Imogene Pass Run registration opens June 1. This race will sell out
fast. Registration information will be posted at
http://www.imogenerun.com

The race is Sept 8. It's 17.1mi, from Ouray (7,810'), to Telluride
(8,820'), over Imogene Pass (13,120').

TUESDAY SPEED (mtn bike option)
This week's speed workout will be at Bear Creek Lake Park. It's a
repeat of last week's workout. Meet at the dirt lot, at the corner of
Morrison and Rooney Roads, at 6:00pm.

We'll jog out together to the base of the North Park Trail (see map).
Take the bike path into the park. Instead of going right at the first
bridge, stay straight on the bike path, onto the park road. Just past
the toll booth, stay left at the Y. Follow the road W for ~1mi. Just
before the road curves L and goes uphill, go left on the trail, cross
to the right of the creek, then meet at the 3-way trail junction. The
workout will be on a short trail loop from there. If the trails are
wet, we'll continue out the road to the Mountain View lot, and run
repeats on the hill to the top of the dam.

Mtn bike: Designed for people training for off-road tris/dus, but
anyone is welcome. Bring your mountain bike (as long as it's dry). You
will alternate between running and biking, with quick transitions, and
a slightly different loop for the bike. The loops are designed to
avoid conflicts between the runners and bikers.

The speed workouts will take place every week, as long as there is
interest. Sometimes there will be a separate e-mail with the workout
info, Mon evening, or Tue during the day.

These workouts are for runners of all abilities. (The only exception
is for beginning runners or those coming back after a long lay-off.
You should build a good base, with lower effort, and gradually longer
runs, before you start doing speed work.) The group stays in a compact
area (e.g., short loop or out-and-back), so no one will get left
behind. We run for time, starting and finishing together. The route is
designed typically with the hard efforts on climbs and/or
non-technical terrain; descents and rocky terrain will be easy
efforts. The purpose is to combine track-like speed workouts with
power training for hills.

THURSDAY RUN/PICNIC/BIKE
Run Location: South Valley Park. The main group will meet at 6:15pm;
the early group at 5:30pm. If you want to mountain bike before the
run, please be ready to ride by 5:15. You'll be able to get in a
~50minute ride, with time to change before the run.

Run notes: The Lyons Back trail is closed for construction. To add
some distance (those of you in the faster/longer groups), you can
either take the Rattlesnake Gulch Trail to Deer Creek and back, and/or
the Coyote Song trail to Deer Creek Cyn Road and back. Bring a watch
and monitor your time. Plan to finish between 7:20-7:30 so we'll have
enough daylight left for the picnic. Bring warm/dry clothes for after
the run. It cools quickly in the canyon.

Picnic: Stick around after the run for a potluck picnic at the park.
Bring food and drink to share with others. Plates, napkins, utensils,
cups, etc., will be provided. If you forget to bring food, please join
us anyway. There's almost always more than enough food. This is a good
chance to get to know more about your fellow runners than you can pick
up in a conversation while running uphill.

Things to bring: pasta/green salads, fruit, side dishes,
chips/veggies/dips, desserts, juice/sodas/beer/wine. Be creative, or
keep it simple. Make it yourself, or buy it already made. If you need
to shop, there are several markets (Safeway, King Soopers, Vitamin
Cottage) just E of C-470 on Ken Caryl Blvd, the same exit you use to
the run.
