This Thursday's run is at Chimney Gulch/Lookout Mtn (T=3, P=3, N=2)
**. The main group will start at 6:15pm sharp. A smaller, informal
group usually starts around 5:30pm; look for Scott, Ray, Connie or
Kim.
This is a great run for newcomers because the trail is easy to
follow, and it's an out-and-back. It is hilly. Please refer to the
TPN scale at the bottom.
Directions: Meet at the dirt turnout, at the first hairpin turn, just
above the pillars. Take hwy 6 to Golden. Turn west at Lookout
Mtn/19th ave. The turnout is about 3/4-mile up, just above the
pillars. There's a porta-potty in the small park on the left, below
the pillars. If coming from Boulder, take hwy 93 south, and continue
south on hwy 6. From the east on I70, take hwy 58 west, through
Golden, to hwy 6; turn left at hwy 6, up the hill, to Lookout. From
the south, take C470 to the end; just past I70, it will let you off
onto hwy 6. Take hwy 6 west for about 1.5mi to Lookout.
Route: The main route is out and back. Please keep your run to 1:10
or less. You should turn around no later than 40 minutes. There are
some additional options for faster runners. Start up the road ~1/2-
mi. Go left onto the trail at the small dirt turnout. Head up the
trail for another ~1.5 mi. Cross the road at Windy Saddle, jog left,
and pick up the Beaver Brook trail on the other side. In another 1/4-
mi, at the next trail junction, make a sharp left. About a mile
further up, take a sharp right and continue another ~1/3-mi to the
Boettcher Mansion. Slower and intermediate runners may want to turn
before the mansion. Return along the same route.
For faster runners from the mansion (top): 1) Go left on the road at
the mansion, for ~3/4 mi down the hill. Go left again at Lookout Mtn
Rd, then look for a park on the left. Enter the park and look for a
trail on the far left. This will merge back with the trail we took up
at the last junction before the mansion. Continue down the same way
you came up. 2) For an even longer route, go right and follow the
trail along the west side of the mansion, outside the fence for ~1mi.
Go left at Lookout Mtn Rd for another 1.1 mile to the park.
Regrouping places for slow and intermediate runners: 1) At the Windy
Saddle road crossing, both ways; 2) At Boettcher Mansion, if you make
it to the top.
In case of rain, run the road instead. It's a great hill run, with
very little traffic.
Upcoming run schedule (subject to change):
8/26-Lair o' the Bear, potluck picnic

Saturday's Evergreen Runners Circle (ERC) run is at Evergreen Lake
House (T=3, P=3, N=4)**.
Take the Evergreen Parkway, hwy 74, exit 252 from I-70. Continue
through Bergen Park, past Elk Meadow, about 6 miles, down the hill to
the lake. At the bottom of the hill, just before the road turns left
at the lake, turn right onto Upper Bear Creek Rd. Go about 1/4 mile
and turn left into the Lake House parking lot.
The ERC runs are usually 60-90 minutes long. Occasionally, some
people will start early, or run longer, to get in more mileage. They
usually go out for coffee/breakfast afterwards. Several of us do the
ERC runs, but I don't organize them. Please forward your questions to
Dave via the ERC link below. For more info about the ERC schedules,

Interested in a weekday morning run? A number of people expressed an
interest in my spring survey. The times ranged from 4am - noon. It
takes someone willing to take the "lead." Leading just means deciding
when and where to meet, greeting the runners at the start, and
explaining the route. It doesn't mean being the fastest runner. Just
send me the run information (day, time, directions if at a non-
Thursday location) by the weekend before and I'll post the
information here. Build it and they will come.
