I want your comments about the Jefferson County (Jeffco) Open Space
(OS) trails and parks.
Tue, Oct 23, is the next OS Trail Users Task Force (TUTF) meeting. The
TUTF is a chance to share user comments with OS board and staff, and
work on conflicts with other users. I am one of the "hiker" (meant to
include runners and others who use the trails on foot)
representatives. There are also bike and equestrian representatives. I
will use this opportunity to share your comments. Jeffco OS is very open to
public voices. The more comments I get, the more impact it will have.
Specifically, I want to know:
What you like about the Jeffco OS trails and parks.
What you don't like about them.
Questions you have about them.
Ideas or suggestions.
Conflicts you've had with other users. It would help if you could provide
specific details, such as incident location, date, time and comments, if
possible, rather than just a generic comment like "I don't like ..."
The questions below come from one of the other hiker representatives.
Please take a minute or two to answer them.
Please respond to this address (not one of my others), and don't change the
subject line.
Thanks
Adam
Survey:
A-Do you think a 5 mph passing rule for bikes would significantly
ease conflict if they would really do it? (or optimistically, at
least the majority) Some other open space parks around the country are
trying this. Its admittedly difficult to enforce.
B-Do you believe there is a need for more separated use or
hiker/equestrian only trails to provide a different kind of
recreational experience than you get on a multiple use trail?
If so, which of the following would you support:
1-more alternate day trails at new parks, like Centennial Cone?
2-adding to the Turkey Trot Trail (hiker only) at Mt Falcon to make it
a longer trail and a loop?
3- Building a second parallel trail up the canyon at Apex to separate use?
4-Making Mt Lindo a hiker only park like Galbraith?
5-Closing one existing loop trail from the upper trailhead at White
Ranch to bikes? (Seems like there are enough options there, they could
give one up?)
6-Building a hiker only trail at Mathews-Winters utilizing the power
line route in part and making a loop back around to the north?
7-Building a downhiller bike course somewhere on Open Space (OS) in an
effort to lure some of the downhill bikers from parks like Apex.
8-Building some well designed and challenging bike trails in the OS
lands near Boulder (Coal Creek Canyon area) to attempt to get the
Boulder bikers to go there instead of places like White Ranch?
9-Make those areas along Coal creek hiker/equestrian only parks.
10-Make the OS area north of Bear Creek and west and south of Mt
Morrison a hiker/equestrian only park.
What would be your top 3?
Any others you think should be considered?
Please indicate if you are a hiker, principally a runner, or a hiker
and biker (equal more or less), an equestrian, or a biker principally
as well.
Thanks!
