Join me for a long run this Sunday morning, 3/28. I plan to run for 6-
7 hours as part of my training for ultras. I'd love to have company.
There are several opportunities to join me for different parts* of
the run, or for the whole thing, for anyone else as crazy as me. I
won't be going fast. I'll be out there for a long time, and it's
training, not a race.
Meet at the Stegosaurus lot at 7:30-ish. I plan to start at 7:45am.
This is the same lot we use for the Hogback run on Thursdays. Take I-
70 to the Red Rocks exit, #259. Go south about 50 yards. Turn left
into the lot. It's across from the Matthews Winters lot.
My planned route is as follows: Start up the Hogback, then take the new trail
down to Green Mtn. Do a loop of Green (several options), then back up to the
Hogback. Go south on the Hogback, down into Red Rocks, then back up via Matthews
Winters. I'll return to my car to restock, refuel, and maybe change clothes.
Then, run under I-70 and down the road to Apex (~1.3mi). Up Apex (several
options, depending on how I feel) to Lookout Mtn Rd. Up to Boettcher Mansion,
then down Chimney Gulch to the bottom. Return back up Chimney, down Apex, then
up the road to the finish.
* There are a few different opportunities to to parts of the run with
me. You can also pace me on a mtn bike:
1) Start and run Green Mtn with me. When we get back to the Hogback,
go right and take the short way back to the start. ~2:00
2) Start with me as above. Continue with me down the Hogback and back
up Matthews Winters. ~3:00
3) Join me for the second half (sure, wait until I'l tired). Meet me
in the Stegasaurus lot around 10:30-10:45. Look for a brown Saturn.
4) Meet me at the bottom of Apex. 10:45-11:30. You can do all or part
of the Apex-Chimney loops.
Times are estimates. If I'm back and ready to go to Apex before
10:30, I'm not going to wait. Nor am I going to push if I am behind
schedule.
I'm guessing it'll take me 6-7 hours. I don't really know (and don't
really care) about the mileage. I'm gussing that it's somewhere in
the mid 30s with about 3,000'-4,000' of climbing. That's not the
point. Nor is it to see how fast I can do it. It's just about
spending that much time on my feet. I expect the first half to be
comfortable. And, if I fuel and hydrate properly, not to struggle on
the second half.
Respond if you think you might join me. Or, just show up. Feel free
to pass this on to others.
