diminishing daylight.

The Evergreen Runners Circle (ERC) holds FREE runs every Saturday,
8:30am, on trails, in the Evergreen area. Several DTR regulars join
these runs. The ERC runs are typically about 60 minutes long. They
usually go out for coffee/breakfast afterwards. Please forward your
questions to Dave via the ERC link below. For more info about the ERC
schedules, go to: http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Lodge/7018/index.html

Darrin Eisman is selling snowshoes: "I am selling a dozen pairs of
snowshoes that I have in my basement. They
are all Alchemy running shoes that I used for some clinics and loaned
to friends. If you know anyone looking to buy a pair, I am asking
$100 a pair. They are great shoes, and I am keeping a few pair for
myself to race in."

Krissy Falk writes, "Hello all, I have copied below an e-mail I
sent awhile ago regarding a study I am doing at CU in Boulder on
stride frequency in hill running. I am looking to recruit more male
subjects, age 18-35, who run at least 30 miles a week and/or have run
18:30 or below for a 5K. I apologize for the age limit. I was unable
to convince the Human Research Committee that trail runners were
exceedingly unlikely to experience cardiac events, even those over the
age of 35.
Thanks much,
Krissy Falk
Hello,
My name is Krissy Falk, and I am a graduate student in the
Locomotion Laboratory at CU, as well as a trail runner. I am currently
looking for subjects who would like to participate in a study on
stride frequency in uphill and downhill running and its effect on
biomechanics and metabolic cost. Participation is completely
voluntary. In order to participate, you must be 18-35 years old,
injury-free, have had no previous heart trouble (There is a short
questionnaire related to cardiac health and injury, which I can do
over the phone or by e-mail) and run at least 30 miles a week,
preferably hill running.
The study consists of three or four sessions: an orientation(<1
hour), one session on the level, and one at three degrees (5.2%)
uphill, and possibly one at three degrees (5.2%) downhill, each of
which will take less than 2 hours, probably closer to 1.5. Ideally, I
would like to have subjects do all four sessions, but due to the time
commitment, I would understand if it were only possible to do the
first three. Sessions would be scheduled at your convenience.
If you participate, I will be able to tell you if the stride
frequency you choose naturally is actually the most metabolically
efficient stride frequency for you, on the level, and for however many
slopes you choose to do. Additionally, I will be able to tell you if,
should your preferred stride frequency differ from your metabolically
optimal one, you should quicken or slow down your stride frequency to
become more efficient.
Orientations will start later this week. If you are interested in
participating in this study, please call me at (303) 492-0926 or
e-mail me anytime at Kristine.Falk@... and we can get through
the questionnaire and schedule a time for orientation.
Feel free to pass this e-mail on to anyone else who might be
interested. Thanks much and enjoy the trails!

11/12. Rim Rock Run. This is one of the classic runs in the state. The
37km (~23mi) course travels through the incredibly scenic Colo Natl
Monument. It's a road race, but has over 1,700' of climbing.

* Jeff says that he would prefer to drive out the day before, then
drive back after the race is over. He can stay until Monday after the
Goblin race.
Save gas. Save money. It's more fun to go with a group. Send me a note
if interested in carpooling to these or any other upcoming events.
Please send me the information by the weekend prior to the event.
