Re: Dallas Cowboys, America's Team Witten agrees to seven-year, $29 million deal with Cowboys

Definitly good news.  Novacek was a big part of our offensive philosophy in the early to mid 90's.  I would also like to offer another thought along with yours, that there were really two players that retired pretty close to each other that we just fixed in the last couple of years.  One was Novacek and the other was Charles Haley.  We have not had the same pass rush since Haley left.  We just found his replacement in Ware.  Both of those players retired in 96 and we really havn't been the same since.

That is just what I've been hoping for.  I know there are many reasons for it, but myself, I trace the decline of the 90's Cowboys back to the loss of Novacek.  Witten is a playmaker - not the "Playmaker" but I think he will light it up this year.  Just my 2 cents.

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Dallas tight end and two-time Pro Bowler Jason Witten agreed to a seven year, $29 million contract with the Cowboys on Saturday.
The deal includes a $6 million signing bonus, a guaranteed $6 million option bonus next March on top of a $500,000 base salary this season, team officials said.
Witten, 24, caught 87 passes for 980 yards in 2004. Last year, he had 66 catches for 757 yards.
Witten was entering the final season of the original four-year contract he signed in 2003.
Players are due in Oxnard, Calif., on Thursday for the start of training camp.
