This Thursday's run is at Ken Caryl, lower loop (T=2-3, P=2)*. The main
group will start at 6:30pm. A smaller group usually meets at 5:30pm;
look for Scott, Ray, Connie or Kim. The trails are not open to the
public. If anyone asks, we are there as guests of Derek and Jessica
Griffiths.
*T=technical difficulty; P=physical difficulty; 1-5 scale, 5 being the
hardest.
Directions: Take C-470 to the Ken Caryl exit. Go west, into the canyon.
Stay right at the "Y" and go about 1.3mi. Take the 2nd right after the
"Y" onto Mountain Laurel Dr. You should see a sign to the Manor House.
About 200 yds. up, take the next right onto Manor House Rd. and follow
the signs to the Manor House, the large white house on the hill. Please
park at the far end of the lower lot, on the northeast side of the
restaurant.
Route (see attached): Start heading west on the main, wide, dirt
trail. Go around the gate. In another 1/4 mi, take a right. Follow the
single track for about a mile to a large (50' high) rock structure. Go
right and head around a small park. Just past the park, take a 45degree
left turn up a hill by another large rock structure. Go right and
follow the rocky trail. The trail seems to disappear at one point. Look
for the cairn (rock pile) and you'll find the trail. The trail come out
at the end of a cul-de-sac. Go right and pick up the trail heading west
across the road. If you miss the turn at the small park, continue east
to North Park Rd, follow it to the trailhead near the end of the road,
then go right on the trail. Follow the trail down to a ravine, cross a
small bridge, then head up the other side to a trail junction.
Slower runners should go right at the trail junction (yellow lines). At
the next junction, go either way. The far right heads around the
hogback. The left option climbs the ridge. Go right at the top.
Intermediate and fast runners should stay left and follow the trail
(red line) between the hogbacks. Intermediate runners should go right
on the trail at the apex of the trail, and climb the ridge. Faster
runners should continue down to the "Y" at the entrance to the valley.
From the bottom, make a sharp right and start climbing the ridge. The
trail forks on the way up, then merges back together. The right is a
little shorter; the left is a bit more technical. At the top, take a
left and head down the hill. You should see the Manor House from here.
Cross the road, then head up the trail back to the start.

This Saturday's Evergreen Runners Circle (ERC) run is at Upper Bear
Creek Road, the 5 mile marker (T=1; P=2). The run starts at 8:30am
sharp. The route starts up the paved road for ~0.8mi, then goes right
onto a dirt road. About 2 miles further up, go left and follow the
signs to the elk/wildlife preserve.
Take the Evergreen Parkway, hwy 74, exit 252 from I-70. Continue
through Bergen Park, past Elk Meadow, about 6 miles, down the hill to
the lake. At the bottom of the hill, just before the road turns left at
the lake, turn right onto Upper Bear Creek Rd. Go 5 miles and meet in a
large dirt turnout at the 5 mile marker.
The ERC runs are usually 60-90 minutes long. Occasionally, some people
will start early, or run longer, to get in more mileage. They usually
go out for coffee/breakfast afterwards. I don't organize the ERC runs
(I and other DTR regulars often attend them), so please forward your
questions to Dave via the link below ERC. For more info about the ERC
schedules, go to:
