+ Thursday evening run and potluck: Deer Creek (T=3, P=4; N=2)**
+ Saturday's Evergreen Runners Circle run: Chief Hosa (T=1, P=2, N=2)**
+ Races, clinics and other upcoming events
+ Telluride Mountain Film Festival
This Thursday's run and potluck is at Deer Creek (T=3, P=4; N=2)**. The main
group will start at 6:25pm sharp. A smaller group usually starts around 5:30pm;
look for Scott, Ray, Connie or Kim. The potluck will start around 8pm.
Regardless of when you start, please finish close to or before 8pm.
Potluck: Everyone is invited to the picnic. Feel free to bring kids, spouses and
friends. Please bring something to eat or drink, something to eat/drink on/with,
and a little extra to share with others. People have brought things like wine,
beer, chips, brownies, and pasta salad - be creative. I may bring an ice chest
to keep things cool while we're running, but no promises. I'll also bring some
utensils left over from last year's picnics. Please join us even if you aren't
able to bring anything. There is always more than enough for everyone. This is a
great chance to get to know the other runners in a casual setting.
Directions: Take C-470 to Kipling. Go south ~50 yards to the stop sign and turn
right onto Ute. The road curves left, goes down the hill, and then merges with
Deer Creek. Go right and continue up the canyon. About 3/4 mi. past South Valley
Rd, look for a sign to the park. Turn left onto Grizzly Rd. Turn right into the
lot at the top of the hill.
Route: We'll go in a clockwise direction this time. See the map at
http://www.co.jefferson.co.us/ext/dpt/comm_res/openspac/deerck.htm
Everyone should start on the Meadowlark (hiker only) trail, to the right of the
bathrooms. Go right after the bridge and head up "the wall" section (very steep)
of the Plymouth Creek (PC) trail.
Beginner: Continue up the steep PC trail to the 1st left, Plymouth Mountain
(PM). Go left and follow PM around for ~1.7mi to the top. At the junction with
the Homesteader, stay right and go down the steep PM trail back to PC. Go down
PC to Meadowlark. Go left across the bridge and take Meadowlark back to the
bottom. ~6.6mi
Intermediate: Follow the beginner route to the Homesteader/PM junction. Go left
onto Homesteader trail for 1mi. At the end, take a sharp right and take PC and
Meadowlark back down. ~7.2mi
Advanced1: Don't follow the beginner or intermediate route. Instead, stay right
on PC until you reach the Red Mesa loop. There, go left and do the 2.5mi loop.
Return back down PC and Meadowlark. ~8.3mi.
Advanced2: Don't follow the beginner or intermediate route. Stay on PC to the
2nd left. Go up the very steep PM trail for to Homesteader. Go right on
Homesteader for 1mi. Go left to Red Mesa. Go left and follow the Adv1 route
back. ~9.3mi.
Expert: Start out on the Intermediate route to the end of Homesteader. From
there, stay left to Red Mesa. Go left on Red Mesa, then follow the advanced
route back. ~10.5mi

This Saturday's Evergreen Runners Circle (ERC) run is at Chief Hosa (T=1, P=2,
N=2)**. This is an easy run, mostly on dirt roads.
Take I-70 to the Chief Hosa exit, #253. Go south, left (if coming from Denver)
across the highway. Go left on the dirt frontage road a short distance and park
near the "Y", just below the lodge.
The ERC runs are usually 60-90 minutes long. Occasionally, some people will
start early, or run longer, to get in more mileage. They usually go out for
coffee/breakfast afterwards. Several of us do the ERC runs, but I don't organize
them. Please forward your questions to Dave via the link below ERC. For more
info about the ERC schedules, go to:
http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Lodge/7018/index.html
Schedule:
7/3: Evergreen Lake House.
7/10: Lower Parking Lot at Elk Meadow.
7/17: Evergreen Peak Race

From Todd Holmes:
"MOUNTAINFILM in Telluride on Tour is coming to the American Mountaineering
Center in downtown Golden, Thursday, July 8 and Friday, July 9; with a different
selection of films showing each night. (Check out
http://www.mountainfilm.org/tour.html for general info on MOUNTAINFILM in
Telluride.) Each show is a great night of awe-inspiring adventure,
environmental, and cultural short films relating to mountain life.
This event is a fundraiser for the Alpine Rescue Team based out of Evergreen,
Colorado. Shows start at 7pm and tickets are $16 each if purchased on-line at
www.alpinerescueteam.org or, pending availability, will be $15 at the door the
night of the show. It's always an incredible show and well worth the price of
admission."
