Week of Aug 6

IN THIS WEEK'S MESSAGE:
+ Tuesday speed workout
+ Thursday evening run and potluck
+ Other DTR affiliated runs: Sat Evergreen, Sun Golden
+ Carpools: Georgetown
+ Race volunteers needed
+ Leadville pacers/crew needed
+ Race calendar
+ Other area clubs and runs
+ Discounts for DTRs

TUESDAY SPEED
This week's speed workout will be at Green Mtn. Meet at the Rooney
Road lot at 6:00pm.

Workout: There will be two workouts, depending on who shows up. For
those doing Pikes and Leadville (and other races in the next week or
two), the workout will be some short sprints focusing on leg turnover.
For those doing Imogene, Breck Crest, and other races further off, the
workout will be a series of longer intervals, with hard efforts both
up and down.

These workouts are for runners of all abilities. (The only exception
is for beginning runners or those coming back after a long lay-off.
You should build a good base, with lower effort, and gradually longer
runs, before you start doing speed work.) The group stays in a compact
area (e.g., short loop or out-and-back), so no one will get left
behind. We run for time, not distance, so we'll start and finish
together. The route is designed typically with the hard efforts on
climbs and/or non-technical terrain; descents and rocky terrain will
be easy efforts. The purpose is to combine track-like speed workouts
with power training for hills.

The speed workouts will take place every week, as long as there is
interest. Sometimes there will be a separate e-mail with the workout
info, Mon evening, or Tue during the day.

THURSDAY RUN & POTLUCK
Run Location: North Table Mtn. The main group will start at 6:15pm;
the early group at 5:30pm.

If you're coming via I-70 from the Denver area, take hwy 58 W, between
N & S Table Mtn. Take the Boyd St. exit. Follow the road as it turns
right. Take the first left, down the hill. Turn right onto Ford and
take it ~1mi up the hill, until it ends. Turn right on Pine Ridge,
then the next left to the lot.

Run notes: There are no maps or trail signs. There aren't a lot of
trails to get lost on. If you haven't run here before, please bring a
copy of the map and route description. There is a long loop in the
middle, without a short cut. If you haven't reached the 3-way junction
(noted below) within 40 minutes, please turn around.

Faster runners may take a different way up from the start. Don't
necessarily follow them. Everyone will go by REGRP1. At the top, head
W on the service road. About where the 4WD mark is on the map, there's
another road that goes off to the left. Don't take it. Continue on the
main service road. At REGRP2, the road drops down the W side. Stay on
this road all the way around to the E side. On the N end, before the
MIDWAY point on the map, there's a 3-way junction. If you haven't
reached this point in 40 minutes, please consider turning around and
returning the way you came. If you're continuing, stay right there. On
the E side, you'll climb up a steep and narrow canyon. Please regroup
again after cresting the hill. Continue heading W, on a more gradual
uphill, towards the radio building. About ¾ mi after the crest, take
the trail to the left. This will take you back to the main service
road, which you can follow back to the cars.

There are no bathrooms or changing facilities at the run.

Potluck: After the run, there's tentatively a potluck at Gayle and
Ruben's, in Golden. Details and directions to follow later.

Tentative schedule:
8/16: Green Mtn.
8/23: Lair `o the Bear, picnic.

these runs. The ERC runs are typically about 60 minutes long. They
usually go out for coffee/breakfast afterwards. Please forward your
questions to Dave via the ERC link below. For more info about the ERC

SUNDAY GOLDEN
Golden weekend runs are Sundays at 7:30 a.m. Meet outside Brooks
Field, CSM Stadium, on 12th Street in Golden, and run on one of six or
more different routes in the Golden area. All of the courses allow for
varying lengths (e.g. 6-14+ miles) and paces, depending on the
interests of the runners on that day. For further information contact
Ron Benioff at rnbenioff@... 303-279-6152.

Interested in another weekday or weekend group run? Pick a time and
place, and we'll post it to the group.

I know a couple of people who are in need of pacers and/or crew for the

Most of the racers will be doing 10min pace at best on the flats, or walking.
Drop me note if interested.
