DTR: Sharptail Ridge Sunday 3/25 9:00 AM   Message List

Hi, I'm Scott McFarlane and I run with the 5:30 group on Thursday nights.

I'll check the Sharptail Ridge trail on Saturday if we end up getting rain; this
trail doesn't drain well. I'll send another message on Saturday if it's
cancelled.

-- For those not running the Bataan Death March Memorial at White
Sands on Sunday,

We ran Sharptail Ridge last year in March. The trailhead is located
on Roxborough Park road South of Titan road (and Chatfield Lake) and
east of the entrance to Roxborough Park. We'll start the run at 9:00
this Sunday morning.

To get there from the east:

Take 85 (S Santa Fe) south from C-470 to W Titan Rd. Go west until
you get to N Roxborough Park Rd. Turn left (South) and continue until
you find the trailhead which is just before a 90 degree turn in the road.

From the west:

Take Wadsworth south from C-470 past Chatfield lake and turn left on
Waterton road just before Lockheed Martin. Follow Waterton road past
the Waterton Canyon parking lot to N Rampart Range Rd. Turn right
(south) on N Rampart Range road and follow it to N Roxborough Park Rd.
Turn left (east) there past the Roxborough state park entrance and
follow the road just past the 90 degree turn where you'll find the
trailhead on your right.

A google map with the approximate trailhead location is available here:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=39.45289,+-105.05474+(Sharptail%20Ridge%20Trai
lhead)&iwloc=A&hl=en

Info and a map are available at:

The run would be an out and back with a loop at the end depending on
how far you would like to run. The loop is called the Swallowtail
trail. This trail is approximately 4.4 miles from the trailhead and
the full loop is about 3.3 miles. This loop can be short-circuited in
the middle (upper and lower loops) for a slightly shorter run. Based
on these, the full run would be 12.1 miles but any shorter distance
could be run since it is an out and back. You can get to the Colorado
Trail from there so longer runs are available :).

Hope to see you there this Sunday.

Scott McFarlane
