This Tuesday is the full moon. We will celebrate with a run that evening.
The run will be at Chief Hosa, to the top of Genesee Mountain (T=1,
P=2, N=1). It is mostly on smooth, dirt roads, with a little pavement,
and a very short trail section. The run is a moderate climb, ~600', in
a little over 3 miles, to the flagpole at the top of the mountain.
From there, we should have a great view of the moon rising over Denver
and the eastern plains. Then, we'll have the moon to light our way
back down.
Directions: Take I-70 west to the Chief Hosa exit, #253. Go left,
cross the highway, then go left on the dirt road. The road splits just
below the lodge. We usually park along the road to the left.
Route: Run up the road to the right. Follow the dirt road up for ~2mi.
There, take a sharp left at the paved road. Continue around the chain,
onto the dirt road. This road wraps up and around the top of the
mountain. At the end of the dirt road, take the short trail to the
flagpole.
The return is back the same way. For the faster runners, there's an
option to add an extra ~3/4 mile. About 1/2 mi up from the start, at
the buffalo field, you'll see a road come in from the left. On the
return, the faster runners may go right at this Y. The road curves
around and meets back at the lodge. Slower and intermediate runners
should stay left to get to the lodge.
