Danelle Ballengee was seriously injured, and had an amazing rescue
last week.
Danelle slipped on ice, fell 60', breaking her pelvis, while running
the Amasa Back trail, in Moab, She was rescued two days later, when
her dog (and running companion) led the rescuers to her. There are
numerous stories on the web including:

THURSDAY RUN & SOLSTICE PARTY
Location: Rick, Christine, Christoph and Bobby's house, in Willow
Springs, just S of Morrison. See directions below.
Check back on Thursday for a possible change, due to weather and road
conditions. There will still be a run, but we may postpone the party.
Time: Start arriving at 6:00pm, to drop off food, change, etc. The run
will start between 6:20 – 6:30 pm.
Run notes: There will be an intermediate and long trail run. The route
will be marked with survey tape and glow sticks. There will also be a
road option. The trails may be icy. See the separate DTR Winter
message, posted later, for devices and tips for running on ice.
In case of heavy snow (Rick says that they usually get about twice as
much as Denver), this might end up being a snowshoe hike. 3"-6" can
make great running conditions, even better than a dry trail, just with
regular shoes. Bring your snowshoes if you want. There will be several
extra pair available to borrow.
Party: The hosts will be providing chili, both meat and veg. DTR will
provide plastic utensils, plates/bowls, napkins (paper), etc. Please
bring: beer/wine/soda/juice, salads, breads, side dishes, desserts.
You are welcome to come to the party whether or not you run that
night, and whether or not you can bring some food/drink. We always
have plenty to share.
Directions:
Take C470 to the Quincy exit.
From the N, go L at the end of the off ramp and head S.
From the S, go L at the end of the off ramp, over the hwy, and continue S.
The road ends at Belleview. Turn R.
Go ~1.5mi up the hill.
Just past the lake on the left, turn L on Willow Springs Drive.
Go over several speed bumps, then stay L at the fork on Willow Springs
Drive.
At the next fork/stop sign, the house is directly in front of you.
Turn L and park by the first driveway on the R.
H: (303) 277-1817
C: (720) 284-4217
Alternate directions from the N, to avoid heavy C470 traffic:
Continue W on I70, past C470, to the Red Rocks exit, #259, as if going
to the Hogback route.
Go S (L from Denver, R from Evergreen), ~2mi, to the end of the road,
in Morrison.
Turn R in Morrison, on hwy 74 for ~¼mi.
Turn L on hwy 8.
Go up the hill, past the turn to Mt. Falcon, ~1.5mi, to The Fort
restaurant.
Just past The Fort, just before hwy 285, turn L onto Willow Springs.
Follow the road down a steep hill, under the hwy, and steeply up the
other side.
After the road crests, and starts heading gently downhill, by the
country club, turn right on Willow Springs Drive.
Follow the above directions to the house.
If you are new to DTR, or unfamiliar with the trails, directions or
ratings, please follow the link below to maps, route descriptions,

SUNDAY GOLDEN
Golden weekend runs are Sundays at 7:30 a.m. Meet outside Brooks
Field, CSM Stadium, on 12th Street in Golden, and run on one of six or
more different routes in the Golden area. All of the courses allow for
varying lengths (e.g. 6-14+ miles) and paces, depending on the
interests of the runners on that day. For further information contact
Ron Benioff at rnbenioff@... 303-279-6152.
The BoulderTrailRunners has several free weekly group runs.

The Incline Club has started their new season. They meet every Sunday
for runs in the Pikes Peak area. They'll stay on lower trails through
the winter, then move up the mountain as the snow clears. Let us know
if you are interested in car-pooling from the Denver area.

FEATURED RACES
*2/25; Run the Register Stair Climb
Denver Trail Runners is putting together teams for the race. The race
is up 47 floors, 1,014 steps, in the "Cash Register" building (Wells
Fargo Center), downtown Denver.
Justin has set up a Denver Trail Runners team. If there is enough
interest, we can set up a separate women's team, and additional DTR
teams. Please let me know if you are interested in setting up
additional teams. Otherwise, join the DenverTrailRunners team when you
sign up.
Running up 47 floors is a bit longer than running a mile, and a lot
harder. Last year's winning time was 6:10 men, 6:41 women. If you can
run 1 mile in about 7 minutes, you should sign up in the "elite"
category. That allows you to start early, so you won't have to fight
your way around lots of slower walkers.
More to come later.
