In this week's message:
+ DTR reminders
+ Thursday run: Mt. Falcon, upper lot
+ Other weekly runs: Tue & Wed mornings, Sat ERC
+ Marathon Movie Night and Training Discussion: Tue Night, REI.
+ Runners Needed for Relay Teams
+ Carpooling and get togethers at Pikes and Imogene
+ IAAF World Championships from Helsinki on Local TV Channel 59
+ Trail Races, clinics and other upcoming events. NEW EVENTS ADDED.
Just a few reminders of how DTR works. On Yahoo, DTR is a newsletter
group, not a discussion forum. Only a handful of select members are
allowed to post and approve messages. I've gotten a number of
comments, recently, from people wondering why their attempts to post
were rejected. This is done to keep the volume of messages down, which
has been repeatedly supported in surveys. If you want to send
something to the group - please keep it running related (e.g.,
carpooling, relay runners needed, upcoming clinics) - please send it
to denvertrailrunners-owner@yahoogroups.com
Also, if you want to send something to the group, please send it to me
by the weekend before. This gives me time to get it into the regular
weekly message. I try to limit the number of messages from the group,
and I don't have time to create a lot of messages, so I usually won't
send out extra messages during the week. I don't check that e-mail
account every day.

This Thursday's run is again at Mt. Falcon, UPPER lot (T=3, P=3, N=3;
BMms) trails. We'll try it again and hope for better weather this
week. The main group will start at 6:20pm; the early group starts
around 5:30pm. Anyone interested in riding up from the bottom, meet us
at the lower Falcon lot at 5:00-5:10pm.
Note: THIS IS A CHANGE FROM THE PRIOR SCHEDULE! This is also a new
location for us. Please use the links below for maps and more details
on the park.
The weather forecasts look good for now, but you never know in
Colorado. In case of bad weather and muddy trails, we will run at Bear
Creek Lake Park instead.
Directions: Take HWY 285 SW from C-470, ~4.5mi, to the second exit.
Exit and go right, N onto Parmalee Gulch Rd. About 3mi up the road,
before the top, look for signs to Mt. Falcon. Turn right, and follow
the signs to Mt. Falcon. Go through past the horse lot and park in the
second lot.
Route: Start down the Castle Trail. Just a short way down, take the
first right onto Parmalee Trail. We'll stay together until there. The
trail drops steeply for a bit, the loops around overlooking hwy 285.
The trail continues for 2mi to "KEY" junction with Meadow, Tower and
Old Ute trails, where the routes will split.
Slow: From the KEY junction, take the Meadow trail in either
direction, left or straight, to the Castle Trail. Go left on the
Castle Trail to the finish.
Intermediate: From the KEY junction, go right onto Old Ute towards
Devils Elbow. The trails split and come back together twice. Stay
right in both directions. Return to the KEY junction. Take Meadow
either way, to Castle, the left to the finish.
Fast: Follow the intermediate route around Devils Elbow, and back to
the KEY junction. Start up Meadow, then bear left onto the Tower
trail. Follow it over the ridge, and back to the Meadow trail. There,
take a sharp right, downhill, and return back to the key junction. Go
left onto the Meadow Trail to Castle, then left to the finish.
Alternatively, after finishing the Devil's loop, we can reverse the
Parmalee trail back to the start.
If you are new to the group or unfamiliar with the run locations and
rating, please go to dtr.runuphillracing.com for driving directions,
running routes, trail ratings, or other information about the group.
Paper maps should be available at the start. Please read and bring a
printout the route descriptions.

Team Freakin Idiots needs additional runners for their Wild West Relay
team. See race details below. If interested, or for questions, contact
Jess LaVigne, jsobo5@....
Relay races are a lot of fun. You spend 24 hours or so, running and
driving through the mountains, with other tired runners. You can be
seriously competitive; you can be casual; you can have both on the
same team. There are a couple of good events in Colorado:
8/19-20; Wild West Relay; Ft. Collins to Steamboat Springs; 195 miles;
directed by a sometime DTR member Paul Vanderheiden. Teams of 12 with
each person running three separate 5-6 mile legs. Ultra teams of 6
with each person running a single 30-35 mi leg. This is held on the
full moon. www.wildwestrelay.com, wwr@...
9/16-17; Colorado Outward Bound Relay; Idaho Springs to Glenwood
Springs; 170 miles. 10 and 5 person teams. www.coloradorelay.com
Interested in forming a team with other DenverTrailRunners for an
upcoming relay? Do you already have a team that is looking for
additional runners? If interested in forming a team, please send me a
note. We'll need someone to volunteer to "lead" the teams. That means
being the contact person and organizing the other runners and drivers.
You can use the DTR message to help recruit team members. I am not
able to do the relays this year, although I have done the Colorado
Relay before.

Are doing Pikes or Imogene. Interested in carpooling to the race, or
from Telluride to Ouray at Imogene; sharing a room; or getting
together after the races? If you're doing any of these races, send me
a message. Let me know which race you are doing, if you are interested
in sharing a ride/room, and ideas to meet after the races. Send it to
info@....

Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, Finland each day from 4pm to 5pm and on saturday it
will be on from 3pm to 4pm.

Save gas. Save money. It's more fun to go with a group. Send me a
note, info@..., if interested in carpooling to any
upcoming events. I'll try to help you find a driving partner. Please
try to get it to me by the weekend prior to the event.
