The DTR End of Season party is this Saturday, Oct 22.
What: Potluck party to celebrate the end* of our 6th season. A chance
to socialize and get to know your fellow runners outside of the trails.
Who: Anyone on the list, whether you have run with us or not. If
you're new to the list, or haven't been able to make the Thursday
night runs, this is a great chance to get to know us. Bring your kids,
spouse, significant others, etc. No RSVPs please.
Where: Dan Oconnell's condo clubhouse in Lakewood. The name of the
complex is Snowbird II. The complex is on the southwest corner of
Eastman and Ammons. Eastman is 2 blocks N of Hampden, hwy 285 and the
first light S of Yale. Ammons is 2 blocks W of Wadsworth. If you go
too far south on Ammons, you will see another complex marked Snowbird
2, but it is the wrong one. The clubhouse is in the building right at
the corner, next to the tennis court and swimming pool. Park in any
space marked with a letter v, or park on the street. Please be careful
when using mapping programs; they aren't always correct. If you get
lost, contact Dan at h: 303-989-7522, c: 303-548-3935.
When: 6:30pm - ?
optional run at 4:45. See below.
Potluck: Bring food or drink to share with others. Suggestions include:
hot dishes
salads
side dishes
snacks
desserts
soda/juice
beer/wine
We did a pretty good job of getting a variety of items at the Thursday
night picnics this year. I hope that will continue for this party.
The clubhouse has a stove, oven refrigerator. DTR will supply
paper/plastic plates, cups, utensils, napkins, etc.
Run: Meet at the clubhouse at 4:45. It's a short jog from the
clubhouse to the Bear Creek path. We will run W on the path to the
golf course and dam at Bear Creek Lake Park. The path goes under
Estes. About 3/4 mi after that, jog left, cross Old Kipling at street
level, then pick up the path on the other side. Continue following the
path W, then N around the condo complex. At the end of the path, make
a sharp left and follow the small road into the golf course. Shortly
after the clubhouse, look for the bike path forking off to the right.
The path climbs here to the top of the dam. If you make it that far,
you can go left and run out-and-back across the top of the dam. Bring
a watch and turn around in time to make it back to the party before
dark: sunset-6:11; end civil twilight-6:38. Return along the same
route to the clubhouse. This route is a paved bike path and road,
although there are several places to run in the dirt, alongside the
path. This follows much of the Stonehouse run we sometimes do over the
winter.
There are bathrooms for changing at the clubhouse. I'm not sure about
showers. Bring a small towel to gently wash. The party is casual, and
many of us are used to seeing each other after running, so please
don't worry about getting fancy after the run.
* The "End of Season" doesn't mean the end of the Thursday night runs.
We will continue to run through the winter months.
