Week of July 5

+ Thursday evening run: Apex (T=4, P=3, N=2)**
+ Saturday's Evergreen Runners Circle run: Elk Meadow, lower lot
(T=3, P=2-5, N=2)**
+ Races, clinics and other upcoming events
+ Carpool to Wed eve Breckenridge trail races
+ Telluride Mountain Film Festival

This Thursday's run is at Apex (T=4, P=3, N=2)**. The main group will
start at 6:15pm sharp. A smaller group usually starts around 5:30pm;
look for Scott, Ray, Connie or Kim.

Directions: Meet at the north end of the lower Heritage Square lot,
by the large trail map. Take 6th Ave. west to the end of the freeway.
Turn left onto US 40/Colfax, the light at the end of the freeway. Go
about 1.5mi to the entrance to Heritage Square. Turn right, then an
immediate right to the lower lot. From C-470 and I-70, take the Red
Rocks exit, #259. Go north, about a mile down the hill. Turn left at
Heritage Square, then an immediate right to the lower lot. From
Boulder, take 93 south to hwy 6. Turn right on Heritage Rd. Just
before US 40, turn right into the lot.

Route:
http://www.co.jefferson.co.us/ext/dpt/comm_res/openspac/apex.htm

Start up the trail by the map, jog right across the footbridge, then
left into the canyon. We'll split up at the first junction, ~3/4 mi
up the canyon. Slow and fast runners should go right. Those in the
middle can either go right or straight. Read on.

To the right, climb the Pick 'N Sledge trail for ~1mi. There are
three options at the top. The faster intermediate runners should
either take the first left, Pick 'N Sledge, or go another 1/2 mi to
the second left, Bonanza. From either option, then go left down
Sluicebox. The slow and fast runners should continue around on the
Grubstake loop. This meets the Sluicebox. Continue down to the main
Apex trail. Slow runners should go left and head back to the start.
Those going longer, should go right for 0.3mi to the Enchanted Forest.

Intermediate runners should stay straight at the first junction and
continue another 1mi up the canyon. About 0.3mi past Sluicebox, look
for a bridge on the left. Cross the bridge and take the Enchanted
Forest trail ~1.3mi up. At the top, go right and come back down the
Apex trail. It's much easier going up Enchanted and down Apex than
the other way. Then, continue down Apex to the finish.

Slow - Go right at the first junction, Pick 'N Sledge. Stay right and
follow Grubstake to Sluicebox. Go left at Apex. ~5.5mi

Slow intermediate - Stay straight at the first junction for another
mi. Take the first left on Enchanted Forest. Come back down Apex.
~6.0mi

Fast Intermediate - Go right at the first junction. Take the first or
second left at the top, then come down Sluicebox. Take a right at the
bottom, then the next left on Enchanted Forest. Come back down Apex.
7.1mi or 7.5mi.

Fast - Go right up Pick 'N Sledge. Stay right and follow Grubstake
around. Come down Sluicebox. Go right at Apex. Take the next left
onto Enchanted Forest. Come back down Apex. 8.1mi.

Upcoming run schedule (subject to change):
7/15-Green Mtn, time trial, 3.2mi on rolling course
7/22-Deer Creek, potluck picnic
7/29-Hogback/Matthews Winters
8/5-Ken Caryl
8/12-Mt. Falcon time trial
8/19- Lookout/Chimney Gulch
8/26-Lair o' the Bear, potluck picnic

This Saturday's Evergreen Runners Circle (ERC) run is at Elk Meadow,
lower lot (T=3, P=2-5, N=2)**.

Take the Evergreen Parkway, hwy 74, exit 252 from I-70. Continue
through Bergen Park ~4.5 mi. Just after you pass Elk Meadow on your
right, turn right at the light at the bottom of the hill, turn right
onto Lewis Ridge Rd., then an immediate right into the dirt lot.

The ERC runs are usually 60-90 minutes long. Occasionally, some
people will start early, or run longer, to get in more mileage. They
usually go out for coffee/breakfast afterwards. Several of us do the
ERC runs, but I don't organize them. Please forward your questions to
Dave via the ERC link below. For more info about the ERC schedules,

From Todd Holmes:

"MOUNTAINFILM in Telluride on Tour is coming to the American
Mountaineering Center in downtown Golden, Thursday, July 8 and
Friday, July 9; with a different selection of films showing each
night. (Check out http://www.mountainfilm.org/tour.html for general
info on MOUNTAINFILM in Telluride.) Each show is a great night of awe-
inspiring adventure, environmental, and cultural short films relating
to mountain life.

This event is a fundraiser for the Alpine Rescue Team based out of
Evergreen, Colorado. Shows start at 7pm and tickets are $16 each if
purchased on-line at www.alpinerescueteam.org or, pending
availability, will be $15 at the door the night of the show. It's
always an incredible show and well worth the price of admission."
