In this week's message:
+ Full moon recap
+ Thursday run: Lookout/Chimney Gulch
+ Other weekly runs: Sat morning Evergreen & Golden
+ Seeking Weekend Running Partner
+ DTR Party this Saturday
+ Ultramarathon Research Study
+ DTR Road Trips and Carpools: 10/31 Goblin Valley 50K; 11/12 Rimrock
+ Trail Races, clinics and other upcoming events. NEW EVENTS ADDED

I don't normally recap our runs, but Monday's full moon run is worth
retelling for those who missed it. We had a great turnout, comparable
to some of our mid-summer runs. Several first timers to the group were
there. The weather was great, and the moon was beautiful. We had a
great view of the moon over the Eastern plains. As the moon got
higher, and we continued our run, it was so bright, that many of us
turned off our lights and just used the moon's reflection to light the
way. It was neat looking back (or ahead) and seeing the string of
lights on the trail behind (or ahead) of you. Near the end, we paused
and watched a huge herd of deer cross the trail. This was a casual,
social run. So we stayed much more together, in a single pack, than we
typically do on the Thursday night runs.

I will continue to schedule these full moon social runs throughout the
winter, as time and weather permits

This Thursday's run is at Lookout/Chimney Gulch. The main group will
start at 6:00pm. The early group usually starts around 5:30pm.

We will run here rain or shine. It the trails are muddy, we will run
the road. If you wear different shoes on roads and trails, you might
want to bring both pair with you.

We will finish this run in the dark. Sunset-6:14pm; End Civil
Twilight-6:41pm. If you don't have a good light, you can run down via
the road. Note that the road is almost a mile longer than the trail.
See the message posted last Friday for information on choosing a light.

Tentative schedule:
10/27: Bear Creek Lake Park; Sunset-6:05pm; End Civil Twilight-6:32pm.
11/3: South Valley Park

Tim Erickson writes: "I am looking for a running partner that wants to
run Saturday or Sunday mornings in the Jeffco Open Space Parks close
to metro Denver (Deer Creek, Mt. Falcon, Mathews-Winters, White Ranch,
etc.) Typical start times would be around 7:00 a.m. Runs would be in
the 1.5 to 3 hour range. Weather does not matter. Speed would be 12
to 15 minute miles on the up hills but faster on the down hills."

Kyle Stone writes: "Hello...My name is Kyle Stone and I am a graduate
student who is also an active ultrarunner in the Front Range. This
semester I am participating in a class that is focused on the
introduction to research methods. As part of our assignment, I have
chosen to research the difference between those who have successfully
completed a 100-mile ultramarathon race and those who have not.

As part of the research study, I have created a survey that will aid
in the collection of data that will attempt to highlight the
characteristics of the 100-mile ultrarunner.

If you have participated in a 100-mile ultramarathon race and would
like to participate in the study, please go the following web site to
find the survey. The survey will close by November 7, 2005.

http://www.questionpro.com/akira/TakeSurvey?id=296467

Upon completion of the research paper, with permission, I plan on
making the findings public to the Denver Trail Runners user group.
Thank you for participating in the advancement of ultrarmarathons and
the people who suffer through them. Should you have any questions,
please feel free to e-mail me:
kbstone13@...

Thanks again...see you on the trails...

Kyle Stone

p.s. The survey only takes about 5 to 8 minutes !!"
