A Big Joke   Message List

Hello everyone,

I've been off the list so long (too much work getting set up at graduate school) that I feel bad starting off with a negative post.  I just have to say that I think it's a big joke to say that the Yankees are division champions in the east.  Maybe it doesn't matter, because both teams are in the playoffs and, once you're in, you have to beat everyone anyway. However, the Yankees get to tick this off as another in a great string of Division domination, but, when you think about it, what is the reason for their "championship" in spite of their having the same record as the Red Sox?   It's the fact that they won their season series.  Think about it, though.  They won the season serious against the Sox and both teams finished with the same record.  Doesn't that mean the Yankees just did worse against everyone else?

As a Yankee fan to tell you the truth I didn't understand it either. I figured the Yankees would lose today and was right, they lost big time. To me, they...

Didn't this happen a few years ago with the Cards/Stros and the next year they both hung a flag in their stadium? While I love good yankee bashing I disagree...

I am actually surprised that they defer to head to head match-ups. In this corporate world and an even more corporate running of MLB, one would think the...

It's part of the collective bargaining agreement. If both teams make the playoffs, there is no tie-breaker game to establish seeding. However, if the Red Sox...

I thought Cleveland also had to win on Sunday to force the playoff game. Cleveland was swept by the White Sox. I knew New York wasn't going to win on Sunday,...

Once Cleveland lost on Saturday, there couldn't be a three way tie anymore; the Boston New York winner on Saturday would finish ahead of them. Since Boston won...

I'm not against their not playing a game. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter who plays whom. You should be able to beat everyone if you're going to...

By the ground rules, the Yankees are division champs. Any tie for first place has to be broken, whether it be by another game or by head to head record. That's...

Yeah, I don't understand the discussion over this. Ties have been, at least for quite a while, decided via the best head-to-head record...this is not a new...
