By RB8' I mean RB8, it's an actual model available by Rollerblade.  I actually have the Speed machine's myself, that is a different skate. Try doing a net search of RB8, you should find an orange boot, with 4 x 90.  One of the other Nor -Cal skaters uses a 4 x90/ 4-100 setup for downhill. I have not tried my speed machine as a downhill skate yet, but it's feasible.

I would suggest going on Ebay and finding a hard boot. Their are several rollerbalde e4.x series is a good one to start with. Some people also like Rocces and Technica. These are all legacy boots I am suggesting, not the new flexible style.  Although the Rollerblade "RB8" which is a current model, should be adequate for downhill.  The key I think on any boot you choose is to get a hard plastic boot, not a soft boot.

So on ebay you can find them new or only slightly used even though they were a 90's model for 25-50 bucks. Also you can find frames on ebay as well at great prices as people upgrade.  I would suggest as a start look for a 5 x 84 frame, some people have made 4 x 100/90's as well, but as a minimum I would look for a 5 x 84 frame.

You will need to figure out the mounting hardware since the rec boots don't usually directly mount to a speed frame. Mount the frame center on the boot and you should be set!

We have a small group that gets together in LA on Sundays if you feel up for the
trip.  Usually we meet up around 2-3pm and skate until sundown.  We've got a few
spots in Malibu (Latigo, Piuma, Mulholland, Saddle Peak) and Little Tujunga
Canyon, plus GMR/Baldy.  I know the section of hwy 33 near Ojai, but haven't
skated it yet.

Thanks, I'll check on google. At this point I am looking. My gear is not set yet, no leathers, proper downhill skates etc but I am interested. I skate freestyle in San Diego's Mission Bay Sundays. No hills I know of but I will look. I think I saw couple of your groups names at IGSA San Dimas. I get the impression your runs are more open and fun skates though which I like. I guess there are both.

It is a stretch of Hwy 33 North of the town of Ojai.  There is a campground near the bottom of the hill called Wheelers Gorge.  The run starts about 20 miles above the campground.  If I could get a group of skaters to go to this hill for a weekend I would go out there.  It could possibly be a place NorCal and SoCal downhillers could meet at?

Hey Karl,

This spot is pretty far from San Diego but it is a fine quality downhill that is never super steep and goes for almost 20 miles with lots of hairpins.  We only did one run and we did not even approach proper speeds due to logistical problems. 

It is a stretch of Hwy 33 North of the town of Ojai.  There is a campground near the bottom of the hill called Wheelers Gorge.  The run starts about 20 miles above the campground.  If I could get a group of skaters to go to this hill for a weekend I would go out there.  It could possibly be a place NorCal and SoCal downhillers could meet at?

I might skate tonight if skaters can agree that they will skate by 6:00PM.  Not start to skate at 6:00 but agree to skate later by 6:00PM

Yes, Well it is the only time I have eaten crepes on skates but I did fall and I was skating backwards and I was eating the crepe.  It was very tasty.
