TUESDAY SPEED
This week's speed workout will be at Bear Creek Lake Park. Meet at the
dirt lot, outside the park, at 6:00pm.
Workout: We will be running flat trails, focusing on speed and leg
turnover. I know it's supposed to be hot. We'll be in the trees and
shade, and along the creek, most of the time.
These workouts are for runners of all abilities. (The only exception
is for beginning runners or those coming back after a long lay-off.
You should build a good base, with lower effort, and gradually longer
runs, before you start doing speed work.) The group stays in a compact
area (e.g., short loop or out-and-back), so no one will get left
behind. We run for time, not distance, so we'll start and finish
together. The route is designed typically with the hard efforts on
climbs and/or non-technical terrain; descents and rocky terrain will
be easy efforts. The purpose is to combine track-like speed workouts
with power training for hills.
The speed workouts will take place every week, as long as there is
interest. Sometimes there will be a separate e-mail with the workout
info, Mon evening, or Tue during the day.

THURSDAY RUN & PICNIC
Run Location: Lair `o the Bear. The main group will start at 6:15pm;
the early group at 5:30pm.
Run notes: This is an out-and-back run. Please bring a watch and use
time to decide where/when to turn around. It'll be faster coming back.
Please finish by 7:30 so we can enjoy the picnic in daylight.
If you raced Pikes, Leadville, or something else last weekend and
don't want to run, come out and do an easy hike along the creek. It's
scenic, cool, and soaking your legs in the water will help your
recovery. Or, just show up later for the picnic. We want to hear how
your races went.
Picnic: Everyone is invited to the picnic, even if you can't run, or
forget to bring food. There's always extra food available. This is a
good time for newer runners to meet us old timers, and vice-versa.
Suggestions of things to bring: hot or cold main dishes, pasta/green
salads, fruit, side dishes, desserts, drinks (e.g., beer, wine, sodas,
juice), etc. There are grills available. If anyone wants to be in
charge of grilling, please let us know in advance so we tell others to
bring appropriate food.
Bring dry and warm clothes for after the run. It cools quickly after
sunset, down by the creek.
Tentative schedule:
8/30; Falcon, UPPER LOT
9/6; Apex
9/13; O'Fallon
9/20; Lookout/Chimney Gulch. Potluck at Gayle & Rueben's after the run.

SATURDAY EVERGREEN
The Evergreen Runners Circle (ERC) holds FREE runs every Saturday,
8:30am, on trails, in the Evergreen area. Several DTR regulars join
these runs. The ERC runs are typically about 60 minutes long. They
usually go out for coffee/breakfast afterwards. Please forward your

SATURDAY AT ALTITUDE
We'll run at altitude, staying on this side of the divide. The run
will be fairly easy and short, about 1:30. It's time to start tapering
for Breck Crest, Imogene, etc. Details to follow later in the week.
SUNDAY GOLDEN
Golden weekend runs are Sundays at 7:30 a.m. Meet outside Brooks
Field, CSM Stadium, on 12th Street in Golden, and run on one of six or
more different routes in the Golden area. All of the courses allow for
varying lengths (e.g. 6-14+ miles) and paces, depending on the
interests of the runners on that day. For further information contact
Ron Benioff at rnbenioff@... 303-279-6152.
Interested in another weekday or weekend group run? Pick a time and

BROKEN FOOT
"Hi friends,
I'm Erik Von Halle of Golden Colorado and I've been out a few times
with the group.
I have a Jones fracture of the fifth metatarsil on my right foot
from hiking in some tennis shoes. I thought it was just fallen arches
at first but it's been months and it isn't getting better. I am now in
an ankle brace and I'm doing much better but it looks like it's going
to be six weeks before I recover.
Have any of you had an injury like this? What treatment did you get
and how was your recovery?
ERIK
You can reply off group to me at erikvonhalle@... if you prefer."
