Come out and snowshoe on Sunday. This will be a casual outing, more
about fun than fitness, and a chance to get used to snowshoes before
your first race.
Meet at the Cold Spring park-and-ride lot, Simms, just S of 6th, in
Lakewood, at 10:00am. I'll either be in a brown Saturn, or a green
Forester with a roof bike rack (such a rare car in CO). If you're
coming from the Evergreen area, let us know and we'll meet you at the
Bergen Park park and ride. We'll carpool and caravan from there to the
snowshoe location.
That will be somewhere off of Squaw Pass, hwy 103, the road from
Bergen Park (Evergreen) to Echo Lake (base of Mt Evans toll road),
within 30-45 minutes of town. There are a number of good snowshoe
places just off the road. We'll go to the lowest place, with good
snow, and not a lot of people.
We'll snowshoe for 1-2 hours. That's negotiable when we meet.
I have a couple of extra pairs of snowshoes I can lend. First come,
first serve. E-mail me if you are interested. If you don't have
snowshoes, you can rent them at:
Runners Roost, Lakewood
REI
EMS
Breeze Ski Rentals
maybe Garts or Dicks
Mountain Miser
check with other outdoor shops.
Get smaller light hiking, running or fitness models. Don't get a
back-country model for this. You probably don't want/need anything
bigger than 8"x25". You'll want something with a small pivot at the
cleat, where the tail comes up as you lift your foot. On back-country
models, they pivot 90 degrees, so the tail stays on the snow.
For clothing and other gear, check out the Winter Running Tips message
I posted last month. Bring dry clothes, especially socks, for afterwards.
