This Thursday's run is at Red Rocks. Forecast calls for strong winds
and a chance of rain, so Red Rocks is a safe bet. Depending on
conditions, you'll have the option of either running the road or trail
route. This will be the full moon run for the month (it's actually
early Sat morning). That means that we'll try to keep the pace social.
The early group starts around 5:30pm. The main group starts at 6:15pm.
If you are new to these trails, or to DTR, please follow the link
below to maps, route descriptions, driving directions, FAQs, and other
information.

Kristine Falk wrote:
"My name is Krissy Falk, and I am a graduate student in the Locomotion
Laboratory at CU, as well as a trail runner. I am currently looking
for subjects who would like to participate in a study on stride
frequency in uphill and downhill running and its effect on
biomechanics and metabolic cost. Participation is completely
voluntary. In order to participate, you must be 18-35 years old,
injury-free, have had no previous heart trouble (There is a short
questionnaire related to cardiac health and injury, which I can do
over the phone or by e-mail) and run at least 30 miles a week,
preferably hill running.
The study consists of three or four sessions: an orientation (<1
hour), one session on the level, and one at three degrees (5.2%)
uphill, and possibly one at three degrees (5.2%) downhill, each of
which will take less than 2 hours, probably closer to 1.5. Ideally, I
would like to have subjects do all four sessions, but due to the time
commitment, I would understand if it were only possible to do the
first three. Sessions would be scheduled at your convenience.
If you participate, I will be able to tell you if the stride frequency
you choose naturally is actually the most metabolically efficient
stride frequency for you, on the level, and for however many slopes
you choose to do. Additionally, I will be able to tell you if, should
your preferred stride frequency differ from your metabolically optimal
one, you should quicken or slow down your stride frequency to become
more efficient. Orientations will start later this week.
If you are interested in participating in this study, please call me
at (303) 492-0926 or e-mail me anytime at Kristine.Falk@...
and we can get through the questionnaire and schedule a time for
orientation. Feel free to pass this e-mail on to anyone else who might
be interested. Thanks much and enjoy the trails!"

The Evergreen Runners Circle (ERC) holds FREE runs every Saturday,

these runs. The ERC runs are typically about 60 minutes long. They
usually go out for coffee/breakfast afterwards. Please forward your
questions to Dave via the ERC link below. For more info about the ERC
schedules, go to: http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Lodge/7018/index.html
Schedule:
1/14: Evergreen Lake House.
1/ 21: Genesee Overlook.
1/28: Evergreen High School. Meet at the track. Mostly trails.
2/4: Upper Bear Creek. Meet at the 5 mile marker.

Golden weekend runs are Sundays at 7:30 a.m. Meet outside Brooks
Field, CSM Stadium, on 12th Street in Golden, and run on one of six or
more different routes in the Golden area. All of the courses allow
for varying lengths (e.g. 6-14+ miles) and paces, depending on the
interests of the runners on that day. For further information contact
Ron Benioff at rnbenioff@..., 303-279-6152.
The Incline Club holds long runs, on Sundays, in the Pike Peak area.
They stay fairly low over the winter, then gradually venture up higher
as the trails dry, in the spring. There is a large turnout, often >100
people, even over the winter, with a wide range of abilities. For more
info, go to http://www.inclineclub.com
If you are interested in carpooling down to these runs, contact me and
I will share your e-mail address with others who are also interested.
