No Fooling. :) There's only ONE more week until daylight savings
time and the start of our 5th season. You'll still need a light for
this week.

The best fireworks show you may ever see will be this Thursday night in
Golden. As part of the Engineering Week celebration, students at the
School of Mines (where they learn to blow up rocks and things) put on a
fireworks show for the public. It starts at 9pm at the stadium. Join us
for dinner after the run. Then, we'll head over to the stadium for the
show. If Warren and Brooke are back in town, we are invited to their
place, overlooking the stadium. I'll give out directions Thursday
night.

This Thursday's run is at Chimney Gulch/Lookout Mtn (T=2, P=3, N=2)**.
The main group will start at 6:15pm. A smaller group usually meets at
5:30pm; look for Scott, Ray, Connie or Kim.
Directions: Meet at the dirt turnout, at the first hairpin turn, just
above the pillars. Take hwy 6 to Golden. Turn west at Lookout Mtn/19th
ave. The turnout is about 3/4-mile up, just above the pillars. Please
park efficiently to allow room for the most number of cars. There's a
porta-potty in the small park on the left, below the pillars.
Route: The main route is out and back. There are some additional
options for faster runners. Start up the road about 1/2-mi. Go left
onto the trail at the small dirt turnout. Head up the trail for about
1.75 mi. Cross the road at Windy Saddle and pick up the trail on the
other side. In another 1/4-mi, make a sharp left at the next trail
junction (do not take the Beaver Brook trail). About a mile further up,
take a sharp right and continue about another 1/3-mi to the Boettcher
Mansion. Slower and intermediate runners may want to turn before the
mansion. Judge your time accordingly. Return along the same route.
Here are two additional, longer options for faster runners from the
mansion (top). 1) Go left on the road at the mansion, for ~3/4 mi down
the hill. Go left again at Lookout Mtn Rd. In less than 1/4mi, look for
a park on the left, then look for a trail on the left. This will merge
back with the trail we took up at the last junction before the mansion.
Continue down the same way you came up. 2) For an even longer route, go
right and follow the trail along the west side of the mansion, outside
the fence for ~1mi. Go left at Lookout Mtn Rd for another 1.1 mile to
the park.

This Saturday's Evergreen Runners Circle (ERC) run is at Evergreen Lake
House (T=3, P=3, N=4). The run starts at 8:30am sharp. The run heads up
the road, just past the golf course, then left across the creek and up
the trail. Wind up above the golf course, across the ridge, then merge
with the Alderfer trails. From here, they usually go right, take the
next right, climb up the rocky trail (touch the sign at the top), then
continue on to the upper Alderfer lot. There are several ways down. If
you are unfamiliar with the trails, please let them know at the start
and make sure you stick with someone.
Take the Evergreen Parkway, hwy 74, exit 252 from I-70. Continue
through Bergen Park, past Elk Meadow, about 6 miles, down the hill to
the lake. At the bottom of the hill, just before the road turns left at
the lake, turn right onto Upper Bear Creek Rd. Go about 1/4 mile and
turn left into the Lake House parking lot.
The ERC runs are usually 60-90 minutes long. Occasionally, some people
will start early, or run longer, to get in more mileage. They usually
go out for coffee/breakfast afterwards. Several of us do the ERC runs,
but I don't organize them. Please forward your questions to Dave via
the link below ERC. For more info about the ERC schedules, go to:
http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Lodge/7018/index.html
Schedule:
4/10: Lower Parking Lot at Elk Meadow.
4/17: Beaver Brook Trail, Genesee.
