Background: DTR has been holding a time trial since its inception. We
have been doing this once/month, from May-September, at Mt. Falcon.
The Falcon course is 2.5mi, with 1,500' of climbing. We handicap the
starts with the slower runners starting first. This makes it fun with
everyone finishes at about the same time. Times have ranged form 22-55 minutes.
Then, we do a slow paced, group run at the top before heading back down. Last
year, we held one of the time trials at Green Mountain, on a moderately rolling,
5km course.
The time trial has been very popular in past surveys. It gives you a
chance to test your fitness improvement (hopefully) throughout the
season. However, I also know that some people don't like it. A few
will do a non-timed run at Falcon while the rest of us do the time
trial. Also, having it once a month, means that it somewhat limits our
ability to run a wider variety of trails.
