+ Thursday evening run: Green Mtn., Rooney Road lot (T=3, P=2-4; N=3)**
+ Saturday Evergreen Runners Circle run: Upper Bear Creek Rd, 5mi mark
(T=1, P=2, N=1)**
+ Tuesday morning runs: South Table Mtn (T=3, P=2, N=4)**
+ Free Snowshoe Race - Feb. 27, Echo Lake
+ Races, clinics and other upcoming events - New Events Listed.
This Thursday's run is at Green Mtn., Rooney Road lot (T=3, P=2-4;
N=3)**. The main group will start at 6:15pm. An early group usually
starts around 5:30pm; look for Scott, Ray, Connie or Kim.
The trails drain fairly well. However, if it is muddy, the run will be
moved to either Red Rocks or Bear Creek Lake Park. The decision will be
made at 6:15pm that night, by those in attendance.
If you are unfamiliar with this trail, please print out the route
description (below) and attached map (if available).
Directions: From Denver, take 6th ave to the end of the freeway. Turn
onto Colfax or US 40. Go about 1 mile, just under the C-470 extension,
then turn left at the light, Rooney Road. The lot is about 1.5 miles
ahead, on the left.
From the south, take C-470 to Morrison Rd. Go west, then take the first
right onto Rooney Road, before you enter Morrison, by the Conoco
station. Rooney road goes by Bandimere Speedway, under C-470, then ends
about 2.5 miles up at Alameda. Go left, cross over C-470, then take the
next right onto Rooney Road again. The lot is about 1/2 mile up on the
right.
Route (see attached): There are several options. Please choose the
appropriate route for your speed to finish in about 1:00-1:10.
Start by taking the pedestrian bridge over C-470. Take the far right
dirt trail. Follow the trail around the south side of the mountain,
past the first few trail junctions. There's a junction in ~0.75mi
(GM1). Go right (left takes you back to the start; straight climbs up
steeply) and continue around the south side of the mountain. The trail
takes you near the road, next to a small lot (GM2) at ~2.0mi; continue
straight. At ~2.5mi, there a set of jeep tracks heading up to the left
(GM3). You'll see (in the daylight) a fence on the left, up the hill.
Do not turn here. Continue to the next junction, the Utah trail, 3.1mi
(UTAH1). This is the first option.
Option 1A: Intermediate runners should go left here, or see 1C below.
Go up for ½mi then go left at the trail junction (UTAH2). Go up the
trail another 1mi to the service road (GM4). Go left for 0.7mi to
option 5.
1B: Faster runners should continue straight and continue around to the
Florida lot (FLA), 3.4mi.
1C: Slow runners, and anyone wanting to avoid any big climbs, should
continue to the Florida lot (FLA), or until you've been out 30-35 min.
Then return the same way.
Option 2A: At the large, dirt, Florida lot (FLA), go left onto the
single track at the north end of the lot. It merges with 2B about ½mi
up, at a 90 left turn. Continue up to option 3.
2B: Go straight (yellow line) through the north end of the lot for
~1/3mi. Go left up the next trail. It merges with 2A.
Above the next rise after 2A&B merge, there's a single track on the
left (UTAH3).
Option 3A: Go left (yellow line) on the single track. After ¼mi, go
right at the junction onto the Utah trail (UTAH2). Continue another 1mi
up to the service road. Go left, then continue to option 5.
3B: Continue climbing up the ridge to the towers (TOW). This is a few
minutes shorter than 3A, unless you take 4B.
Option 4A: Go left at the towers (TOW) and follow the service road
another mile, over the top of Green Mtn, to option 5.
4B: Go right (yellow line) at the towers and start down the ridge for
about 50 yards. Go left onto a single track. This parallels the service
road heading NW. Merge back up to the service road. Go right and
continue to option 5.
Option 5A: (GM5) The service road takes a sharp, left turn and heads
down steeply. Stay on the road. It's about another mile to the finish.
5B: Stay straight onto a single track. The trails fork, then come back
together before the next turn. After ¼mi, Go left onto a single track
(GM6). This rocky trail winds its way down the side of the mountain.
After ~1mi, go left at the saddle down a steep trail. This goes over a
couple of rises, then merges back with the service road. Go right and
continue another 0.4mi to the finish. 5B is ~0.8mi longer than 5A.
* Regrouping points. Please wait here to help guide new runners.

This Saturday's Evergreen Runners Circle (ERC) run is at the Upper Bear
Creek Rd, 5mi mark (T=1, P=2, N=1)**. The run starts promptly at
8:30am. Some may start from the Lake House, 16 miles. Check w/Dave
This is a great, winter run location, mostly on maintained, and lightly
traveled dirt roads, with views of Mt. Evans.
Take the Evergreen Parkway, hwy 74, exit 252 from I-70. Take hwy 74
about 7 miles, through Bergen Park, past Elk Meadow, down the hill,
towards the lake. As you are coming down the hill before the lake, just
before the road curves left, veer right onto the short frontage road,
then turn right at the Stop sign onto Upper Bear Creek Rd. Go 5mi up
the road. Meet at the dirt turnout at the 5mile marker.
The ERC runs are usually 60-90 minutes long. Occasionally, some people
will start early, or run longer, to get in more mileage. They usually
go out for coffee/breakfast afterwards. Several of us do the ERC runs,
but I don't organize them. Please forward your questions to Dave via
the ERC link below. For more info about the ERC schedules, go to:

Leigh Singleton and Ray Grundmeyer are leading runs every Tue morning
at South Table Mtn (T=3, P=2, N=4). They meet at 5:15am, and run into
the sunrise. The pace is casual. They welcome some company. Look for
Leigh in a yellow Nissan XTerra, often with a standard poodle, or Ray
in a burgundy pickup. These runs will continue every week as long as
people show up.
Please see the message posted on Mondays for directions. Or, contact
Leigh for more info: inclinerunner@.... It's helpful if you let her
know if you plan to show up, so they know to look for you.

I am putting on a FREE snowshoe race on Sun., 2/27, at Echo Lake. There
will be two courses, ~2mi & ~5-6mi. Both courses will be primarily in
the trees (protected from the wind) and through powder. The longer
course will have a lot of climbing. Both courses will be well marked.
Echo Lake is at the base of Mt. Evans, just 13.5 mi from Idaho Springs,
and 18mi from Evergreen.
I could use help setting the courses on Sat, 2/26. I'll go up after the
ERC run, leaving Genesee and ~10am. It'll take 2-3 hours to set and
mark the courses. We should return to Evergreen by 3pm. Let me know if
you are interested.
