+ Wednesday morning run: Chief Hosa
+ Thursday evening run: Chimney Gulch/Lookout Mtn
+ Saturday's Evergreen Runners Circle run: Beaver Brook Trail/Genesee
+ Snowshoe, trail, and other upcoming events
+ Sunday Incline Club run
+ Other weekend outings and carpool opportunities
+ Grand Canyon Run: April 19 (tentative)

The Wednesday's morning run is at Chief Hosa (T=1, P=2) at 6:00am.
Note the time change. This is a great place to run if it's snowy/icy.

Take I-70 to the Chief Hosa exit, #253, 1mi west of Genesee. Go
south, left across the highway if coming from Denver. Go left on the
dirt frontage road a short distance and park near the Y, just below
the lodge.

This Thursday's run is at Chimney Gulch/Lookout Mtn (T=3, P=3) at
6:15pm.

Meet at the dirt turnout, at the first hairpin turn, just above the
pillars. Take hwy 6 to Golden. Turn west at Lookout Mtn/19th ave. The
turnout is about 3/4-mile up, just above the pillars. There's a porta-
potty in the small park on the left, below the pillars.

The trails are Ok in the winter. However, if you prefer, read the
paved alternative below. There's a short rocky section near the
bottom of the trail, and a couple of spots above the Beaver Brook
trail. Much of the trail above Windy Saddle is north facing and in
the trees, so there will probably be some ice even if it's warm this
week. Screw shoes could be helpful
(http://skyrunner.com/screwshoe.htm). There's a full moon this
weekend so the visibility should be pretty good.

Route: Run up the road about 1/2-mi, then look for the trail on the
left. Head up the trail for about 2 mi. Cross the road at Windy
Saddle and continue along the trail on the other side. In another 1/4-
mi, go left at the next trail junction (do not take the Beaver Brook
trail). About a mile further up, take a sharp right and continue
about another 1/3-mi to the Boettcher Mansion. Slower runners should
turn before the mansion and return along the same route. Judge your
time accordingly. The run should be about 1:15. Turn at about 40-45
minutes if you haven't made it to the top; it's a lot faster going
back downhill. The middle pack should turn back at the mansion. For a
longer route, go left on the road at the mansion. Go left again at
Lookout Mtn Rd. A bit down the road, look for a park on the left,
then look for a trail on the left. This will merge back with the
trail we took up at the last junction before the mansion. Continue
down the same way you came up.

Alternative paved route: Lookout Mtn road provides a good hill
workout if you want to stay on the pavement. However, it's
significantly longer to Windy Saddle than the trail, so judge your
turn around time accordingly. It will take you as long, or a couple
of minutes longer to run down the road than it did running up the
trail. There is some, but not a lot of traffic on the road.

The Saturday Evergreen Runners Circle (ERC) run is at Beaver Brook
Trail/Genesee at 8:30am sharp. Meet at the park-n-ride lot, on the
north side of I-70, at the Genesee exit (#254), the buffalo overlook.

The ERC runs are usually about an hour long. Sometimes a few people
will meet early or continue after the run to get in more mileage.
They usually go out for coffee/breakfast afterwards. I don't lead
these runs, so please don't ask me the questions. For more info about
the ERC schedules, go to:

Every Sunday, the Incline Club meets to run in the Pikes Peak area.
It's a large group with wide range of abilities. The runs start at
8am sharp from Soda Springs Park in Manitou Springs. The runs
typically are 2-3.5 hours. A few of us are planning to carpool down
there this Sunday. Let me know if you are interested in joining a
carpool, and what part of town you will be coming from. For more info
on these runs, including a map and detailed description of this
Sunday's route, go to www.inclineclub.com.

Clark Fox is always looking for fellow powder hounds on the weekends.
He usually goes tele-skiing, but welcomes company if you just want to
go snowshoeing or otherwise play in the snow. For info, contact him
at cfox@...

Looking for company on a weekend run, ski, snowshoe, or other outing?
Want to carpool to a snowshoe race (e.g., Beaver Creek) or future
Incline Club run? Let me know and I'll send out the word. Please send
me specific information about where and when you want people to meet,
or how to contact you. Please try to send me the information a week
in advance. Don't wait for me to plan everything!

A few of us are planning to run at the Grand Canyon this spring. Some
will do a double crossing, south rim-north-rim-south rim, 42-48 miles
depending on your route, with 11,000' of climbing. Shorter options
are available. Some of us may add a stop in Moab for some mtn biking
on the way out and/or back. This helps break up the drive, about 685
miles. It would end up being a 4 or 5 day weekend. We would probably
camp at the south rim. If you've never been there, it's a must see,
even if you don't want to run. The tentative date is the weekend of
April 19 (I know it's Easter); the following weekend is also a
possibility. Let me know if you are interested. It's not too early to
start planning.
