Feb 19 run: Red Rocks   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #412 of 1493 |
+ Thursday evening run: Red Rocks (T=1, P=2-3)
+ Saturday's Evergreen Runners Circle run: Beaver Brook Trail, Genesee
(T=4, P=3)
+ Trail/Snowshoe races, clinics and other upcoming events
+ Nike Sample Sale: 2/23-24
+ Female Shoe Testers Needed for Nike
+ Other weekend outings and carpool opportunities

This Thursday's run is at Red Rocks (T=1, P=2-3). We will probably
stick to the roads due to muddy trails and expected rain. The main
group will start at 6:15pm. A smaller group sometimes meets at 5:30pm.
Look for Scott, Connie or Ray at the early start.

T=technical difficulty; P=physical difficulty; 1-5 scale, 5 being the
hardest.

Directions: Meet at the Trading Post. From C470, take the Morrison
exit. Head west, through the town of Morrison. Go past the traffic
light at hwy 8. Take the next right and follow the signs to the Trading
Post.

From I-70 (from central Denver, take hwy 6 to I-70), take the Red Rocks
exit, #259. Go south, about 1 mile down the hill. Turn right into Red
Rocks and follow the signs to the Trading Post.

From hwy 93 (Golden/Boulder), go south to hwy 6, and continue south on
hwy 6. Turn right on Heritage Rd., the light at the top of the hill,
across from the "Taj Mahal" (Jefferson Cty bldg). Turn right at US 40
and follow it up the hill to I-70. Continue under I-70, and follow the
I-70 instructions above.

Route (roads): See attached map. Follow the yellow route. Starting at
the Trading Post (TP), facing up the hill towards the ampitheatre, take
an immediate left. After a short rise, this road winds down hill for
about 3/4 mi. At the road junction (B), go left and head up the road to
the next junction (L). The first time through, stay straight on the
road to the next junction with a dirt road (D1). Go left up the dirt
road to the next paved road (D2). Go left up the paved road. At the
3-way junction (3-WAY), go left and return to the Trading Post. This
loop is only about 3.5mi. There are several ways to add more.

Slower runners should repeat either the upper or lower part of the
loop. To repeat the lower half (TP-B-L-TP), go right when returning to
the TP like the start of the first loop. At junction "L" the 2nd time,
go left up the hill to the finish. For the upper loop
(TP-L-D1-D2-3WAY-TP), at TP, stay straight on the road down to "L".
Then, go left to D1, and repeat the upper part to the finish.

Intermediate runners should repeat the entire loop again
(TP-B-L-D1-D2-3WAY-TP).

Faster runners should repeat the loop, and add more by doing the red
course on either or both of the loops. From 3-WAY junction, stay right.
After about 30 yards, go right again. Take the road up to and back from
the observation point (OBS). On the return, go right and run through
the tunnel to the upper lot (UL), then back to the 3-WAY, then right
back to TP.

The dirt road from D1 to D2 may be muddy, so be prepared to improvise.

Ignore the purple route. It's on trails.

This Saturday's Evergreen Runners Circle (ERC) run is on the Beaver
Brook Trail in Genesee. The run starts at 8:30am sharp.

Meet at the park-n-ride lot, on the north side of I-70, at the Genesee
exit (#254), by the buffalo overlook.

The ERC runs are usually 60-90 minutes long. Occasionally, some people
will start early, or run longer, to get in more mileage. They usually
go out for coffee/breakfast afterwards. I don't organize these runs (I
and other DTR regulars often attend them), so please don't ask me
questions about ERC. For more info about the ERC schedules, go to:
http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Lodge/7018/index.html

Schedule:
2/28: Alderfer Three Sisters.
