+ Thursday evening run: South Table Mtn (T=3, P=2)**
+ Saturday's Evergreen Runners Circle run: Chief Hosa (T=1, P=2)**
+ Races, clinics and other upcoming events
+ Other weekend outings and carpool opportunities

2 more weeks until daylight savings time. You'll still need your lights
for these last few runs.

I recently sent out two surveys. One will help us pick a date for a
group outing at a Vail trail race. The other will help us improve the
group. Please take a few minutes to respond by the end of the month.

++++++++++

This Thursday's run is at Thursday evening run: South Table Mtn (T=3,
P=2)**. The main group will start at 6:30pm. A smaller group usually
meets at 5:30pm; look for Scott, Ray, Connie or Kim.

Directions: Meet at the NREL visitors' lot. Take I-70 to Denver West
Blvd. Go north to the first street. Turn left. Go 2 blocks to the NREL
lot. From 6th ave, exit at Indiana. Go north to Colfax. Turn right and
continue past the shopping center on the left. Turn left at Denver West
Marriott Blvd. Go over I-70 and follow the directions above. There are
no bathrooms or changing facilities at this site. You can stop at the
nearby Denver West Shopping Center or Marriott Hotel.

This is a fairly easy run - it's a short trip to the top of the
mountain and the top is fairly flat, although rocky in spots. However,
finding the route can be difficult. There are few landmarks and NO
trail signs. Please stop and pay attention to critical junctions on
your way out. You've been warned!

Route (red line): Head up the single track from the lot. Stay left at
the fork just after the start. About 1/4-mile later, just before the
top, make a sharp right. At the top, head north towards the 3-tower
phone line. REMEMBER THIS TURN FOR THE WAY BACK! You've only gone ~3/4
mile. At the north end of the plateau, go left. Follow the jeep trail
to the west. Stay north of the paved road (it's a CDOT test track). If
you get there by mistake, head north until you find the trail. At no
time should you cross the paved CDOT test track.

You will pass by an E-W fence line, then cross a N-S fence line. A
short distance later, stay right at the fork. Follow the trail around
the small hill until it meets a larger jeep road.* REMEMBER THIS TURN
FOR THE WAY BACK! Bear right and head west towards the power lines.
Depending on time, continue past the power lines, down the hill to the
far western edge of the plateau, then up the "Golden Stairs" to a rock
perch overlooking the town of Golden. Return the same way.

*For a longer route for the faster runners (purple line): Near the
start of the jeep road, go right. Follow the trail out to the northern
edge. Follow the trail to the west, then south, take a right back to
the west, then head down the hill to the "Golden Stairs." Return via
the main route (red line). For now, ignore the other purple line on the east
(right) side of the map.

Note: The lines drawn on the map are only approximate estimations of
the actual route.

This Saturday's Evergreen Runners Circle (ERC) run is at Chief Hosa
(T=1, P=2). The run starts at 8:30am sharp. This is an easy run, mostly
on dirt roads, with good views. Head up the road from the lodge. At the
paved road, make a sharp left at the paved road, and continue around
the chain to the flagpole at the top. Return the same way. You can add
~1/2 mi, on the way down, by going right at the Y, just past the
buffalo enclosure.

Take I-70 to the Chief Hosa exit, #253. Go south, left (if coming from
Denver) across the highway. Go left on the dirt frontage road a short
distance and park near the "Y", just below the lodge.

The ERC runs are usually 60-90 minutes long. Occasionally, some people
will start early, or run longer, to get in more mileage. They usually
go out for coffee/breakfast afterwards. I don't organize the ERC runs
(I and other DTR regulars often attend them), so please forward your
questions to Dave via the link below ERC. For more info about the ERC
schedules, go to:
http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Lodge/7018/index.html

Schedule:
4/3: .Evergreen Lake House.
4/10: Lower Parking Lot at Elk Meadow.
4/17: Beaver Brook Trail, Genesee.

Looking for company on a long weekend run? Want to carpool to a
snowshoe race, Incline Club run or other outing? Let me know and I'll
send out the word. Please send me specific information about where and
when you want people to meet, or how to contact you. Try to send me the
information a week in advance so I have time to get it into my weekly
message.
