+ Thursday evening run: Chimney Gulch/Lookout Mtn (T=2, P=3)
+ Saturday's Evergreen Runners Circle run: Upper Bear Creek Road, 5mi
mark (T=1, P=2)
+ Echo Lake snowshoe race 2/14 - FREE
+ Trail/Snowshoe races, clinics and other upcoming events
+ Other weekend outings and carpool opportunities

This Thursday's run is on the Chimney Gulch/Lookout Mtn (T=2, P=3). The
main group will start at 6:15pm. A smaller group sometimes meets at
5:30pm. Look for Scott McFarlane, Connie Ahrnsbrak or Ray Grundmeyer at
the early start.

Directions (see attached): Meet at the dirt turnout, at the first
hairpin turn, just above the pillars. Take hwy 6 to Golden. Turn west
at Lookout Mtn/19th ave. The turnout is about 3/4-mile up, just above
the pillars. There's a porta-potty in the small park on the left, below
the pillars.

This run has both road and trail options. The road is a great hill
workout and only has light traffic. If running the trail, be prepared
to deal with snow and/or ice.

Trail up: Run up the road about 1/2-mi, then look for the trail on the
left. Head up the trail for about 1.5-mi. Cross the road at Windy
Saddle and continue along the trail on the other side. In another
1/4-mi, make a sharp left at the next trail junction. Do not take the
hiker only Beaver Brook trail. In about another mile, there's another
trail junction. The faster runners, should take a sharp right and
continue about another 1/3-mi to the Boettcher Mansion. Intermediate
runners should stay left and continue ~1/3 mi to Lookout Mtn Park.
Slower runners may want to turn and return to Windy Saddle before this
point.

Down: From Boettcher Mansion, go left on the road, then left again at
Lookout Mtn Rd to Lookout Mtn Park. At the park, either stay on the
road, or go left into the park. Look for a single-track on the left.
This will take you back to the last trail junction you hit on the way
up. Keep staying right back to Windy Saddle. Intermediate runners, from
the park, can either turn and return on the trail, or go out to the
road and go left. From Windy Saddle to the bottom, the road is almost a
mile longer than the trail.

This Saturday's Evergreen Runners Circle (ERC) run is at the Upper Bear
Creek Road, 5mi mark. The run starts at 8:30am sharp. This is a great
winter running location. The out-and-back route starts up the paved
road for about a mile, then goes right and continues on a maintained
dirt road.

Take I-70 to Evergreen Parkway, #252. Take hwy 74 about 6mi to
Evergreen Lake. As you reach the lake, just before the road curves
left, go right onto Upper Bear Creek Rd. Take the road for 5mi to the
5mi marker and look to a large dirt turnout on the right.

The ERC runs are usually 60-90 minutes long. Occasionally, some people
will start early, or run longer, to get in more mileage. They usually
go out for coffee/breakfast afterwards. I don't organize these runs (I
and other DTR regulars often attend them), so please don't ask me
questions about ERC. For more info about the ERC schedules, go to:
http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Lodge/7018/index.html

Schedule:
2/21: Beaver Brook Trail. Start from Genesee, the buffalo overlook.
2/28: Alderfer Three Sisters.

I am putting on a FREE snowshoe race on Sunday, Feb 15. The race will
be approximately 5-6 tough miles. It is mostly off trail, in the trees,
wading through powder, over logs, under branches, with some steep ups
and downs. There will be a shorter, approximately 2 mile option
available. The race will start at 10:00am by the toll booth. I will try
to time the event, but be prepared to keep your own time, especially if
you beat me or do the shorter course. There will be no aid on the
course.

No sign up required. Just show up and have fun. The race can be done
without volunteers. However, if you'd like to help instead of racing,
let me know in advance.

Directions from Denver: There are two options. 1) Take I-70 to
Evergreen Parkway, exit 252; follow hwy 74 for ~2.5mi to Squaw Pass Rd,
hwy 103; turn right and go 18 miles to Echo Lake. 2) Continue west on
I-70 to the main Idaho Springs exit, #240; go left onto hwy 103 for 13
miles. There should be plenty of parking by the lodge (closed for the
winter).

After the race, we will head down to Idaho Springs for some food, drink
and fun.

Join me on Saturday, Feb 14, as I mark the course (tentative). Meet at
the Bergen Park park-n-ride lot at 10:00-10:15am. Look for the brown
Saturn. Or start the morning with me at the ERC run at 8:30am (see
above). To Bergen Park, take I-70 to Evergreen Parkway, exit 252;
follow hwy 74 for ~2.25 to hwy 65, the light at the bottom of a hill;
turn left, then an immediate right into the lot. We'll carpool to Echo
Lake. We'll mostly be hiking the course (on snowshoes). I'm guessing
that it will take 2:00-2:30 to hike the course. We should return to
Bergen Park around 2:00-2:30pm.

No response please. Just show up on Saturday.
