight ends
at 6:37, so everyone should be able to make it up the trail to Windy
Saddle before dark. This is an out-and-back route, so use your watch
to determine when to turn around. The road route is ~0.8mi longer
to/from Windy Saddle, so take that into account when judging your turn
around time. You might want to bring a light even if you are going to
run the road. At least wear reflective gear. Lighting is as much about
being seen as it is about seeing.

For more info about lighting, read the great info Jeff put together

Ashley and I will be leading a long run this Saturday at CenteCentennial Cone is one of the newer OS parks in the Jeffco system, with really nice trails, just ~10mi W of Golden. The loop we are doing is 12.7 miles according to my GPS, we checked it out this past weekend.  You can add on more smaller loops or another out and back if you want to go longer.   Ashley and I are going to take our time and expect to complete this loop in about 2.5 hours, so fast and slow people are all welcomed.

We will meet by the Loaf 'n Jug, just off Iowa and hwy 93, in Golden, to carpool at 8:30am Saturday the 25th.  This should put us at the trailhead around 9am and hopefully back in Golden around noon.  You can meet us in either location.  We will only wait about 5mins or so in Golden before heading up.

We will be starting at the north access trailhead which I have copied the directions from the website:

North Access --Take Colorado Hwy. 93 north from Golden approximately one mile to Golden Gate Canyon Rd. Travel west about 8 miles to Robinson Hill Rd. Travel west about eight miles to Robinson Hill Rd. Turn left and continue to Camino Perdido, the north access road into the park. The trailhead is approximately one mile to the south.

Feel free to drop me an e-mail if you have any questions.

Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns or comments

or incidences you've had with other park users - hikers, bikers or
equestrians.

Other agenda items for this meeting are:

Biker issues at Lair 'o the Bear
Special Activity Permits (events, large groups, shelter rentals)
Pending project updates: Centennial Cone, North Table, Lair 'o the
Bear, Crown Hill, Hildebrand, Elk Meadow dog off-leash area.

Anyone is welcome to attend the meeting. I encourage it to show

Thursday runs continue year round. Neither rain, nor snow, nor ice,
nor wind, nor dark, shall keep us from our appointed runs. We do
modify some of our run locations through the winter. We've been
introducing some of our frequent winter running locations in October.
The next three weeks are at locations that have both trail and road
options. This allows you to choose your route based on snow, ice, mud,
and lighting. Subject to change, based on weather and trail conditions:
This Thursday - Bear Creek Lake Park
Next Thursday - Lookout
Oct. 30 - Red Rocks/Matthew Winters

Yes we do still run when it's cold and snowy. Some of our most
memorable runs have been in the snow. There are way to deal with the
ice beyond traction devices that you buy in stores (e.g., YakTrax).
Many of us make screwshoes. We'll send out more info on this later,
and may even have a screwshoe making event. For now, read the info at

Concerning data for a research project...

This is from Rhonna Krouse from Boise, ID. I am contacting you because
I am currently completing my thesis on the motivational patters and
goal orientation of women ultrarunners. I am seeking women
ultrarunners to participate in a web-based survey, which takes about
fifteen minutes. The web site is
http://www.bkrousedemographics.com/RZL/ultrarunning.html
There you will find an abstract of my research and a link to the
survey. I am hoping to get to as many women as humanly possible
because the population is pretty small. The survey will be open until
November 1st.

Thanks for your help!

Rhonna

This week's run is at Bear Creek Lake Park. The early group starts at
5:30pm. The main group starts at 6:00pm.

Parking notes: Meet in the large, dirt lot, at the corner of Rooney
and Morrison roads. Once the perimeter spots are full, several cars
can fit in the middle. Additional parking is available alongside
Rooney road, just up from the dirt lot. Bathroom is across Rooney rd,
in the gas station.

Run Notes: If you're new to this run, please print and bring the map.
BCLP can be confusing. Please stop and regroup at key junction, and,
if you know the trails there, help guide the newer runners.

We run counter clockwise. Faster runners usually climb up Mt. Carbon,
and loop around the back side of the dam. If you're not up with the
faster runners, please don't follow them up Mt. Carbon. Instead,
please stay low and take the road across the base, on the W side of
the dam.

If you're not comfortable running at night and don't have a light,
once you make it to the base of Mt. Carbon, you can take roads all the
way back. Sunset is at 6:19pm; twilight ends at 6:46pm. Some of you
may want to consider bringing lights. For more info about lighting,
read the great info Jeff put together
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/DenverTrailRunners/message/1043

DTR runs are not races. Once we're into the run, we spread out and
naturally form smaller sub-groups.

We will alternate who
drives. The link below has a map.

Hi Julia,

Thought you might be interested to hear that we organize annual races to the North Pole and are bringing about 40 US residents from throughout the States into Denver on October 18th to compete at a Selection Day to win a place on the US team racing to the Pole in April 2009. This race is on the 100-year anniversary of the first explorers to reach the Pole, Americans Peary & Henson.

We are holding a presentation on the race in The Irish Snug, 1201 E. Colfax Avenue, Denver on Wednesday, October 15 at 7 pm. You and members of the Denver Trail Runners would be very welcome. No admission, no requirement to buy anything, just a bit of fun.

Cheers,

Noel

Ben and I are running again this Wed 10/15 at Green Mountain if anyone is interested in joining us. We will be running from the Florida lot on Alameda at 5pm on Wed. The Florida lot/trailhead is marked FLA on the map at the following link:

http://dtr.runuphillracing.com/Maps/GreenMtn.html . I will be driving a Red Blazer and I believe Ben has a silver Civic. We will be running 45 mins to 1 hour at a conversational pace and meet up along the trail if we get spread out, no one gets left behind. Come on out and join us. Feel free to drop me an e-mail if you have any questions.
