USB. But it doesn't use any standard interface. It came with a windos
TWAIN driver, and someone used a port scanner to figure out how to get it
supported in gphoto. But apparently the color response is not calibrated
well in either driver, although it's better in the one that came with it.
If I were motivated, I could probably do something about the calibration
in gphoto.
It's a KBGear JamCam 2.0. Was made as a toy for kids. Very rugged
construction.

Does it have a USB connection or a memory stick/card.

Yeah that camera always has screwy color. I actually tweaked that shot a
bit, the original was even greener. I have 2 drivers for that camera, one
gives washed-out color, with the other it's oversaturated and greenish.
What can ya expect for $40?

Hey I like that picture which you must have taken between your legs
looking backwards of mark. It's almost in some kind of strange green
light that makes it look pretty cool. That campsite shot is good to
for historical purposes. Get one of the DSK8 moderators to add it to
the photo album.

Maybe you can try to contact them and make a

could send them the message, to plant the seed, you

Race organizer, teamate, and friend, Rusty Riley, was airlifted back
to Tulsa, Ok after impacting a tree at speed on the Talimena Drive Sunday
afternoon. His injuries are a broken rib, partially collapsed lung, some
internal bleeding, bruised kidney, and bruised liver. He is currently
doing well and they expect him to go home in about 5 days. No word yet on
how long he will be off of his board. Knowing Rusty it won't be long... as
the EMT's were putting him on the backboard, we were trying to determine
how to mount trucks to it and also take advantage of the excellent body
position provided by the straps and cervical collar. I think it would be
legal in the new class. Maybe we could make a bedpan fairing?
He is currently at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK. If anyone would
like to contact him, I'm sure he'd love to hear from you. I believe he
also has his phone with him for those of you who have his cell number. If
anyone needs more info you can e-mail me at my address above.

Thank you for keeping up with the group. I just got some pics back from the SF gravity festival and there are some good ones. I wont overdo it here since the photo section is so small in these groups, but when I get a chance I'll upload some pics......
Most of the people currently on this list are near San Francisco, CA, with
a couple in LA and Australia. There are regular down (and up!) hill
skates on Monday nights in SF and LA. We sporadically do more serious
downhill skating (shuttle/chase cars, full leathers) on the weekends in
both SF and LA areas. If you think you might want to get in on some of
that, I highly recommend doing the SF or LA Friday night skate, or the
Palo Alto Wednesday night skate first.

NorCal (Donald, Mark, Warren) was it, as far as inlines went. 7 bikes w/
fairing, 5 w/o. 12 each, standup and buttboard. 28 luges.
The road looked even worse than I remembered. When we arrived, we took a
drive down the course before pitching camp. Someone had taken white
spraypaint and marked all of the spots that were worse than normal (normal
meaning cracks every 2 feet or so and caterpillar tracks sank down into
the asphalt in the straights) and there were a LOT of them. In the
headlights they all looked like terrible deep potholes. But the 30-50
miles of city skating per week that we do payed off, and we didn't find
the pavement condition to be an issue. Except in the second hairpin.
Oh, yeah, the first hairpin, too, sometimes.
As others have mentioned, we did find that the course could be negotiated
without braking. Though I must admit that I haven't done the second
hairpin without -- but my strategy involved NOT being first coming out of
that turn.
When it came to race time, technology and strategy carried the day. The
combination of sixguns and a pointy white hat gave me the coasting speed
advantage to confidently execute a "train & slingshot" strategy, hanging
back (and avoiding the crowds) until the exit from the second hairpin,
pushing someone else until just before the finish, then dropping back and
using the draft to pass them at the final moment. At least, that was how
it was supposed to happen. In one heat, just as I dropped back, Donald
started running. I don't think he went any faster, but the swinging arms
and legs seemed to break up the airflow enough to make him a lot less
draftable. In another, I ended up in front of Mark sooner than I'd hoped
due to a tight spot in a curve, and only then realized that Donald was
right behind us. All 3 crossed the line within a couple of feet of each
other.
Other events of note were Donald and Mark's collision exiting the first
hairpin, sending Donald crashing into the dirt wall (no serious injuries),
and Mark's "suicide ploy" in the same turn, taking an inside line in a
turn that just doesn't have room, at our current skill level, for more
than 1 abreast, giving Donald and I the choice of braking or crashing. It
worked. We chose braking over breaking.
My family came and took a few pictures and a some video. Don't have the
video yet.

I thought those were the little balls of snow that are running ahead
of the avalanche. Thats my quest at least. They are not parallel,
too light to be skiis, and of different depths ... indicating
possibly different sized snow balls. Anyhop ... At this point in the
photo its impposible to tell if the skiier is in front of an actual
life threatening avo or just one of those snow cascades.

Tom,
Theresa told me to wear what I usually wear for
dh. I told her that I have a full face helmet and she
said for me to bring it along with my other helmet
since they may need to see my face on the way down the
hill. I brought all my stuff and a nice shirt.
Should be fun no matter what happens and the
intersection they told me to go to is Mansell and John
F. Shelly. They told me that the road will not be
closed off but that they had heard (probably from D)
that the road is pretty safe. So I assume they are
talking about John F. Shelly. Who knows for sure but
I'll find out today. I hope it is the race course,
but Mansell would be fun, just need a spotter. I'll
let you know and I hope to see you there! I am going
to be the late appointment today arriving at 1:30pm or
a bit earlier. Good luck man!

my bones with Mt Dew!!! John, I bet you make the cut.
You might be an ideal candidate. I talked to
Theresa. It sounds like she only got a response from
about 10 guys. When I told her my age she said come
on down anyways. I am 39 by the way. I don't suppose
you asked her if they had chosen any hills and if
pads, leathers and/or helmets will be allowed?
Hmmm, $500 would buy a set of leathers just maybe! I
might see you there.

Beau Bonneau Casting in San Francisco is looking for extreme athletes
for a SAG Mountain Dew commercial. We are looking for extreme street
lugers and extreme in-line skaters 16-34 years old, that can go down
San Francisco hills with extreme speed. If you know of anyone who
fits this type please have them call 415.777.1114 a.s.a.p. to set up
an audition time. Auditions will be held this Friday 2/21.
Yeah, my assumption was that the deep track on the right was made by the
skier. But there's also a very ligt pair of tracks that runs from just
left of the point of the avalanche to just right of the skier.

It looks like the skiier came in from the right side of the picture,
leaving a deep track. I'm very curious about the light pair of tracks
running stright down the fall line.

Here is a list and a brief description of some downhill runs in the San
Francisco Bay Area courtesy of Warren.
King's Mtn Rd:
4.25 miles of hairpin turns and crappy pavement. 7% grade. Braking
required often. Definitely the most technically challenging road I've
skated. Seriously scary on my first run, but you do kind of get used to
it after a while. Often wet in the mornings, but usually only in the top
parts.
OSC:
3.25 miles, 6% grade. Perfect, buttery-smooth pavement on the top 2
miles, okay in the bottom part. Just barely doable w/o braking. Often
wet all over from fog. Warren says: I think this run is the most fun of all
the bay
area courses that I've done.
Tunnel:
3.05 miles. 5% grade. Many turns. Mostly decent pavement, a few places
where it's seamy or sometimes gravelly from construction (houses, not
roads). One big wet spot (which I brake for) 3/4 of the way down, one
other turn that requires braking. Probably needs braking more often if
you stay in your lane - usually not necessary for the lefts 'cause you
can see way ahead.
Mt Tam:
2 runs, around 1.5 miles each, you may or may not be able to coast past
the little rise between. 6-7% grade? Pavement is in good shape, but
inherently rough. Several turns in the bottom that I never got through
(in 5 runs) without at least 1 of: braking, sliding, or leaving my lane.
Rumored by standups to be too busy to ride on weekends, which sounds
plausible even given what wimps those guys tend to be regarding traffic.
It really wasn't bad on the Friday afternoon before a long weekend.
Pescadero:
2 runs, down opposite sides of the hill. 2.25mi@7% down the West side,
1.75mi@8% on the East. A couple of spots where I've had to brake (maybe
not necessary w/ more practice) on each side. Pavement perfect except for
1 funny seam in the middle of the tightest hairpin. Dots. Assloads of
dots. 2.5 feet apart. 2 rows of 'em. Basically, yer stayin in yer own
lane. Likely to be even wetter than OSC. Dots in the road.
There's a bunch of runs North of Santa Cruz (like Empire Grade) that might
be wet a lot of the time.
