+ Thursday evening run and potluck picnic: Chimney Gulch/Lookout Mtn
(T=3, P=3, N=2)**
+ Saturday's Evergreen Runners Circle run: Mt. Falcon trail race (T=3,
P=5)
+ Races, clinics and other upcoming events
+ Tim Erickson long run, 6/12
+ Big Horn carpool
This Thursday's is at Chimney Gulch/Lookout Mtn (T=3, P=3, N=2)**. The
main group will start at 6:15pm sharp. A smaller group usually starts
around 5:30pm; look for Scott, Ray, Connie or Kim.
Note: This is a good run for beginners. The route is very easy to
follow. It is an out-and-back run for all but the fastest.
Directions (see attached map): Meet at the dirt turnout, at the first
hairpin turn, just above the pillars. Take hwy 6 to Golden. Turn west
at Lookout Mtn/19th ave. The turnout is about 3/4-mile up, just above
the pillars. There's a porta-potty in the small park on the left, below
the pillars. If coming from Boulder, take hwy 93 south, and continue
south on hwy 6. From the east on I70, take hwy 58 west, through Golden,
to hwy 6; turn left at hwy 6, up the hill, to Lookout. From the south,
take C470 to the end; just past I70, it will let you off onto hwy 6.
Route: The main route is out and back. The run should be about 1:05.
Please judge your turn around time appropriately, at around 40 minutes.
There are some additional options for faster runners. Start up the road
~1/2-mi. Go left onto the trail at the small dirt turnout. Head up the
trail for another ~1.5 mi. Cross the road at Windy Saddle, jog left,
and pick up the Beaver Brook trail on the other side. In another
1/4-mi, at the next trail junction, make a sharp left. About a mile
further up, take a sharp right and continue another ~1/3-mi to the
Boettcher Mansion. Slower and intermediate runners may want to turn
before the mansion. Judge your time accordingly. Return along the same
route.
For faster runners from the mansion (top): 1) Go left on the road at
the mansion, for ~3/4 mi down the hill. Go left again at Lookout Mtn
Rd, then look for a park on the left. Enter the park and look for a
trail on the far left. This will merge back with the trail we took up
at the last junction before the mansion. Continue down the same way you
came up. 2) For an even longer route, go right and follow the trail
along the west side of the mansion, outside the fence for ~1mi. Go left
at Lookout Mtn Rd for another 1.1 mile to the park.
Regrouping: Please regather in smaller subgroups at the following
places. If you are familiar with the route, please wait and help newer
runners, about your pace, at these key spots: 1) At the Windy Saddle
road crossing, for slow and intermediate runners; 2) At Boettcher
Mansion, if you make it to the top.
Here's the proposed summer schedule. It's subject to change, and I
welcome your suggestions:

This Saturday's Evergreen Runners Circle (ERC) run is on the Mt. Falcon
trail race (T=3, P=5)**. See schedule below. The race is 8mi, 4 up and
4 back, and follows the same route as our time trial.
Take C-470 to Morrison Rd., hwy 74. Go west, through the town of
Morrison. Turn left onto hwy 8. About 1 mile up the hill, look for
signs to the park. Turn right onto Forrest. Take the next right to the
park. If the lot is full, you may have to park on the road. From hwy
285, and the south, take the hwy 8 exit, the first exit west of C-470.
About 1 mile north of The Fort restaurant, look for Forrest drive and
signs to the park.
The ERC runs are usually 60-90 minutes long. Occasionally, some people
will start early, or run longer, to get in more mileage. They usually
go out for coffee/breakfast afterwards. Several of us do the ERC runs,
but I don't organize them. Please forward your questions to Dave via
the link below ERC. For more info about the ERC schedules, go to:

is about 30 miles with 6500' of climb and travels through forests,
meadows, alpine tundra, and deep canyons. The low point is about 8000'
and the high point is about 11,900'.
Interested runners can contact me at EricksonZoo@... or

Big Horn Carpool
Ben Nachtrieb writes:
"Hello is anyone interested in carpooling to the Big Horn Trail Ultra
Run in Dayton, WY? One other person and I are probably going to leave
around 9am on Thurs the 17th of June and return on Sunday the 20th of
June in the afternoon. I am running the 100 and he is running the 50.
There are 30k's and 50k's too. Check out the website by doing a google
search for it. We will be driving a minivan so there is plenty room.
Or maybe you want to volunteer for the race? Come along. Let me know
asap though."
