+ DTR tops 1000
+ Carpools
+ Relay runners needed
+ Group run next Saturday
+ Input needed for running article

The DTR group has topped 1,000 members! I'm wondering where all of you
are? We have a long way to go before the runs become too big. I'd like
to see more new people at our runs. There really are runners of all
abilities. Tonight's run, at Lookout Mtn, is a great run if you are
unfamiliar with the trails. The route is easy to follow. The run is an
out-and-back, so you can turn around whenever you want. Note that the
out is up a challenging hill.

Team Freakin Idiots needs additional runners for their Wild West Relay
team, Aug 19-20. See race details below. If interested, or for
questions, contact Jess LaVigne, jsobo5@....

Matt Kennedy needs 2 female and 1 male for his Hood to Coast relay
team, Aug 26-27. Expenses would be airfare to Portland, food, and
share of group expenses. More information can be found at
www.hoodtocoast.com. Contact Matt at matthew.kennedy@....

Relay races are a lot of fun. You spend 24 hours or so, running and
driving through the mountains, with other tired runners. You can be
seriously competitive; you can be casual; you can have both on the
same team. There are a couple of good events in Colorado:

8/19-20; Wild West Relay; Ft. Collins to Steamboat Springs; 195 miles;
directed by a sometime DTR member Paul Vanderheiden. Teams of 12 with
each person running three separate 5-6 mile legs. Ultra teams of 6
with each person running a single 30-35 mi leg. This is held on the
full moon. www.wildwestrelay.com, wwr@...

9/16-17; Colorado Outward Bound Relay; Idaho Springs to Glenwood
Springs; 170 miles. 10 and 5 person teams. www.coloradorelay.com

Interested in forming a team with other DenverTrailRunners for an
upcoming relay? Do you already have a team that is looking for
additional runners? If interested in forming a team, please send me a
note. We'll need someone to volunteer to "lead" the teams. That means
being the contact person and organizing the other runners and drivers.
You can use the DTR message to help recruit team members. I am not
able to do the relays this year, although I have done the Colorado
Relay before.

Next Saturday, July 23, we will do a run in the mountains. The run
will be on the Burning Bear and South Park Trails. The start/finish is
at Bruno Gulch, about midway between Guanella Pass and highway 285, at
Grant. There will be various options from 6-20 miles. Elevations range
from 9,500' - 11,750', on the longer route. There's some great scenery
and views, and very few people. More details will be posted in next
week's message. The routes will be on my web site this weekend. We
could use someone to crew mid-run. This person could also run part of
the course.

Kyle Boelte is looking for input on an article.

"I'm writing an article for an national running magazine about
alternatives to commercial energy bars and gels. I'd love to talk to a
few of you who have had good experiences with homemade bars/gels (or
foods you didn't have to create like bananas and other fruits). I'd
love to get a couple good stories, too, something that really
illustrates the subject--like the time you were running the Hardrock
or the Pikes Peak Marathon and....

We can do this by email and it will only take a few minutes. Please
reply off the list."
