Smackdown for 9/23 opened with Vince McMahon welcoming us the the
Season Premiere/5th Anniversary episode. A brand new Smackdown
opening then aired.
Billy Kidman vs. Paul London
Last week's confrontation between the former tag champions was shown
as Kidman came to the ring. London looked ready to fight, while
Kidman looked depressed. The bell rang, and Kidman just walked out of
the ring and down the aisle. London yelled at Kidman, and the referee
started to count, and Kidman walked through the curtain. London was
awarded the match on a countout.
Winner: Paul London.
As soon as London was announced as the winner, Booker T came to the
ring. London looked pleased at the chance to have some competition.
Paul London vs. Booker T
Booker kicked London as the two started trash talking, and the
impromptu match was on. Booker T busted London's nose with a back
elbow in less than a minute. London rallied with a jumping knee off
the second rope, but the match was pretty much all Booker. Booker hit
a Hot Shot and placed him in a surfboard. London got out and rallied
again, hitting a spinkick and a dropsault. London hit an enzugiri for
a two count. London went for a cross bodyblock, but Booker rolled
through it, and put his feet on the ropes for the pin at the three
minute mark
Winner: Booker T.
Post-match, Booker T got on the mic and said he hoped John Cena was
watching. Booker said he was going to take Cena "to school" the same
way he did London. Booker promised to win his final match with Cena,
and was about to deliver his catchphrase, when London hit him from
behind, knocking him down. Officials separated the two, and London
was screaming "anytime" at Booker as he walked down the aisle.
An interview with Mick Foley aired, talking about his fondest
Smackdown memories. One was when The Rock's sunglasses accidentally
fell off during a promo, so Mankind picked them up, since he knew
Rock never would. Another was when he reverted back to the Cactus
Jack persona for his Royal Rumble street fight with Triple H.
Backstage, Billy Kidman had grabbed his bag, and was leaving.
Smackdown General Manager Theodore R. Long stopped him, saying he
didn't want a "quitter" on his roster. Long told Kidman he would face
Paul London at No Mercy, and if he walked out again, or didn't show
up, he would be fired.
Dawn Marie was shown starting to get dressed for the schoolgirl
match.
Josh Matthews interviewed Spike Dudley and Rey Mysterio together.
Spike said he did what he had to do (betraying Rey) to get to where
he is today. Spike said he was proud of what he did. Rey started to
rip on Spike in Spanish, and Kenzo Suzuki walked in. Suzuki told Rey
he is in America, so he should speak English. Suzuki patted Rey on
the head and asked "Do you understand?" Rey said he did, then knocked
out Suzuki with the microphone. Rey shoved Spike as he walked off.
A Smackdown Throwback was shown of The Rock berating Jonathan
Coachman and making him dance the Charleston.
Cruiserweight Champion Spike Dudley, with Bubba Ray & D-Von, vs. Rey
Mysterio
They went face to face at the bell, and Spike shoved Rey in the face.
The two traded punches, Rey did a springboard to flip over Spike,
then lifted him in a torture rack and spun him into a facebuster on
his knee. Bubba Ray ran in to interfere, but Rey ducked his
clothesline and Bubba almost hit the referee. The ref ordered Bubba
and D-Von away from the ring. Rey hit Spike with a baseball slide as
he protested from the floor. Rey went for a dive out of the ring, but
the referee stopped him, so Rey flipped over the referee and into a
senton on Spike on the floor. Back in the ring, Rey and Spike
collided head to head as Rey went to whip Spike into a corner, and
the show went to break.
Back from commercial, Rey missed a charge in the corner, and Spike
drover him shoulder first into the ringpost of the opposite corner.
Spike went to the floor and pulled Rey shoulder first into the post,
then rolled him into the ring for a two count. Spike slammed Rey and
went to the top rope, but Rey crotched him and hit a rana off the top
for a two count. Spike came back with a headbutt to the midsection
and went for a sunset flip, but Rey rolled out of it and dropkicked
Spike in the face. Rey grabbed La Magistral for a two count. Rey went
for a springboard bodypress, but Spike ducked and Rey flattened the
referee. Spike caught a leapfrog attempt and slammed Rey face first
to the mat. Spike went to the top rope for the double stomp, but Rey
caught him with two feet to the face as he came down. Rey set up for
the 619, but Rene Dupree and Kenzo Suzuki came down, with Dupree
tripping Rey and Suzuki giving him the claw/legsweep combo on the
floor. They rolled Rey back in, and Spike got the pin as the referee
woke up and counted at the ten minute mark.
Winner: Spike Dudley.
Post-match, Dupree and Suzuki went to beat on Rey some more, but Rob
Van Dam made the save, running off Dupree & Suzuki.
Clips from yesterday's Wrestlemania press conference were shown.
Stephanie McMahon did an interview, talking about the night she
slapped her mom, Linda McMahon, on Smackdown. Stephanie then talked
about being knocked out during a mixed tag match, and Kurt Angle
kissing her backstage. Stephanie said Kurt is one of the worst
kissers in the world. During her segment, she referred to Triple H as
her "husband at the time".
After a break, we saw that Theodore R. Long had told Rene Dupree &
Kenzo Suzuki that they would be defending the WWE Tag Team Title
against Rey Mysterio & Rob Van Dam at No Mercy.
Last week's incident (and poetry reading) with Heidenreich and
Michael Cole was recapped. Tazz said he liked the poem. Heidenreich
was shown in the back, and Cole jumped up from his seat, saying he
was leaving if Heidenreich was coming to the ring. However, instead
of coming out, Heidenreich entered Mr. McMahon's office, and closed
the door behind him.
A Smackdown Throwback was shown of when Brock Lesnar superplexed The
Big Show, causing the ring to collapse.
The Undertaker vs. Gangrel & Viscera. The Ministry's return last week
to attack the Undertaker was recapped as Gangrel & Viscera came to
the ring. After the Undertaker made his entrance, Orlando Jordan and
John Bradshaw Layfield came out in JBL's limo. JBL stood through the
moonroof of the limo to watch the match. Undertaker went on the
offense, downing both opponents with kicks to the face. Undertaker
hit Gangrel with shoulderblocks, then did the Old School ropewalk and
hit him with a forearm. Jordan got on the apron, distracting Taker,
and Viscera hit him from behind with an avalanche. Viscera hit a
chokeslam into a powerbomb, and Gangrel followed with a corkscrew
elbow. Viscera hit a splash, but missed a second one. Undertaker hit
Gangrel with a flying clothesline, then ran back and forth between
corners, clotheslining both men. Undertaker DDT'd Viscera, then
dropped Gangrel with Snake-Eyes and a boot to the face. Undertaker
hit Gangrel with a tombstone for the pin at the three minute mark.
Winner: The Undertaker.
Viscera attacked the Undertaker from behind as he stared at JBL.
Undertaker chokeslammed Viscera, then grabbed a chair as Viscera went
to the floor. Undertaker put the chair under the chin of Viscera, and
slammed him onto the ringsteps, driving the chair into his throat.
Undertaker got in the ring and gestured that there were "two down,
two to go" and that he wanted the belt. JBL and Jordan got in the
limo and drove off as Undertaker posed in the ring.
Backstage, Vince McMahon was face to face with Heidenreich.
Heidenreich said he and Vince were "mirror reflections" of each
other. Heidenreich said that the fans make him angry, and he wanted
to "share his anger" with McMahon ... in a poem. Heidenreich read a
poem to Vince, thanking him for "setting him free" and giving him the
chance to "purify" the world with "pain". Vince looked at
Heidenreich, bewildered, and said it was a good poem.
Torrie Wilson was shown in her schoolgirl outfit backstage.
After a break, Torrie and Dawn came to the ring for the schoolgirl
match, but General Manager Theodore R. Long came out before the match
could begin. Teddy said that because tonight is the season premiere
of Smackdown, and the fifth anniversary show, he made some changes to
the match. Teddy said a schoolgirl match needed some "old school" and
brought out The Fabulous Moolah & Mae Young, who came to the ring in
schoolgirl outfits. Teddy kissed and danced with the veterans.
Schoolgirl match: Torrie Wilson & Dawn Marie vs. Fabulous Moolah &
Mae Young
Dawn started off with Mae, and the two grabbed the rear end of
referee Jimmy Corderas as they broke on the ropes. They went into a
test of strength, and Dawn got frustrated that she couldn't get Mae
down. Torrie tagged in, and Mae kicked her low. Torrie went for a
sunset flip, but Mae sat down on Torrie's face for a two count. Mae
whipped Torrie into the corner and gave her a Bronco Buster. Torrie
tagged out to Dawn, as Moolah tagged in. Dawn trash talked and shoved
Moolah, and Moolah responded with forearms to the chest. Moolah
ripped off Dawn's top, and handed it to the referee. Dawn, in her
bra, accused the referee of helping Moolah. Mae got down on all fours
behind Dawn, and Moolah shoved Dawn over her, and the two veterans
covered Dawn for the pin at the three minute mark.
Winners: Fabulous Moolah & Mae Young.
An interview with Steve Austin aired, talking about the Smackdown
show that was taped in Iraq last year. Austin mentioned that he would
like to go back there for the troops again. Austin then talked about
the vignettes where Austin and Angle would sing songs to Vince
McMahon. Austin admitted that when the cameras were turned off, they
would all "laugh their asses off" about the segments.
Superstar Billy Graham was shown sitting in the front row.
John Cena did a rap from the roof of the building, talking about the
history of Smackdown.
Kurt Angle did an interview from the back, complaining about how he
wasn't asked to give his Smackdown memories, despite being the
biggest star in the history of the show. Angle said it was a
disgrace, then turned his wrath on Big Show, saying he would "provide
a Smackdown moment" that no one will ever forget, at the expense of
the Big Show.
An interview with Hulk Hogan aired, talking about coming out on a
July 4th edition of the show with his "Real American" theme, which he
hadn't used for years. He then talked about the match, where he
teamed with (childhood Hogan fan) Edge to win the WWF Tag Team Title.
Hogan said this was when the "torch was passed" and called Edge "the
future of our business". Hogan said Edge was proof that "the Mania
would live forever".
Kurt Angle & Luther Reigns vs. Eddie Guerrero & The Big Show
Guerrero and Angle started off the match, but before they locked up,
Big Show tagged in. Angle immediately left the ring and tagged
Luther. Luther and Show locked up, and Show shoved him to the mat.
Show lunged for Angle, who jumped off the apron. Luther hit Show from
behind, then delivered a pair of clotheslines, but couldn't knock him
down. Big Show hit a hiptoss and a headbutt, then tagged in Guerrero.
Eddie delivered punches and forearms, then chopped Luther in the
corner. Luther fought back with kicks, but Eddie slugged him into a
corner. Luther reversed a whip, but Guerrero floated over a slam
attempt and hit three consecutive vertical suplexes (stopping once to
tell Angle to kiss his rear end). Angle broke up Eddie's cover. Angle
tagged in, but Eddie took him down with a drop toe hold. They two
traded holds, and when Angle got near Big Show, he backed away,
allowing Eddie to roll him up for a two count. Show grabbed Angle
from the apron and slammed him. Eddie his a slingshot senton on Angle
for a two count. Angle battled back with punches, then hit a vertical
suplex for two. Luther tagged back in and punched Guerrero to the mat
for a two count. Eddie gave Luther a back suplex, and Angle tagged
in. Angle hit a belly to belly suplex and pulled down the straps.
Angle went for an Angle Slam, but Eddie armdragged out of it and
dropkicked Angle. Both men were down, and Eddie made the tag to Show
as Angle was tagging Luther. Show hit Luther with a boot to the face,
then tossed Angle from the ring. Big Show gave Luther a chokeslam.
Eddie called Show over, and tagged in (albeit from an illegal
corner). Eddie went to climb up on the shoulders of Big Show in the
corner (ala Jimmy Snuka-Andre The Giant) but Angle ran over and
shoved Eddie off the top rope and to the floor. Show started to chase
Angle around ringside as they went to break.
Back from break, Angle had Guerrero in a single leg crab. Guerrero
rolled out of it, as the announcers explained that Guerrero hurt his
leg on the fall before the break. Angle applied a leglace, and
switched it into a small package for a two count. Luther tagged in
and stomped Angle's leg, then applied his own leglace. Luther hit a
double underhook suplex, then Angle tagged in and applied an ankle
lock. Eddie kicked it off, but Angle grabbed the leg for a crab
again. However, Eddie reversed it into an ankle lock. Angle tagged
Luther, who came in and stomped Eddie to break the hold. Luther went
for a flapjack, but Eddie hit a dropkick. Eddie made the tag to Big
Show as Angle tagged in. Show cleaned house with clotheslines and
slams, then put Angle and Luther in the corner. Show charged and
slammed back first into both opponents in the corner. Show slammed
Angle, then tagged Guerrero. Guerrero stood on the shoulders of Show,
then jumped off into a frog splash on Angle. Mark Jindrak ran out and
broke up the cover, and tossed Guerrero to the floor.
Winners via disqualification: Eddie Guerrero & Big Show.
Show started to go after Jindrak, while on the floor, Luther gave
Guerrero a neckbreaker, slamming him facefirst on the floor. Luther
got into the ring and Show was fighting Luther and Jindrak in the
ring, while Angle loaded a tranquilizer gun on the floor. Angle shot
a dart into the back of The Big Show. Show started to stumble around
the ring, and tried to grab Angle, but the tranquilizer took affect
and Show fell to the mat, the dart still sticking out of his back.
Jindrak ran to the back, and came out with scissors and an electric
razor. All three men (Jindrak, Luther and Angle) took turns cutting
and shaving the hair of Show. They had shaved off most of his hair
and posed with him for the ringside photographers as the show ended,
with Michael Cole saying "Kurt Angle is raping Big Show of his
dignity" and that this is what Angle must have meant by creating
a "Smackdown moment".
